Ends this Sunday, similar to previous deal for $899 + $150 gift voucher minus the voucher and minus $134.85. Better for those that don't want the voucher I guess.

According to this link https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Catalogue-Corrections/ the $150 voucher is applicable to all sales of this camera until 19/11/14 (Big Brand Camera Bonanza 06 November 2014 - 19 November 2014). So you will get the $150 voucher.

    • Could also mean that it only applies to the sale price of the camera within this particular catalogue.

Doesn't hurt to try if someone is shopping for this camera anyway.

The voucher prints automatically on the bottom of the receipt. You should receive the voucher as long as you make a purchase between 6/11-19/11. Someone will confirm sooner or later.

        • Yes - you get a voucher from JB Hi-Fi to spend on whatever you want (to the value of $150), plus you get a $30 Sony Accessories voucher to use on their website - as I've posted here

        • @Willy Orwontee: I was told Apple products (agency lines) were excluded.

Have you been back to get a refund on the price difference?

        • @unity1:

I purchased on Sunday … do you know if they price-match when they drop the price within a certain number of days ?

        • @Willy Orwontee: Just ask politely and they may oblige https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/111648

        • @Willy Orwontee:
Bought same day as you, went to chadstone today and got the difference refunded. Manager was nice about it and mentioned that they normally only adjust if it is within two days. Other commenter is right, be polite and nice

Also i saw a new $150 voucher automatically printed with the new receipt but the manager held on to it.

Can confirm you do get the 150 voucher as well. Source: Posting from JB hifi checkout with camera & voucher in hand (expires at Christmas but that's solved easily). Incredible value, thanks op!!

Just bought one right now, confirm I've got the $150 voucher!

Thanks op, it's exactly what I was looking for, for the gf's birthday present! Tipped me in favour of the camera rather than some silly overpriced designer bag I was considering :)

    • Can confirm purchased tonigth with 15% discount and received a printed $150 voucher

      • did you buy online?

        • Nope in store. We picked up the last one in stock at Westfield Mt Gravatt so if you're keen for one I'd get into store tomorrow.

  • This deal looks great! I'm very tempted but after an opinion on whether this would produce better images than an a5100 with 16-50 kit? The 16-50 kit lens is f3.5-5.6 vs the 24-70 f1.8-2.8 on this. Any thoughts? I am travelling overseas in a month so can claim TRS to make this even better!

    • In my opinion I think it would do better than an a5100 with 16-50 kit. I recently travelled across Europe with this camera and am more than happy with the decision. It performed very strongly in low light situations, better than DSLR kit cameras. Also the camera provides many features which make it convenient whilst travelling such as NFC (transfer to phone), remote camera via phone, bounce flash.

      • That sounds like a good recommendation as that is exactly what I will be doing. I'm not overly fussed about needing to fit it in my pocket or for quick capture photos. But it is nice to have a viewfinder sometimes. I found the a5100 for under $600 so I think I'll take that option.

        • The RX100Mk3 has a pop up viewfinder.

        • @evol: Thanks evol. I did know the Mk3 has a viewfinder, hence why I mentioned it is nice sometimes. However, it's also nice to have photos that come out a bit nicer on prints. And maybe I'll take up that lens addiction everyone keeps talking about.

        • @stiiky:

Sorry mate, read your comment wrong :) I think if you're going for the A5100 you may as well stretch the budget and get the very good A6000 - you'll get far more bang for your buck. I remember seeing JB Hifi catalogue recently having a bundle of the A6000 with 16-50 and 55-210 for $800. Maybe with the 15% off sale it's a bit cheaper now?

        • @evol: That a6000 bundle sounds like it would have been a great deal at that price. I had a quick look and could only find the body listed online. Unfortunately I'm about 900km from the nearest JB so can't see if it's available in store. I think the a5100 would be enough for what I need and the extra $200 or so I'd save would allow me to grab an additional lens or other kit.

      • You do realize that the a5100 16-50mm kit is pretty much exactly what you would get with DSLR kit cameras - same sensor, same kit lens, same optics, the only thing missing is the 'SLR' part - that affects how you take the photo, not the photo itself. Low light performance will be similar.

The RX100M3 also has NFC WiFi etc. btw, not that anyone should care. It's a camera, not an iPhone.

      Hi,
The 16-50mm is equivalent to 24-75mm so the effective focal length is similar i.e. the zoom range you will have for taking the same photo with both cameras will be almost exactly the same.

Either would produce better images under different condition. Probably a5100 a bit better in low light especially moving subjects, RX100M3 in photos where you can take advantage of the large aperture. That's all pretty irrelevant though. The question is which one you would take better photos with. And I would say the RX100M3 because you're more likely to have it with you at the right time.

I would say go for the RX100M3. Seen too many people with bulky SLRs and not really use them to their potential while ending up with a far too bulky camera. Even though they'll insist they are perfectly happy - see comment below :-)

Mirrorless like a5100 are smaller, but still not that small - there's a limit to how small you can make lenses for APS-C sensors.

My general advice is if you're not sure exactly why you need a DSLR / mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, you don't need one. If you don't have two specific lenses in mind that you plan to buy in the next twelve months, then you don't need an interchangeable lens camera.

