Hey guys i used this company to install insulation in my house yesterday and they gave me $25 coles gift card. They did a good job too. Also beat a quote that i showed them from another company. No complaints.

They mentioned they are running a promotion on their site. Free $25 gift card for yourself if you get insulated with them and $15 for referring other. ie $15 per person.

  • Also beat a quote that i showed them from another company

I guess if the government is paying the price doesnt matter too much.

However you still need to be careful, i have a friend living in a unit who got a quote from a particular company, they quoted $800 for the install and $800 for the insulation (conveniently the maximum rebate). Other quotes were more than 50% cheaper!

    • yes anthony you have to be really carefully with companies as such overcharging etc. I got a quote for 1900 from another company and these guys beat mine to 1600 so i just made it into the rebate. I'd say their service was great and the stuff they used was good too.

  • Thanks for sharing the deal, but be careful with your mention of referrals… pretty sure that breaks a few rules here.

Can I ask, did they specify what type of insulation they used? I'm looking to get my place insulated as well and my research is pointing me towards loosefill rockwool and RFL under the roof tiles.

  • Watch out for those small insulation company that use doggy insulation material. There was a guy knocking my door and give me a quote of $1600 (means it's free) for insulation. He say the material is one of the best in the market, however it just another basic R3 material. Obviously these guys are getting a big profit.

  • +1

I'm looking at getting insulation but want to use an environmental, non-toxic product. Has anyone had any experience with Tontine? Any other suggestions that will fit the rebate budget?

  • i am also interested in getting insulation put in (Pennant Hills, NSW).

What is the best quality stuff to get??

    • Well Google is your friend, but from my brief research, it really depends on your place.

The most common stuff used are the 'batts', pre made and cut to fit in between your ceiling joists. Relies on a snug fit to prevent heat from moving through (so dependent on the skill of the tradesperson). If your place has a pretty regular roof then this will be fine and is also pretty good if you've got downlights and/or ducted aircon.

For my place, it's about 30 years old with some unusual areas, so I'm leaning towards loosefill which is similar material to the batts, but funnily enough, is loose. Fills the gaps very well, but is more of a hassle with ducted air con/downlights and has a tendency to settle over time (which can be overcome by simply putting more down initially or topping it up after 6-12 months). Also if you tend to have air movement in your roof, loosefill can be blown around.

There's a variety of materials with different insulating properties, I'm leaning towards rockwool as it seems to have better insulating properties compared to other materials at the same thickness. I believe it is also comparitively heavier. And also more expensive of course.

If your roof doesn't have foil sarking beneath the tiles, then adding that will also help keep the heat out.

There's a map on the government site that advises what R-value the material needs to be, for Sydney area it's mostly R3.5, but I don't think it hurts to go for a higher R-value.

If anyone has had actual experience, would love to hear from them!

  • hi guys i has insulation installed with these guys. They installed glasswool batts in my roof. Like i said their product was much better then what my folks got installed in their house. Sorry about the referral think. I have removed it now.

  • Rack if I go with these guys who should I mention referred me?

  • you could use my referral code "rack" it you want. I removed it thinking it would cause problems. You can also refer other by emailing them and asking them for a referral code

    • Your referral code was not apart of the link, i think that is the main issue as if it was people may have booked insulation without knowing you were acting as a refer.

I dont think there is an issue mentioning your referral word in the description provided that you mention any benefit you receive and that using the referal code and that the code is not mandatory.
This means that people can willingly use the code if they wish understanding what you get out of it.
