ah price good but very slow reading comments on previous deal - pass!

      Keep trying, you'll get quicker.

Kingston V300 switched to Asynchronous NAND to save costs, it's much slower than just about every other SSD, even slower than a HDD in some scenarios.

if it is 80 AUD, shipped then can do as a secondary drive
after all it is SSD, it can still go around 300mb/s just not the once excellent 450 mb /s of the old drive

They should flock the V300s off as the NEW V310 is on the way… but after what happened.. with OCZ… i dont expect it to compete well against likes of Trenscend Kingmax at similar price level

True, very slow. Could get out and push my data faster!

make it $40 and i'll buy one or two!

  • Yummy !

Ppl don't read comment when upvote this deal… Kingston has changed to inferior NAND flash for their V300 and it has been mentioned many times before. With this price, you'd better get the MSY deal on OCZ

      Not a valid neg.

It's well known that the V300's are on the low end of the performance scale.

Find a cheaper price or remove the neg.

Why are people down voting samehada?

$105 shipped for a bottom of the barrel performing SSD that is KNOWN to be inferior in speed to pretty much every other common SSD for sale is not a good deal. Samusung EVO, Sandisk Ultra 2 etc. can be had for just a little bit more.

The fact that Kingston and shops are still advertising this as a 450mb read/450mb write drive is enough reason to neg as there is an issue with the product.

He negged this deal because it's not a bargain when you factor everything in.

Find a cheaper price or remove the neg.

I can offer everyone the cheapest price for junk I have but it does not make them a good buy.

        I disagree on this.

Sequential performance on SSDs has always been about bragging rights and very limited use cases. If you're actually running a database server or you do a lot of content creation where maximum throughput is needed, then yeah, this makes a difference.

But to say that you would buy a Samsung EVO over this is like saying you'll buy a particular car over the other because it has a higher maximum speed, it's actually not that important.

For people going up from a HDD, this SSD is a massive improvement and I'm willing to bet that in day-to-day use, nobody, not even you, me or any other experienced computer user, would be able to tell the difference between this SSD and an EVO.

I'm talking on experience, I got sucked into all the hype when I bought my RAID0 SSD array, which is ridiculously fast, around 800 MB/s reads, but I notice no difference over my other desktop which has a basic 120GB SSD.

        • I think the issue here is that Kingston swapped to Asynchronous NAND.. which is slower than the advertised 450mbps read write speed

      • +1

Because they are removing the neg and it is only possible by down voting the comment or by reporting to/or a mod.
so if the shop has some "friend" here they don't need downvoting and just report it, otherwise this happens.
NO matter if he is right or wrong but every sneaky store has their gang here, Ozbargain should stop such attitude.
Yours would be negged if it was before making it to the front page.
An example of such a double standard is here!

Really Bad Reviews in Amazon . Even the Manufacturer admitted it by responding to the great review

    http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-2-5-Inch-SV300S37A-12…

Remember Reviews don't lie , except in a very few occasion where the Seller use trickery like BOT to up the rating of the item or Upvote the misleading review (but at the end someone will found out because you can't cover the FACT)

I SSDNow SEE How autocorrect works.

  • Can you do a good deal on the 120GB version?

  • I bought a 60gb v300 with old, good, nand. Ocz from may is better unless you get the505ABBF1 firmware.

  • Been through literally dozens & dozens & dozens of these upgrading 4+ year old standard Desktops in a large office and never had any problems but I admit we had one or two of the 120Gb versions fail. Sure, they may not be the fastest SSDs available but they still sh*t all over the sluggish HDDs they replace and combined with a RAM upgrade to 8Gb they give the old PCs a new lease on life which prevents us from having to replace them for another year or two at least and that of course saves the company thousands & thousands, for the time being anyway ;)

I think there ought to be a class-action against Kingston for "bait & switch", if it hasn't already taken place.

Won't ever buy anything from them ever again— & I have purchased a great deal for my business in the past + referred many others.

Ever since being duped on their SSD's (giving one type to reviewers & then substituting inferior to the public), I have totally sworn off & passed the word any chance I get.

If Kingston regrets it, place a full-page ad in the NY Times, Sydney Herald, etc…& fess-up. Offer to replace the duds- then I'll change my opinion.

Otherwise, Kingston deserve a slow death for being lying & manipulative *ss-hats.

    Imho

  • Forget about the "slowness" compared to other SSDs, would you actually notice the difference when using the computer?
I think this would be a good enough upgrade for people who want to upgrade from a 5400rpm hdd, or even a 7200rpm one.

Refer to my comment above. They may not be the best SSD out there but they still make a huge difference compared to a HDD.

I understand where people are coming from when they say that this is still a good deal and that the drives don't deserve so much criticism… But please remember:

    a) People were buying these for some time before they realised that the NAND had been changed and they hadn't got what the expected. There may have been thousands or tens of thousands of customers who bought this drive expecting one thing and then receiving another. That's enough reason for me to never buy from this manufacturer.

    b) There are deals on SSDs all the time. You can get an SSD that isn't majorly gimped for only $20 bucks more almost all the time. I wouldn't consider paying $10 or $20 less for a drive like this a "saving". I'd say this extra $20 on a superior drive is an investment rather than an expense if you use your computer a lot. The v300 may still be better than a HDD, but for $20 more you can get something much better again.

On the other hand if you don't have an issue with manufacturers doing the dodgy on paying customers and performance doesn't concern you too much, then this is the cheapest deal atm.

PS. Nothing against the retailer here - just the manufacturer

  • For $105 you can get the OCZ one from MSY. MUCH better SSD for the exact same price.

    I own a 120gb Kingston V300 and its terrible.

  • dealing with warehouse1 is a painful process. such bargain basement drop shippers are what we dont want to encourage around here! if anyone still remembers the shower speaker clusterf… you get zero support from a drop shipper
