  • Tempting….

    • +4

yeah. was saving up for the 7d to get cheaper…. then i blew it on starwars and simpsons lego sets… otherwise I would've got this.

      • i couldnt resist the star wars lego either xD

        • Was this the eBay sale? I'm looking for a reasonably priced Millennium Falcon (preferably made from Lego).

      • What is the attraction with lego StarWars?

Not trolling, I love cult movies, even bought a full-size T-800 endoskeleton skull… just can't see the Lego + Star Wars relationship…

        • amongst various other things, the very fact that you can make a profit by buying and keeping them :) Does that resonate with your inner Ozbargainer spirit? :P

the real reason i am splurging on lego is "just because I can", while filling a childhood of lego-less void. :D

        • @slowmo: that does resonate. lol

  • If you're going o'seas and can claim TRS based on sales price of $799. You end up paying $426?

    • Yes.

      • Is there a time limit? i.e. need to travel within 30 days?

        • Need to be travelling overseas within 60 days of purchase.
And if they're going to split the lens and body onto two different receipts. Gotta make sure each receipt is over $300 otherwise it won't qualify for TRS.

        • +1

          @Trance N Dance:

No. You can have multiple receipts from the same vendor as long as it totals over $300.

    • -2

technically speaking, if you bring back the item into the country again, you do have to pay gst… but then, would you declare it? ;) moral/conscience come into play?

      • +1

no because you are allowed $900AUD worth to bring back in without duty

        • +1

Also, it depreciates based on a schedule, so you'll be aright.

      • well even if you buy something worth $3000 like i did, if you are travelling with your family that $900 gets multiplied by the number of people

So they looked at it , oh four people.. 4x $900 = $3600, so under the limit so dont need to repay the GST.

  • +1

errm, this is really misleading as to get the double cash back bonus, you have to spend $200 on other canon products.

so it's more like $699 for a 700d SLK + $200 of other canon stuff

    • +2

I think they will make it as separate items, like you bought 700d body plus the lens for $200 so you can get the double cashback
      like what digidirect is doing

      • -1

Does not work like that, if you bought the camera body and the lens seperately, you'd spend more to get the same. I've seen this misleading pricing from another camera vendor or 2 in the last few days of camera shopping.

Canon lenses seem to quickly jump from $150 to $350 and they're offering more off the 700d than the 10d which is a better camera @ similar coin.

Nikon also has cash-back deals ATM.

        • I am really note sure about it but if you looked in the deal I linked, you will see the digidirect reply for the same question. they stated this what they will do.

        • +2

          @msmhw:

yeah i believe camerahouse will separate the body and the lens on the receipt to give you the double cashback

        • @CVonV: Thought of this while looking up the cashback, but just got more lenses and didn't want to take the risk. Canon reviews on an individual basis, a kit one product. If Camerahouse knows what they are doing and Canon is fine with that, go for it.

    • +1

here is a misleading, you will get that price if you spend $200 extra on other canon product

*After $300 double cashback, $628 after $150 single cashback - Spend at least an additional $200 on any Canon product in a single transaction to summit a claim for the double cash back - More details.)

    • Don't know why am I being negged.. 478 at Georges after 300 cashback and 499 here.. Am I missing something??

      • +1

i'm guessing because with georges you have to buy another canon product that's worth at least $200.. so the total outlay is at least $200 more

with camerahouse you do not need to

        ps i didn't neg you

  • Or JB Hifi yesterday…

    • +4

      that was 600D not 700D

  • Dick had the best deal but quickly changed their price when it hit ozbargain this morning.

    • What was the deal? Can u post the link?

        • +7

I ordered one about 4am last night and collected today. My night owl lifestyle helped me scoring this deal. TRS will bring it down to about $350. Way better than this deal but Dick messed it up.

        • @areustillpretty: lucky you, I want one for that price :(
with TRS should be around $328 as you will get 10% of the original price not after the cashback price.

        • @areustillpretty: Well done.

        • +1

          @msmhw:

9.09% (divide by 11) of the price on the tax invoice

          awesome stuff @areustillpretty! :)

        • @areustillpretty: for TRS, do you have to claim it yourself if your name is on the invoice, or could you have an immediate family member claim it? TIA

        • @areustillpretty: would you be able to post up a receipt or email me one if possible? I wonder if anyone will price match it.

        • @anthoneeyz: AFAIK You can do it for others, and vice versa unless the item price is over $1000. I always did it for my stuff so not sure.

        • @flow13:

          This is the link: http://imgur.com/SZZ0WfQ
See how you go. I should've created one more account and ordered two !

        • @areustillpretty: please anyone report back if you able to price match and where you did it.
          thanks @areustillpretty for the receipt

        • @areustillpretty:

no you can't.. only you can claim if your name is on the invoice.. if there is no name on the invoice then that's better

invoices at least $1000 need to have your name on it

        • @areustillpretty:
With that receipt though, you will only be able to claim single cashback….
          It needs to read
          Canon 700D Body Only - $x.xx
          Canon 18-55mm IS lens - $x.xx (over $200)

They won't pay double cashback with the 1 item like that :(

  • Not sure if this is how it works

    Camera SLK $799
    Additional gear $200
    Total spent $999
    Less double cash back ($300)
    Net amount $699

    Less TRS for some ($90)
Net amount $609 for 700D SLK with $200 in gear

    • +2

normally yes.. but it seems like with camerahouse you don't need to purchase another canon product worth $200 as they will separate the body and the lens and will most likely price the lens @ >= $200

TRS refund will be $72.63 (divide by 11)

  • +4

The reason why manufacturer's give cashbacks is because if they sold the items cheaper to the retailers, the retailers would just keep the same price and pocket the difference. With a cashback, the purchaser will get all the discount, and even then, there's a lot of people who just don't even bother making a claim.. It is very sneaky tho, of some retailers to jack up the price knowing that a cashback is on offer just so they can make an extra few dollars..

