    18th Anniversary Saturday, Free BBQ

    Which brand of BBQ?

    • +24

      Don't ever change.

  • +5

    Loving the 14 hour bbq.

    • +4

Starts at midnight on Sat! ;-) Snags by twilight! Snags will be OzB'ed fast…

      OzB meetup Scotty?

    • +10

Another excuse to ignore the phones…

    • 14 hour bbq

12 PM is midday not midnight.

      • +1

If you didn't see it earlier the page actually said 12AM.

  • +1

    Pop in to browse
    MSY
I'm pretty sure they'd yell at you for loitering

    • +6

Hah, yeah, it's like buying soup from the Soup Nazi. The other day I went in and they didn't have in stock what I wanted, but I felt too guilty about holding up the queue to look at the pricelist for an alternative.

      • +2

i go during the work day if i can, last time the guy actually went thought alternatives with me… i was amazed.. loll

      • +10

Their website lists stock levels for each store. People like you should for guilty about holding up the line. Every time I go there, there's some idiot who either has no idea about computers and expects Harvey Norman style assistance or someone who didn't order online.

They really need to use Umart's system. One price for online preorders and another higher price for walk ins.

        • +3

I've ordered things online and went in store to find they don't have them in stock.

        • +2

PlainToad.. its Friday take it easy! :)

i know msy well and i went there after CALLING them which again came after checking stock online .. .like i said i know them WELL… went there and the CPU they had been holding for me… well it wasn't there!

usually they just look at you dumbly like what else u want me to do .. I've found during the week they actually say well what about THIS CPU we have some of these here… and what do you want to actually do… kinda caught me by surprise … there are no lines during the week :)

that's all i was saying no one said they need to give Harvey normal style assistance (and i'm not sure if you ever go to Harvey normal for computer parts but i don't think they are of any assistance!)

          peace out

        • +1

          @scud70:
Fair enough. More in general to the inbred twits that always seem to be at the Logan store.

        • +1

          @PainToad:
Lol Logan, what did you expect?

        • So MSY should be exclusively for online nerds?

        • +1

          @Possumbly:
Yes. MSY are able to sell at such reduced prices (compared to places like Harvey Norman) because they have skeleton staff, because "nerds" have the knowledge to pick the parts without assistance. Idiots who don't do their own research holds up the line and will eventually force MSY to hire more staff and drive up the prices for everyone.

        • -2

@PainToad: Seems you need to think outside your tiny little me box. There's at least one obvious alternative - you could show a tiny bit of patience, choose your time to shop better, or use your initiative and organise a pickup time. Surprisingly it's not all about you all of the time.

        • -1

          @Possumbly:
Funny, the person who thinks it's ok to hold up everyone because they're too lazy to do their own research before getting to the store, is giving a lecture on selfishness.

As for choosing hours I pickup…it's called a Monday-Friday job.

        • -1

@PainToad: your assumptions are as inaccurate as your entitlement is galling. Get out of the right side of the bed earlier and get to the store first thing Sat or Sunday. Ah but then you'd have nothing to whinge about.

        • @PainToad:

          I'm sure you prefer Gamedude!

        • -1

          @Possumbly:
They're not open Sundays. Saturdays they don't open till 10:30.

BTW notice all the up votes on my comment got? It's not "my" whinge.

        • -2

@PainToad: Good thing, you don't even need to get up early which will give you time to develop a mature attitude to other shoppers before you venture out. I'm not in the least surprised that there's at least 10 more with your entitled attitude on OzB. I'd bet good money I can guess the demographic in most cases.

Here's another idea for you to contemplate. The thing which keeps MSY cheap/competitive is their ability to shift stock. Surprisingly that requires more that one customer.

      • +1

ALWAYS have a contingency product (or two) in mind when going to buy, even if their system says they have the product

      • You are a good person for not holding up the queue. Thank you. If you know exactly what you are looking for they can give you a quick rundown of what they have got in stock at the lowest price though (doesn't take long), otherwise do some research on your phone while they get other parts or serve other customers.

  • +14

I bet that at 12:01 they'll be out of stock on the BBQ sausages

    Ah MSY :) Good times

    • +1

      They're on backorder as usual.

  • 18 anniversaries should attract 18% off. MSY you got the maths wrong.

    • +2

Can't wait until they have their 100th anniversary in that case :p

      • +2

Don't worry you won't be around.

        • +5

I'll be 98. Slim chance, but still a a chance haha.

        • Neither will they.

  • +4

Could just imagine the friendly folks at my local MSY doing a sausage sizzle…

    • +9

Powered by 2 graphic cards with their heatsinks removed.

