Didn't they just cut it from 3gb to 2gb only a few months ago?

    • +1

Yea, 3GB was great, but 2.5GB is still a very good deal for Telstra NextG

Edit: Boost now offers 2.5GB of data standard and the limited time offer of 500MB extra brings that to 3GB

      • +3

I love how they snuck the drop to 2gb in without telling anyone, and then announce the increase to 2.5gb as if they're super awesome and generous.

    • +2

Why don't I see any hint of PRICES here?

      • +1

And… what's their billing chunk, for data?

Hint: Ideally, it would be 1 KB.)

  • +6

I'm really affected by this affective plan

  • +1

Hey op if you didnt know for a limited time if you recharge online for boost mobile you will get a bonus 500mb data so you will get 3gb data all up insted of 2.5gb
It was posted on boost facebook page.
Feel free to update this deal.http://boost.com.au/boost-sim-500mb-online-bonus.aspx

    • +1

Really, wow, that is awesome, good on ya Boost

      • +1

Yeah, thanks for cutting back data allowances over time so you get 1/2 what you used to get a year or two ago and then adding much less to the data allowance now.

You guys really are the best!

        • +1

What? Boost was originally 3GB data. Then they cut it to 2GB. That is a 1/3 reduction, not half.
Now it is back up to 2.5GB, and 3GB with the online promo. How is that less?

If you want to talk data reductions, have a look at ALDI mobile.

        • @Thundaja: I don't know how people can complain about data reductions. You're not signing a contract with the company, it's prepaid… They can change and you can change whenever you like. If you're not happy anymore, move your service! Too easy.

    • HOW LONG WILL I GET THE ADDITIONAL 500MB? OR IS IT FOREVER?
No, the 500MB bonus is a limited time offer and applies to all recharges made online between 3rd November and 26th January 2015.

After that (unless they extend or start a new promo), you go back to 2.5GB.

Also, you must only recharge online directly with them. You will not get the bonus if you buy recharge vouchers in any of the stores that sell them.

  • Is this 3G or 4g? Is it 1mb minimum each session?

    • +3

Telstra 3g and in 1mb increments

      • +1

Typical Telstra. 1 MB billing chunk makes this a Dim Deal, worthy of Begging!

        • +1

Most MVNO's charge in 1MB increments sadly.
$40 for Unlimited Calls, 2.5GB data and 1MB billing might not be that great compared to other MVNO's. But $40 for all of that on the proper Telstra 3G network is pretty good when you consider how pricey Telstra is normally.

Besides, 1MB isn't really that bad. It only rounds off when your phone closes an internet session, correct?

    • +1

If you need 4G and don't mind having only 2.2Gb… you can get the $40 Freedom recharge from Telstra and buy the $39 Browser pack for an extra 1Gb totalling 2.2Gb with roughly a max of 510 mins…

And with their double data at the moment you would get 3.4Gb til April next year…

Should probably mention that to "buy" the browswer pack using the $40 credits you get…

      • +1

Why are people begging this comment, this is a genius idea

      • Can anyone confirm this deal?

      • +4

Unfortunately this does not work - the Freedom plans are not compatible with the Browse Plus pack. It was compatible with the previous iteration (Encore) - Telstra must've realised that people were happy with the value and adjusted their plans accordingly >:@

It works on the other prepaid plans, but you don't get as much base data with any of those.

Source: http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/offe… (see fine print under Browse Plus)

        • Damn

        • Aw damn, didn't see that… my bad

      • Or … if you need 4G and can live with the Optus variety of it (which means worse netowrk performance than Telstra in some areas) you could look to Spintel where you can start off at $18 month and add service allowances as you need it up until a maximum of $35 …

It's tough to explain in a short message so check it yourselves:

        https://www.spintel.net.au/products/mobile

Sign up at the lowest rate for everything because you will get automatically bumped if your usage demands it.

Basically if you get bumped up to XL for everything then unlimited voice/sms and 2.5GB costs $35.

But if you say made less than 50 SMS a month then you would be paying $6 less so it would be $29 because you will still be on the lowest tier rate for SMS.

Don't forget to take account of the setup fee in your considerations.

        • Do Spintel have voicemail? I couldn't see anything about it on their site. If they do have voicemail, do you know what they charge for access / retrieval?

    • pick up a blank telstra sim at a telstra store and do a sim swap via live chat, instant 4G on Boost

Boost is not owned by telstra and has no connections to telstra. They just have an agreement to use the telstra network. They previously had the agreement with Optus.