  • Good price for 700d. But thinking of Good Guys' $200 store credit for the 70d which brings the price down to $947 ($1147 - $200). With Canon's cashback it would be another $150 off.

  • The PDF of Camera House Catalogue says you need to buy another 200$ canon product to get double cashback

    http://aws.lasoomedia1.com.au/imageicon/crh/prod/j00564013/c…

    • Then camera solutions has lower price.

    • +1

that is the case for those items listed in the catalog:

Canon 700D Creative Kit: 18-55mm IS STM, 55-250mm IS STM, 50mm f/1.8, backpack, Tripod & Canon Battery
      $1299 befere cashback
      $1149 after single cashback
      $999 after double cashback
and the * of the flyer says "with a second qualifying purchase"

however this is taken from their website

      • Canon EOS 700D Creative Kit (Body, 3 Lenses, Bag, Tripod, Battery) is already eligible for the Double cashback without having to purchase further $200 Canon products.

      • Canon EOS 1200D Creative Kit (Body, 3 Lenses, Bag, Tripod, Battery) is already eligible for the Double cashback without having to purchase further $200 worth of Canon products.

there is no mention of the OP $499 ($799)deal.. it could be a store specific special.. although i suspect that that board in the picture is failing to mention the condition.. maybe just to lure customers in?

  • Double? As in Star Trek IV double???

just came back from the macarthur store - can confirm that you still need to purchase total $200 worth of extra canon products to get the full $300 cashback

  • +4

I can confirm this deal. I went into the Broadway store yesterday and purchased this camera for the deal as stated in the original post.

The body and lens were separated on the receipt so that the lens was counted as the '$200 worth canon product' to ensure the double cashback offer.

I've also received the confirmation letter from Canon of the $300 cashback.

    • +4

So they essentially sell you the single lens kit (all in one box) and just separate the body and lens on the receipt? Smart.

      • +2

Exactly right. I'm not sure why another user was told otherwise at the Macarthur store.

        • +1

I went to the Macarthur store the other day and they said you could purchase it at $799 and receive the $300 cashback bringing it down to $499.

I was in Penrith today and I thought I would check if they did it too and they said yes. So I end up buying it from Penrith.

Smart way to do it. Store still makes a sale and we receive a cashback from Canon. Win win!

        • Yep. That is absolutely correct. Perhaps that staff member was not properly informed?

  • +3

Tried to get this deal in qld(Indooroopilly) and was not able to. Called through to the Hornsby store who told me to call the Broadway store. Called through and spoke with Nigel who helped me place an order over the phone. Postage was $20. Have already had my cash back claim validated through canon, and have been given the tracking number through oz post. Overall great service Nigel and camera house Broadway.

    • +1

Pleasure to do business with you mate!

  • Im looking at doing the same thing. The above posts surprise me though. If you look at the Canon terms and conditions they are quite explicit in that you cannot do this.

    Quoting from Canon:

"To avoid any doubt, standard Canon DSLR kits constitute a single product (kits cannot be split) …"

So while there's no issue having a receipt listing the two items, or sending it to Canon, the issue might be on actually getting the full cash back. It would depend on whether Canon notice or choose to ignore it, or alternately decline the $300 cash back in favour of the $150.

From one of the posts above, it seems like at least some get through. Of course if that changed or was a one off, it would be the customer's problem some time after making the purchase. Not sure if I want to risk that myself …..

  • +1

Why don't you come in store and have a chat to us. We can work something out for you!

  • hi i'm looking to purchase the 700D today, is this still a good deal and currently valid?
I'm from QLD and the local camerahouse will not split the items on the receipt, are you able to assist Rep?
    cheers.

    • This camera and lens kit is $511 (after cashback) plus $15.90 postage at digiDirect.
      http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/canon/canon_eos_700…

      • thanks matey!
any other good deals for a newb you'd recommend checking out?

        • if you buy the body only and a canon lens separate you will get double the cashback

          700d body $571 after 10% discount
          18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM $404 after 10% discount
          TOTAL = $675 (after $300 double cashback)

if you bought it as a kit it's $753 after only $150 cashback

however the kit mentioned above (with the 18-55mm) is cheaper than if bought separate

you can also just get canon accessories instead totaling at least $200 to get the $300 double cashback

        • @CVonV:
          thanks for the help guys.
i ended up getting the 700D+18-55mm kit from digi for 661, and the 55-250mm lens as a separate item.
but the dude warned that he is 100% certain canon will reject the double cash back claim on the lens, as it is a kit item, and canon has already begun rejecting cash back claims on kit lenses.
You guys heard anything on that?

        • @Foolio:

you should be okay since you bought the specific single lens kit as opposed to the twin lens kit (and did not separate those lenses from that kit)

you actually got a very good deal for essentially the same as the TLK but for $609 ($661 + $248 - $300) compared to $775

          worthy of a post imo
