Compaq CQ61-212TU Notebook - T4200, 4GB RAM, 160GB HD, 15.6", Intel GMA 4500M - $748 @ Officeworks

70

Hey,

Well i bought this laptop (the HP version) from america 2 months, which included 64 bit operating system aswell as free upgrade to windows 7, for 700$AUD. However, I found this laptop at officeworks which is pretty similar to the US version, minus the 64bit operating system.

Anyway, I think this is one of the best deals out there for a laptop to use for study, movies etc. No high graphics games obviously as it doesnt have a dedicated graphics card. However it is 15.6inch wide screen, 4 gig ram (with a 32 bit operating system), not sure if it elligible for the windows 7 upgrade but meh. The CPU is t4200 coreduo, which is better then any celeron/athlon cpu's you get with laptops that are this cheep.

I have used mine for last 2 months no problems, perfect for web browsing / normal things.

Not sure if you can haggle at officeworks, but even at 750$ pretty decent laptop

  • Not too shabby, quite a respectable little laptop for the money! IIRC the T4200 CPU's are penryn core so should run 64bit OS just fine, then you can use all of the 4GB RAM! :)

You might want to change this bit though, "No games obviously as it doesnt have a hardrive." since it's got a 160GB HDD; and the embedded 4500MHD will, in addition to HD video, allow for some older/rudimentary gaming! ;)

    • Whoops, meant to say it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card.

  • You can get a Lenovo G550-295835M (T4200/3GB/250GB/15.6"/CAM/DVDRW/VHP) - pretty much the same specs, but 1GB less RAM and 90GB more HDD, $699 at MSY.

But a good deal regardless. Not quite a bargain though.

    • Just checked it out, 679. That appears to be an even better deal :p Didn't know msy had good deals on laptops.

  • Actually, it comes with a 250GB HDD. The specs on the officeworks website are slightly wrong. The T4200 isn't a Core2Duo cpu but a Pentium Dual-core one, i.e. only 1mb L2 cache compared to 2mb for Core2Duos. Its Core2Duo counterpart (with 2mb L2 cache) is the T6500. Not a bad deal! :-)

    • I thought coreduo = pentium Dual core, and the newer one is called Core2duo. Weird names. But thanks for that update =]

  • Good deal for a Pentium DC notebook. Perhaps not the cheapest around (the MSY Lenovo looks good) but as Officeworks are everywhere, mom and pops can go and pick one up without a hassle.

The design of this notebook is quite nice too with the numpad included on the KB (as with most 15.6" screens these days).

  • Can this be eligible for windows 7?.

Edit: May be it does as per http://welcome.hp.com/country/ap/en/mda/windows7/upgrade/eli… (If this is Compaq Presario CQ61)

  • It is eligible for a Windows 7 Upgrade Kit from HP (http://welcome.hp.com/country/ap/en/mda/windows7/upgrade/ind…).

"Q: Is there a cost for an upgrade kit through the Windows® 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP?
A: There is no cost for the Windows® 7 Upgrade Kit from HP, however, there may be a charge to cover shipping, handling, and other fees."

  • Hey guys, i jus saw this on gumtree a couple of days back. Its Core 2 Duo, T5500, 160GB, 2GB, Window XP Media Centre. Is it a good deal??