    Please update your post.

    • +2

How come they use the Telstra call centre? And have to get a different sim to port between Tel$tra/boost?

      • +2

Telstra outsources to Teletech Holdings in the Philippines, as do many Telcos, and the Boost staff have been taken from the Telstra Pre-Paid queue and put onto the Boost queue. Whether Teletech see Boost as a different agreement to Telstra I don't know

    • You're wrong, Boost is now owned by Telstra

      • When did that happen? My google-fu is failing me.

  • +1

Citation over speculation re ownership would be nice and save folks getting flustered over trivialities.

    • I was curious too and found this on the Boost T&C's:
"TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF BOOST PRE-PAID SERVICES
The terms of your Boost Pre-Paid service are set out in Our Customer Terms (“OCT”) which can be found at telstra.com.au/customer-terms (as varied from time to time)."

      • Telstra licenced the boost brand last year.

  • So it is only until January then it drops back.

  • Looks like Telstra has data bandwidth to burn now it's not hosting any more Steam download servers!

  • good to hear, I was hitting the 2gb barrier a bit lately, 2.5gb will see me through a month though.

  • +1

Good on you Boost for the extra data! 3gb for $40 (inclusive of calls and texts) would be an ideal number to work with in this day and age..
Who doesn't miss the days of 6gb with Kogan though?? :(

  • Reminds of corporate corruption and foul play is what is though, but I rarely miss anything.. currently converting my voda credit to data O.o

  • Can anyone tell if the bonus 500MB applies for auto recharge?

    • It does

  • +1

Building on what ProjectZero has posted above, if you want full Telstra 4G and don't care about talk/minutes as much…

Get a Telstra Pre-Paid SIM and activate it to their Beyond Talk offer.
Beyond Talk DOES allow you to buy Data Packs with your recharge credit!

$40 gets you 300 mins, 300 MB and 1c text to other Telstra Mobiles.
$50 gets you 500 mins, 400 MB and Unlimited Text to ANY Australian Mobile.

    1GB Data pack = $39.
    3GB Data pack = $49.

So, if you recharge with $50, you get 3.4 GB 4G data, 500 mins and Unlimited SMS.

Not as good as Encore in terms of talk, but on par in terms of data (doing this with Encore got you $1000 calls/text + 3.8 GB)

    • Just to add my own opinion as well, for $50 (and provided the areas you visit have good vodafail reception).

      $50 Red gives

      Unlimited call and txt
3GB of data with 4G (i believe it is the fastest 4g network)
      300mins international calls. (300mins/60mins = 5hrs)

Not too bad provide the reception is good (for me, it is better then the lack of virgin mobile reception in areas i frequent). It's great for power users and people with family overseas.

Lycamobile… Telstra NextG. $39.90 a month for 4gb data unlimited calls and texts with added data bundle.
Unfortunately they dont support tethering but there are ways around this.

    • Where do you see this plan?

All I can find on their sites is unlimited calls and texts and 2GB of data for $29.90 :
      http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/super-saver-plan

They also standalone data packs. 3GB will set you back $25:
      http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/data-bundle

      • +2

Yes get the $29.90 plan with 2gb data. Then add another 2gb data pack for $10.

        • Nice one! You sure they allow this?

Have you done it personally yourself? Has it worked for you doing it this way?

        • +1

This is my first month. I havent used the included 2gb data up yet so havent had to buy the extra 2 gb data pack but when I log into my account there is an option there to buy it I just have to click it.

      • I guess they've forgotten to turn it off or just extended it

"This Data Pack is a promotional offer and is available from 07/04/2014 to 31/08/2014"

        • I've used Lyca before and they are known for putting everything as a 'promotional offer' with an expiry date.

They just end up extending and extending so this could be no different.

    • Be warned though.. you can't tether (turn your phone into a wifi hotspot) and they don't support MMS (picture messages). Customer support is terrible. And am getting constant drop outs when using data. I will be leaving them after my first month is up.

    • Thanks for the info on Lycramobile, I always thought they were using Optus or Vodafone.

  • I've been using Boost since moving from Adelaide to Bumfuck Idaho in remote WA. I can't fault the boost service. My only gripe was that 2GB of data was not enough and i've hit the limit every single month. 2.5GB is much better but 3GB for the next three months will be fantastic. This Boost deal is a no brainer for anyone that doesn't need 4G (and seriously, who actually needs it and couldn't cope with NextG 3G??)
