20 x K-Rain RPS75i Pop-up Sprinklers approx AU$240 shipped from the US - Save 66% vs local equiv

90

Bought the above box of these 2 weeks ago: http://www.krain.com/professional-rotor-sprinklers/rps75i-ro… They arrived today so I made up a quick test rig to see if the US NPT threads would mesh properly with our BSP (British) fittings purchased from local hardware & plumbing stores… and it seems they do! See a thread I started about it here for more info: http://www.renovateforum.com/f82/yay-usa-pop-up-sprinklers-n…

These are rated as 'Light Commercial' units and equivalents sell in local stores here in Oz for $30-$40 each! These ones work out to only $12 each so I thought it was too good not to share the love and post them up here :)

I'll be keeping my eye out for you Broden!

  • One word - CONCRETE

    • +1

      one word. Heat

      • A few more words mix limestone in the concrete no heat issue. But yeah you dont want all concrete if you love your green.

    • Doesn't stop people watering their concrete…

      • I used to laugh at people who did that but now I am older and have exposed aggregate concrete I do enjoy getting the hose onto it.

  • Can you set these up in your garage to make a car wash ???

Don't be silly JV, a car can't wash anything! It has no arms or hands :)

      • A morning laugh much required.

you can expect leaks around the thread when using BSPT with NPT - different thread pitches and forms means they don't self-seal

though for a sprinkler, I guess that just means the area around the head gets watered too :D

Thanks for the info HeXa. This is basically what I concluded from the small pieces of info I found on the internet before deciding to purchased them. I thought the worst case scenario would be that I'd get thread leakage resulting in a few drops appearing out the bottom of the sprinkler head but as it'll obviously be underground then yeah it's not so bad. Different of course using metal threads and/or much more critical purposes but for a sprinkler I was fine with that.

In saying that though, I just tested it again this morning and still can't get it to leak anywhere even without thread tape so I'm pretty pleased with those results. I may still use a bit of tape though, just for the hell of it ;)

      • yeah - even with all NPT fittings, you are still meant to use thread sealant. BSPP connectors have a dedicated seal to avoid that.

        • Really? I'm no plumber but took heed of the warning 'USE NO PIPE DOPE' printed around the sprinkler inlet. Isn't 'pipe dope' sealant?

@SteveAndBelle: I'm pretty sure use no pipe dope might mean - don't have any billys before you try and put this together.

@cornbeef: Ha! I'm amazed it took over two hours for someone to make a comment like that :p Nice one :)

@SteveAndBelle: means don't use the liquid stuff that isn't compatible with plastic the sprinkler is made from (ABS?)

plumbers (teflon) tape or plastic friendly liquid sealant is still ok

Some time back I bought a qty of Toro sprinler nozzles & bodies from sprinklernut in USA.
Substantially cheaper than here & really quick courier delivery.
