TGG: Sony KD55X8500B 55" 4K UHD Smart 3D TV $1865 (RRP $2499) + Free SoundBar (RRP $499)

880

This is a much better deal than the one I listed before https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168587, it comes with a free sound bar http://www.sony.com.au/product/ht-ct370, I bought this from the TGG Thomastown, assuming nation wide, not advertised anywhere.

Was told it was until Monday

Get 5 free 4K movies in a hard drive?

    http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/summerofsony/index.html

    • -1

Hope so, because this is the only 4K content you'll watch in Australia for the next year or two.

4K TVs will be a lot cheaper before there's enough content to make them a remotely sensible purchase decision.

      • +1

what about the phones and cameras that have been around for a while now that can record 4k video, why not show them on a 4k screen.

  • cheaper @ Videopro with free delivery

    • +8

I didn't know that videopro had it, but it comes with a SoundBar

Please stop negging Trent, he made honest mistake plus he is one of us lol

    • +9

      C'mon, it's like $3 cheaper and without a $400 soundbar.

      • +2

Thought it was a sony promo my bad, if you can get that soundbar it's a nice deal and I think you can redeem some 4k movies too

  • +1

If you buy the SoundBar you can also get a BluRay player for free, I went back to the TGG, and they said they cannot give it to me as the SoundBar was a bonus.

Maybe a more seasoned Ozbargainer manage to get the TGG to give it to you, or price match other retailers and get them to give you the BluRay player.

    http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/summerofsony/ (scroll down the page)

As plmko said, 5 free 4K movies

    • so you have done this? Please confirm as this may be what I really want to buy lol
I just checked the deal, and did not find any "cannot combine with any other offer" fine text.

      • I did call them and they said no, so my plan now is to give Sony a call, and understand how does this work. I think TGG should have given the BluRay player away anyway as it is not coming out of their pocket.

        • Offer only available to Australian residents who purchase a qualifying product from a participating Sony Australia Authorised Dealer between 28/10/14 and 25/12/14.

You didn't purchase the Sony Soundbar, it was given to you as a bonus, so you don't qualify for the free bluray player.

        • +1

          @unity1:
I guess that would depend on the invoice is? If it says FREE sound bar or $0, then not qualified.
if it says the full price of sound bar - woldn't that be considered "purchased" ?

[@yoyo] Do you have the receipt scanned?

        • +1

@howard22: I'm sure it would be invoiced in such a way to show it was provided as a bonus, otherwise people would take it back to the store for a refund.

        • +1

          @unity1:
Yeah unity1, it actually list the Soundbar item for the price, but the receipt only include the TV price. But in the item list, it mentions it is a bonus and cannot be refunded.

I think the deal is a pretty good deal. What I was trying to say, is that Sony is throwing this deal on, and I would assume that TGG didn't get those Soundbars from the back of a truck somewhere, so puts the question in my head, what is happening to those BluRay players that Sony would throw in ? One would assume that TGG are selling them back, maybe …

I might sound that I am over entitled, maybe I am :)

    $50 rebate with Amex offer.

    • Lucky I have a Bank backed AMEX, otherwise I would have kicked myself lol

  • How to claim sound bar? in person?

    • Yeah, they gave it to me at the store at the same time as the TV

      • Really tempting but my couch doesnt come in for another 3 months… to wait for a better deal?

        • +6

watch tv and sit on the sound bar… duh!!!

        • @asswipe:
          Asswipe!

  • I'll buy one if it comes with a bonus sound bar, but doubt any of the Sydney stores have this deal.

  • Can anyone tell me if this TV works well with PS4?

From what I know, PS4 can only go up to 1080p. Would the PS4 look good with the upscaling?

And I am guessing Sony wont be having Sony Bravia + PS4 deals anymore?

  • +3

It's funny that they have the same TV in their current catalogue for $2187 which goes through till 17/11/14 http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/led-televisions/sony-55-139cm-…

This may be a store specific deal. OP if you are able to post your receipt it may help others get the same deal.

  • God damn it! I knew it was a wrong time to build a house :(

  • +3

"Limit 3 per customer" … this is an absolute outrage, fellow ozbargainers unite!

  • Would you choose this or the Samsung 55" UHD curved TV for $1588 from bing lee posted yesterday ? It doesn't come with a sound bar but I'm pretty confident I could pick a decent one up for the price difference if I wanted.

    • i would rather flat than curved, nicer against a wall and nicer when looking at an extreme angle (checking the news when in the kitchen)
also doesnt only sony and lg support the new freeview plus (or whatever its called)

  • +2

Here's confirmation but can't get the paper advertisement up http://www.buckscoop.com.au/deals/buy-a-selected-55-4k-uhd-t…

    • Thanks unity1 for the link, I am glad it is all national

  • tempted, especially I am using Sony phone.

  • Anyone know if input lag is good with this? Or should I go with the larger 1080p screen?

  • Are there any 4K TV's that are over 100hz?
or is there some reason not to?

  • -2

Why would anyone want a 4k TV now? Absolutely pointless.

    • Mobile phones and go-pros and other cameras can record 4K for a while now, so why not show them on a 4k screen

    • Not that ive done any research, but perhaps passive 3D at 1080p? Thoughts anyone?

  • Thanks for posting this. Grabbed one yesterday (qld). Bit of messing around, tried to get JB to match but no go. Even the good guys didn't know about it, they had to call up their promo department, but was all good after that.

Great deal, most shops are selling the tv for around that price, plus/minus $50, but may as well get the soundbar, while I wouldn't have normally bought one, will find a use for it :)

This TV only supports 60hz at 4K via it's HDMI 2.0 input, aka 60 frames a second. 100hz is for FHD.

    (source : http://www.sony.com.au/product/kd-55x8500b )

Manual shows PC connection (as a HTPC or a PC monitor) is capable of only 30hz max for 4K resolution (aka 30fps).

No GPU Card out has HDMI 2.0 support only HDMI 1.4, hence this limitation.

    (source : http://www.sony-asia.com/microsite/bravia_i-manuals/FY14/X85… )

Only if the TV had DisplayPort input or there was a device to convert DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 (not 1.4), then this wouldn't be a bad buy.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, because Id buy this otherwise.
