Still haven't opened my Reciprocating saw I purchased during the last deal.

  • Which one of these can be used to cut wood logs. I bought fire pit and Bunnings wood blocks and need a tool to cut those. Bought a trojan hatchet as well but no luck

    • +1

      Chainsaw?

    • +2

Sounds like you want to split them not cut them if you bought a hatchet and Bunnings wood? You want a kindling splitter in that case and use the back of the hatchet as a hammer. Bunnings/Scandia sold them for a year or two and I use mine all the time it's great, but I think you need to source online now

      • Spot on!!!

        • +2

Thought so. I got one of these a couple of years back in store, I think it was around $20-$30ish. I bolted it down to a stump and keep it near the outdoor fire, they're actually really good. Recommended.

          • +2

@AngryAlfred: This and a robot lawn mower are the two things I can never buy. I don’t want to know how I’m going to die.

      • The OG Kindling Cracker…or a cheaper knock off.

    • +1

This is on sale too -
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-brushless-pruning-…

Op, you may want to add this to your list

      • +3

        Down from?

        • +3

          $129.
I bought one last month. Works well. Needs 4AH to run well and make sure you lube the chain regularly.

          • @valkeris: Ta mate

          • @valkeris: Have you used anything similar to compare against? Was looking at this one for camping, nothing too big to cut. Last time took my pruning saw (older version of this I picked up for $10) was ok but bit slow and wouldn't take long for it to require a cooldown.

Have ordered this kit for under $43, supposedly brushless motor, built in chain oiler and 2 batteries. These hit my radar after missing out on one for $15, hoping it's not too terrible but hasn't shipped yet and still have the Ozito one in the back of my mind…

            • +2

@bamzero: Also used my neighbours Makita version. Actually got bogged more then this PXC version. With a 2.5ah it does bog down on thicker branches.

I have used this brushless ozito one for about 6 hours now including on gum tree branches, pine, jarrah and other green woods. Up to about 20cm thick no issue at all (with the 4ah attached)

      • The Aldi one is $49 - not sure if Bunnings will match it

        • +1

Not matching as the bunnings one is brushness, they did drop the price $30 though.

      • Can anyone comment on how well this works in terms of how robust it feels. Is the chain that it comes with ok and is it a standard size to be able to replace with a better brand?

        • +1

Can't comment on the Aldi one as not used it.
As per above the Ozito one works well. Very solid in hand and with a 4AH chews through branches very well. Use it as intended and will 100% do the job.

One thing to note is it does not self lubricate like bigger saws, you need to stop and put some oil on the chain every now and again otherwise chain will wear out quickly. Comes with a little applicator bottle I keep in my pocket when using it. Just squirt it on the chain every 10 mins.

      • I picked up one of these last night. I'd noticed my pxc chainsaw had started leaking oil, purchased in 2021 for $129, so just exchanged it. Added the $20 2.5A with fast charger. I hadn't used the chainsaw much, and this brushless one will do and portable for camping too.

    • The Reciprocating Saw with a Diablo 12" Fleam Ground Reciprocating Saw Blade - For Pruning

  • +1

How long would this generally be on sale for at Bunnings?

    • +4

Typically about a week after the Aldi special buys date, so probably May 31.

      • +1

Unless they get sold out prior :P

  • +3

I have the Reciprocating saw. I use it for everything lol
I used it for edging my grass (old buffalo grass that was 50cm grown over the driveway). I used it to chop branches off trees. I use it for actual carpenter stuff as well.

    • +11

Edging your lawns with a reciprocating saw is peak ozbargain, I'd do my lower back in 5 minutes. Try buy a Ryobi 18v edger from marketplace if you have a battery/charger already.