      • +1

That would be a waste of stock

        • +1

Just use some from the RMA pile out the back.

    • Hot dogs, literally.

  • +25

A BBQ at MSY is literally a sausage fest.

  • I see some prices have been bumped up. Was eyeing on the Netgear RN31600-100AJS $675 before now $739 :(

    • DDR3 used to cost $140 for a 32GB kit now that will set you back $350

  • starts from 12AM! Midnight BBQ!

  • +7

    2% surcharge on sausages.

    • +2

Is there a 15% restocking fee too?

  • NSW Ultimo Sydney, who will be there on Sat except family and tourists?

    • +6

No, the sausages have already been stolen.

      • +1

    • Full refund.

      • +1

        • Of 95%

  • +8

Can I check sausage levels online to avoid disappointment?

    • +2

Too many sausages, not enough taco.

    • Gah! Wanted to upvote, but ma damn thin sausages still managed to hit the neg :/

      • I suppose you'd like to know the return policy in case your sauso is DOA.

  • +3

A bit off topic, but I've never understood why a company as big as MSY can't afford some cheap web hosting. If you've ever noticed their site being slow, it's because it's hosted on the end of a Dodo ADSL connection in Melbourne.

    • +5

      Wafer thin margins.

  • Hi OzBargainers!

tdlr; Help me choose between Dell Inspriron 15 7000 (Already purchased @ $1329) vs Gigabyte P35GV2 (MSY sale this weekend $ $1709)

Can someone help me with laptop choice. Keep in mind I need Mrs Vietbargain to sign off on the extra $400 expense! I need to convince her that the Gigabyte will be worth it. Although I've tried to educate her otherwise, she expects laptops to last 5 years …

Basically I've been looking for a gaming (Current play HoN + Diable 3. maybe get into something more hardcore?) and photo processing laptop for a while (but with a low height profile + decent 6hr battery life), I went with bought a Dell less than a week ago (still in transit at the moment) because they had 30% off Inspiron 15 7000 special. I believe I can get a full refund with Dell.

    Dell Laptop @ $1329:

    CPU: 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4510U processor (4M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (64Bit) English
    RAM: 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx2)
HDD: 1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hybrid Hard Drive with 8GB Cache
    Graphic: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB GDDR5
Display: 15.6 inch LED Backlit Touch Display with Truelife and FHD resolution (1920 x 1080)
    Wireless: Intel® Wireless-N 7260 BGN @ 2.4GHz + Bluetooth 4.0
Primary Battery: 58 WHr, 4-Cell Battery (removable)

    Dimensions & Weight
    Width: 14.9” (379.4mm)
Height: 0.9” (22.2mm) with optional touch display
    Depth: 10.0” (254.8mm)
    Weight: 2.6 Kg

    VS

    ======

    The Gigabyte P35GV2-860-4701S @ $1709.10

    CPU: Intel 4th Gen. i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz(Turbo 3.5GHz)
    OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
    RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600
    HDD: 256GB SSD (128Gx2 Raid 0)
Graphic: Nvidia GTX 860M Graphics 4GB DDR5 Dedicated VGA
Display: 15.6” IPS FHD(1920x1080) LED Screen

    Dimensions & Weight
    Width: 385mm
    Height: 21mm
    Depth: 270mm
    Weight: 2.16 Kg

ps. besides the price, anyone know what's the difference between P35GV2-860-4701S and P35GV2-860-4706S?

    • Have a look at Horize laptops @ www.logicalblueone.com.au

      • I have looked at them extensively. The main deterrent for me personally, is that the both P150SM and W650SJ are about 31mm thick. I'll be travelling through Europe for next 18 months or so and wanted some "extra" portability.

Also, I wasn't sure if the GPU on the W840SN would handle some later games or video processing that well.

    • +1

Are you really looking for 6 hours of battery life? I don't think either of these laptops are going to come close to that.

  • Why just gigabyte, actually after a motherboard but stock is 'low - call store' on all the decent gigabyte boards at the sale store. If i'm going to make the trip to a store I want to be walking out with a box, not a backorder. Perhaps allocate some gigabyte stock if you're going to have a gigabyte sale?

  • +1

Ahhh… I remember when MSY was one store, operating out of a tiny shop in Clayton with CRT monitors piled to the roof and they didn't have a website!

    • +1

You meant Malvern? That's the first MSY store I thought. That was back in the days without GST (but sales tax), and you could get bargains from swapmeets back in those days. MSY started to become bigger after the introduction of GST.

      • +1

Apparently before Malvern, it was operated out of some guy's house. Still don't know what MSY ACTUALLY stands for though.

      • You are correct sir. I was thinking of Malvern.

    • Love to know more about their history
