Toll Free on Go Between Bridge (Nov 14-16) & Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge (Nov 15), Brisbane

120

Reading the G20 website and saw this. Not sure if anyone will benefit as I'd imagine people would avoid travelling as much as possible. But good to know I suppose…

"As a result of G20 traffic changes in and around the Brisbane CBD and South Brisbane, two bridges will be made toll free to help people move around the city.

  • The Go Between Bridge will be toll free from 12.01am Friday 14 November to midnight Sunday 16 November.
  • The Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges (Gateway Bridges) will be toll free on Saturday 15 November from 6.00am to midnight."

The Clem7 people aren't the smartest.

      20,000 people/day x $5 = $100k
      70,000 people/day x $2 = $140k

Don't know why they keep building these stupid toll roads when no one is using them.
So much for the $2 tolls initially promised when this whole transapex rubbish was proposed.

High tolls = low traffic volume = bankrupt owners…who would have thought?

Not to mention that the current owners of Clem7 bought it for a bargain price from the original bankrupt consortium. So they have only a fraction of the cost to recoup but they still charge the top dollar. Greedy Pr*cks.

Well, for toll roads, it works differently. Low toll x high volume = high maintenance cost.

      • Even with free tolls it was only around 60,000 a day. They did try dropping it to $2 for a while.. it was around 30,000 a day mark.

That would probably be because one-time tolls are very difficult to pay. The website goes out of its way to obfuscate the process, and if you use the "pay by phone" option, they add a service fee.

If you make something difficult to try out, it's hardly surprising when you don't convert those people into regular customers.

  • +1ing this only because this would never happen in Sydney. ***** M5 and M2, roadworks every other day and you still pay tolls

  • Free M7 please

  • Is the gateway bridge free until midnight Saturday night too? So Friday and Saturday?

    • The OP post was very clear.