      • I edged my lawn with a 3.6v Bosch ‘grass shear’ once… wouldn’t do it again - and 100% would also recommend at least the 18v edger at minimum

        • +3

I don't usually last long enough when I'm edging to justify the 18v…

      • The grass was just to established.
Cutting it off and rolling it up was the easiest solution.
        I use a edger now it’s been done :)

    • I tried it with branches and twigs I had to hold them steady. I am really impressed you can edge grass with a recip saw. Are they frozen solid in ice?

  • got one last time around and have used it to cut big thick roots and branches, goes very well

  • +1

    Any good deals on battery

  • Blades any good that come with it?

    • +2

      General consensus is no

    • Mine broke on the 3rd branch I was chopping… Had to resort to the handsaw in defeat and embarrassment

    • +4

Diablo pruning blades + Lenox general purpose blade pack is what you want - the Lenox one comes with a great blade case that the pruning blades can go into instead of floating around

    • I had the same question. Last time this deal came up, ppl recommended Diablo blades

    • Diablo is good. When it bent, i replaced with bosch 2 pack for like $12 from amazon and it is incredible value compared to diablo.

    • They are easy to bend.

    • +1

I got these from this deal.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876046
      So far, so good.

  • Thinking to buy this to cut bamboo from my backyard neighbour, bamboo is so annoying, is there a way to complain?

    • Yes there is.

      • To council?

        • +4

Install a loudspeaker in the back yard and let loose.

    • +18

is there a way to complain?

      You just did.

    • Think you'd be better off with a hedge trimmer if it's the thin and flexible type of growth.

    • Tie a bamboo rat or get a panda next to the backyard.

  • +1

    Thanks OP! Just purchased one.
What are your thoughts on blades that go well with this saw to cut <10cm thick tree branches??

    • +1

I wouldn't bother, if I were you. I bought one last time around for some DIY / maintenance jobs… I had also read online that people use them to cut / prune. I tried cutting a few thick branches with the right blade… Too much work, far easier to use a chainsaw instead.

    • +2

      10cm is pretty thick.
I use Diablo blades for pruning around 5cm thick and it makes light work of that stuff

    • I used dewalt ones off Amazon but went through a few blades

    • +10

Just going to copy paste my reply to someone in the other post and add that I've had no trouble cutting 20cm think bottle brush limbs with the 9 and 12" blades.

First up, they're all a standard fitting so go for the best value blade for the purpose.
For pruning, I've used both Kango and Diablo 9" pruning blades and 12" Kango. Both are great, 9" is better for tighter areas.
      Diablo 9” is also available in a 5 pack for $33.68: https://www.bunnings.com.au/diablo-9-fleam-ground-reciprocat…
Kango 9" 2 pack linked is also available in a 5 pack for $33.90: https://www.bunnings.com.au/kango-9-5tpi-pruning-reciprocati…
This Kango pack with wood, metal and general demolition is also good if you have the need. https://www.bunnings.com.au/kango-5-piece-demolition-recip-s…

Carbide tipped blades (meant to last 50x longer) are also available and I rate Diablo's wood blades that I bought on Amazon 3 for ~$30. But the carbide pruning blade only cuts one direction and gets caught up on branches, not worth the extra cost and thankfully the one I got was only a $5 clearance item.

Happy to answer any questions, I've cut a lot with these saws.

      • What a legend awesome!
I'll be cutting tree branches anywhere from 5-10cm - Diablo vs Kanga: what's the best blade for this operation out of the lot you mentioned above mate?

        • +7

Go for a 9" pruning blade from either brand that's best value for you (probably the Kango 2 pack to start, unless you have A LOT to cut, then go for the Diablo 5 pack). My perception was that Kango blades lasted longer but Diablo cut better. It's negligible and likely just perception as I might've been cutting more (lots of, softer, golden cane palms) more frequently than other harder wood with the Diablo blades. Save your worn out blades for cutting roots in the ground, rocks will destroy them so that's why we use the old blades.

          • +2

@ohgee: That's fantastic advice thanks again mate 👍🏻

  • Was $44 last year

    • brushless??

the non brushlesss one is like $68 right now

      • Yep $44.