If your not going to invest in fast prime lenses, get the rx100. If you are. get the dslm

  • thanks, purchased the last demo set in bondi

    • Did you get a further discount as it's the demo unit?

  • what about ordering online and receiving the $150 voucher - or is it in store only?

  • +2

Thanks OP. Picked one up at Cockburn Gateway (WA). Got the $150 voucher as well. It's valid until 21st January.

  • So tempting. May have to get one tomorrow. Thanks OP.

Shop assistant in world square name Sean helped me find one, he called several stores. Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, couldn't believe I was in jb hifi. There aren't many left.

    • Ahh Sean's still working there.. He trained me when I was working camera sales there almost three years ago now.
Good guy, they're all pretty nice in that store!

    • Dang, i was hoping to find a place in Sydney city with one. Did he mention the stores that did have stock??

      • Possibly artarmon. But I would just go to him and he can find stock for you somewhere. Very different from the usual apathetic shop assistants. The shops he was calling he hadv to patiently explain that there are three versions, then tell them how to distinguish the box.

The other shop people are cool too. I was very tempted to pick up a twenty percent off blu ray set just because of that but my ozbargain spirit overruled.

        • Cheers. Artarmon is not too far from me, I might give them a call!

      • Chatswood had one as of this morning and might be getting another in.

  • Available at VideoPro for $762 but no voucher with free delivery

got the last one from Chirnside Park VIC for $757 + $150 voucher with expiry of 21st Jan

it was definitely worth 40min drive LOL

    Thanks OP

I don't think it's worth upgrading from Mk2 though… I should test out Mk3 to see if my investment was worth it

  • Such a good price and I can finally replace my LX-5. I can also claim the TRS 2 month later when I travel overseas. May pull the trigger soon.

  • If you want to forgo the voucher (Don't know why) you could get Myer to price match JB Hifi and use the Amex $50 credit off $250 to bring the price down to $714.15

  • Just spoke with the Chadstone store. I bought my camera last week when the offer started. Asked them nicely and they said they'll refund the difference if I bring the camera and receipt in. Hope that helps anyone else who jumped on the deal last week.

managed to hold one the last one at MacArthur square for 15mins while I went to buy $100 gift cards with ing 5% cashback at woollies, coles, big w, target and jb. Tarin was a top bloke who held it for me. TRS with 5% gift cards and $150 jb vouchers almost brings this to $500. well worth the 30min drive :)

    • Well you just saved me spending money today, thank you!

  • +1

ING 5% off would yield about $39 savings, chances are the price of this camera will drop by more than $39 in next 6 months so it could be better to pay with 28 Degrees master card and claim price protection later (if price does fall) for those with a 28 degrees master card. Plus you get Merchandise Protection too.

    • Agree, can't see much benefit of the ING deal on more expensive tech products which will only drop in price over time. No price protection, no merchandise protection, no extended warranty.

    • Yeah I've got 28 degrees but in lending this to a mate for a month and could also claim TRS, so I couldn't use my own credit card.
Not too worried about manufactures warranty since we get an extra year under consumer law, but 6 months accidental insurance is definitely a plus, just hoping I don't drop it :-P

  • For folks in Adelaide,
I bought one from the Marion store approx. 30 mins ago. I got the $150 voucher, it expires in Jan 2015 (not sure of exact date, voucher is in the car). I also got a class 10 memory card at cost price because i bought it with the camera.
    Hope this helps someone :)

  • Just picked one up from Cranbourne VIC and got the $150 voucher. They had 2 in stock. Thanks OP!

  • +2

Just got the last one from Altona. They'll drop it as low as 757

    • I also got mine at $757 plus an additional 2 years jb hifi warranty for $50. :) used the ing direct 5% giftcard method. Cheap deal!!

      • What does jb warranty cover? Thinking of going back in store to get it.

  • No stock at JB Knox but I paid in full for one and received the receipt with the $150 gift voucher. I'll pick up the camera when JB receives stock from Sony.
Make sure that the sale is finalized when you pay otherwise you won't get the $150 gift voucher printed on the receipt.

    • smart…. I drove all the way to chirnside park when knox was just around the corner lol

  • great deal! unfortunately i am not within 60 days of travelling overseas yet. seems to be xmas sales are starting to ramp up early. hopefully this is a sign of good deals to be had this holiday season.

  • Anyone had both the Mk1 and Mk3 and been able to compare?

  • Thanks Op!!! Just picked one up today for $760! Did anyone manage to bargain it for less? Please post!

    • $758

      • +1

$756, also bought a case for $15 which helped to bring down the price

        • Sorry to ask, but whereabouts did you get the RX100 III for $756, and would you have a copy of receipt as I'm looking at going to JB HiFi tomorrow for the RX100 (it's going to be my Xmas present).

  • whats everyone buying with the $150 voucher? don't exactly know what agency products are besides apple…

    • It's valid till Jan, so I am just going to wait. There will be lots of offers leading to Christmas.

  • So… I wont be able to grab the original iPad air2 case with the voucher as its Apple?
