  • Thoughts on whether this really is a good deal + postage? Girlfriend needs an upgrade from her S3 mini

    • For $399 you can get a local stock Sony Xperia Z1 Compact from JB Hifi, no need to pay delivery and its Aussie warranty.

It's a beast of a phone, while also remaining fairly compact at 4.3 inches. It is one of the best compact sized phones you can buy.

This S4 Mini is a downgraded version of vanilla S4 in almost every aspect, with only dual core, LTE Category 3 and 540 x 960 res display. The extra accessories that come with it are only worth $30~40 tops.

      • Definitely the better option if the slightly greater size and price are not an issue. Frustrates me no end that the extra few millimetres and less rounded shape take these phones just beyond my usability limits (my 4.0" Xperia P was already pushing it).

    • Recently got one to replace my 4.0" Xperia P, since I wanted better performance but refuse to go any bigger (the S4 Mini is the same size despite the extra 0.3" of screen). Spec-wise, I think it's the best you can get if this size is your limit. I'm not keen on its glossiness but you can fix that with a case.

I'd be wondering where Kogan source theirs, though - if it's a Korean model, it might have some if the issues mentioned in this eBay listing. Think I also read somewhere about MMS not functioning in Australia on some Korean imports, though I'd be suprised if Kogan would sell such a model.

Note if you look elsewhere and encounter the i9195T model, which was sold locally, be aware it is thicker due to having a 2100mAH battery, and there are basically zero cases available that are properly sized for it.

  • I posted a deal previously that was removed for what ever reason, but I'll add it here as I thought it was a great price. I recently went to joyce mayne who will do the xperia Z for $338 or ex demo stock for $294. Yes the z series has progressed but for under $300 the xperia Z is a beast, 1920 x 1080 5" screen. quad core s4 pro CPU, adreno 320 GPU, 2GB ram, 16GB internal storage, 13mp camera, 4G and only 7.9mm thick…. what more could you want?

  • My missus has smaller hands so an Xperia Z is probably too large…otherwise i'd pass my old Z to her.

She seems use to the Touchwiz and layouts on Samsung so might just stick to it. Will read some reviews on this S4 mini and the S5 mini.