      • I bought the non brushless one a month ago for $69. What excuse could I use to take it back and buy this brushless one?

        • +1

It's stopping intermittently (the best word to use for "no I can't replicate the issue right now") when you put it under moderate load within expected function.

  • This angle grinder or corded one for concrete?

    • +1

one cut of 20cm long, and 1cm deep; or full depth of concrete across whole backyard of a qtr acre block been paved the old "italian style"??

    • +1

Need way more detail to be able to answer this question.

Depending on the size of job, work in this order maybe? Cordless grinder < Corded grinder < Rotary hammer drill (not a regular hammer drill) < Petrol powered concrete saw < jackhammer < excavator < explosives (probably getting carried away here).

      • +1

Cutting through cracked concrete to seal and sand to level. Lots of area to cover.

        • +4

Cordless - Might need to recharge and/or buy extra batteries
Corded - Keep going as long as you want, or until the tool (or you) overheat.

I've used one of these in the past, it strips material quite quickly. But there might be a better tool out there for a smoother finish (not my area of expertise). Either way, there will be DUST everywhere! PPE please.

  • Thanks OP. I was still using an old brushed one from 6+ years ago. The motor has recently been smelling and smoking up a bit during some palm tree culling so this couldn't be more perfect timing! I went and bought one tonight before they closed at 9pm. :)

    • Probably good to take the advice below from

@knasty "Just watch the heat if you use it for prolonged periods….give it a chance to cool"

      • Nah, I aint got time for that haha. My brushed one still works so I have that as a backup now and with the 5 year warranty I'll thrash it hoping it dies in the 5 years so I can get a fresh new one under warranty :)

  • +1

Got mine for $44 last deal. Love mine! Used it heaps.

  • Use mine all the time. Fantastic for the price. Just watch the heat if you use it for prolonged periods….give it a chance to cool

  • Wished they match the 8.0ah battery too.

  • +2

Just set up a Price Hipster alert today but still got the news from OzB first lol

  • Where can you get blades for the multitool, i bought on last deal, then got carbide blades from aliexpress but they just fall off, ie cant secure to the tool firmly.

I thought blades were generic but i guess not?

    • +2

See the tiny little ring at the front and centre of the product page? That's a retaining ring, put the other blade on then put that ring over it, it'll keep the blades on - blades aren't completely generic but 90% of them will work with each other. Blades that have the semi circle shape will need the retainer

      • Thanks, yes they the semi circle ones, will check box for the retainer.

        • You can also get the right ones from ali that don't need the retainer. They don't have the open back. I have a set from NEWONE that works well.

  • reciprocating saw is one of my best tools. blade sucks tho but replacement is easy to purchase

is the angle grinder worth the purchase?

    • I got the non-brushless one with a starter pack and its not great, upgraded to the brushless one last time its was on sale and its like chalk and cheese in comparison. The brushless on all the ozito gear is worth the amount you pay. Ive been renovating for a few years now and the brushless angle grinder has come in so handy

      • awesome, sold me at brushless. made my purchase this morning :D

      • What all have you used the angle grinder for? I just bought a house and, while it doesn't need renovated, it does need maintenance and some stuff done on the outside/yard/granny flat etc.

        • The façade of my old house has an ugly cement texture all over the exterior of the wall. I dont know what the previous owners was thinking. Im planning to grind them all off so it can be rendered properly

  • Bought the two $50 ones. Trying to justify buying the angle grinder

    • It's brushless, get it.
      I did.

  • +15

Sucks that Bunnings only drops prices when absolutely forced to, and then otherwise just bullies other hardware stores out of their turf.

  • Chainsaw is showing up as $199 for me, do we have to wait until ALDI goes on sale for the price drop?

    • +2

Bunnings hasn't matched the chainsaw yet, but most likely will in the next few days (they did match last year).
