nokia lumia 530.. unlocked??? In previous deal it was locked with telstra

    • +1

Yeah my bad, although it doesn't say it like the Telstra cruise or the Vodafone alcatel

      • -4

Then I wasted $39.50 on last deal

        • +2

I think it's just a typo in the catalogue, Eveything else has Telstra in front of name bar this

      • +9

Bagman is going to be very busy from next wednesday

    • +3

I got one from last deal but the sim slot was immediately damaged when I inserted the sim card which came from the phone as well. I sent it back to fonebiz for repairing, but they refused to repair it coz they believed it was my fault. They also refused to send it back. I will keep away from all microsoft mobile product as you wont get the warranty and you will lose your phone as well.

      • Damn that's terrible. Who wants to waste money – even $40?!

      • +5

You shoulda gone back to Woolworths (or Big W, if you bought it from there).

There's no way they can simply refer you back to the manufacturer as this is definitely a major fault.

        Illegal in fact.

      • Same problem for my 530 too.I will call Nokia tomorrow to find out more.

      • +2

FoneBiz is used by Samsung, Sony, and a heap of others. They're a pretty f'ing useless company. It's not Microsoft's fault directly but you would be hard pressed getting away from FoneBiz unless you choose Apple.

  • +1

Goodfood gift cards are great value… 20% off degustation at quay is an awesome saving which can be used to pay for getting their paired wines!

  • How much is the unlock fee of the Lumia 530?

    • Bagman charges $15…

      • and for ozbargainers ?

        • That is the price! . You can't get it cheaper

        • @goober:
ANy discount if i mention jv's name

        • +14

@easternculture: probably doesn't want your business if you mention jv. Better don't risk it.

      • Just found out how to contact Bagman. Thank you for the feedback on his services. A lot cheaper than Telstra.

  • +1

    SO CHEAPPP

    Alcatel OneTouch $19.50?
    Telstra Cruise $14.50?

  • +2

Regarding the Lumia 530, try to get one that is made in China and not Vietnam, cos they have a better chance of coming with an SD card.

    • How can you tell if buying from Woolies?

      • It'll say "Made in Vietnam" on the label of the Nokia box.

However, if the Telstra box doesn't say it, it'll come down to luck of the draw.

One thing you could possibly do is simply ask to swap it and try your luck again.

  • Was very interested in the 530, but doesn't sound that good

    • +5

Doesn't have to be at that price

      • But can it run apps properly?

      • +6

Exactly, people are completely unrealistic when it comes to value for money! There is no phone out there for $40 that works as well for the price. Even the yumcha android phones can't compete for usability, reliability, battery use, etc.

…why did I even write this… preaching to deaf ears.

        • +1

Well, because I can save that money and add a bit more to buy something better for it.

        • +4

          @itsfree:
Chuckle.. ya gotta love OzB aye its?

You post a link to a page full of specs/info in case it helps anyone; you get a couple of negs for your trouble.
You ask a perfectly reasonable question about its capacity to run aps; you get negged.
Finally, you respond to goober's apparent frustration by letting him/her know that their post has helped you reach a decision (you thank goober, essentially); you score 4 negs! LOL… this is why I completely ignore negs. Getting a bunch of positives to a comment is nice feedback sometimes, i.e. indicates that peeps agree with you, but re negs, some peeps evidently just dish them out at random!

        • +1

@GnarlyKnuckles: Well said. OzBargain community is unnecessarily harsh at times. Oh well.

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:
I noticed sometimes people misunderstand the comment entirely, because they read too fast and dont think.
Or maybe its just personal choice, like/dislike, which is always good. Neg bacause you can…

    • Some good deals in this list, thanks.

Seems like the 520 is better than the 530:
"Unfortunately, the Lumia 530 has a big flaw that’s apparent the first time you turn it on: its screen."
      http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/10/newer-but-not-better-…

    • +1

I find this phone to run quite well. Everything opens quickly and runs smoothly. I don't usually play games on it but I tried temple run 2 and a racing game and they ran super smooth. It took me by surprise actually. People bitch about the lack of ram on this thing but I think they need to see it in action.

Yes the viewing angles and the contrast on the screen isn't all that great, but then again, it really isn't that bad either.

I've owned a few cheap smartphones over the years and they really run like crap.
I find this phone runs as well as a high end phone, Really worth the $39

      • I have a 630 and the UI is really smooth once you are in an app or navigating the home screen. The only delays occur when switching between apps. There is nothing out there that can compare to the Lumias at the super-low price end of the market.

  • I have both the 520 and 530

Honestly, 520 is so far much better than 530 in terms of design, weight and display.

Unless you with Telstra, I would recommend the 520, on special at HN for $88

    • How well does the 530 run apps?

      • +3

        Very

      • +1

It runs as well as the 520

        • Cheers

    • +2

The 520 is good in some specs but worse in some too, slower processor, slightly less resolution, the 530 can hold 128GB, The 520 can hold 64GB, 530 has IE 11, 520 IE 10 Unless it can be updated?

      • 520 can be updated, 8.1.1 on mine. Hell it will have windows 10 on it according to microsoft :)

Also the camera on the 530 is fixed focus (bad) compared with the 520 which has a normal focus. Both 5MP

      • I think both the 520 and 530 can do 128GB, just not officially for the former.

It's just that when the 520 was released, there weren't any 128GB micro sdxc cards available, and 64GB was the maximum size available at the time.

128GB should theoretically work as they both are formatted as ExFAT.

      • Only plus for 530 against 520 is 54x480 more pixels. Other than that 520 have everything equal to or better than 530.

Dont be deluded by quad core in 530. Its slower processor than 520's dual core despite higher frequency.

However one more plus for 530 here is that it cost less than 40 dollars. For that price its great phone.

    • Really, how? The weight is the same. Agree the display is better slightly, but thats it. I would rather the Quad core Snapdragon CPU in the 530 than the dual core in the 520.
      http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Nokia-Lumia-530,Nok…

    • +1

One big difference between the 520 and 530 is that the 530 will work on Telstra and Optus, whereas the 520 will only properly work on one (depending on version).

      • +1

        Yep, quad band HSPA+.

  • +1

    i had a 530 before i unlocked and gave it away :)

not a bad phone for the elder or kids to bring with them just in case :)

    Great speaker

good OS, great maps like Here

JUST THE SCREEN is bad with view angle and colour

it is something 5 years ago looks better than it

  • For comparison's sake, what's the cheapest Lollipop-capable device? Moto G?

    • +1

Yeah. Or a refurbished Nexus 4 but they are kind of terrible with battery performance.

If you wait a while there may even be Chinese branded phones with lollipop, try Xiaomi for instance. They have a pretty good modding community.

      • +1

Cheers. I asked a few friends whether I should buy it, and they all said to save the money for something else (they recommended a Lollipop device). So I think I'll pass – there's no better way to save money than to not spend it!

        • +1

Get a Nexus 5. You can root it without risking your warranty - the bootloader is unlockable without a code.

Miles better than a Moto G IMO, but costs more obviously.

  • Guys,

I just got my 530 unlocked by bagman. It was a lightning fast service.

If you still after 530 and its unlock code. Here you go..

    Thanks bagman

  • I can recommend bagman…. I got 4 Lumia 530, unlocked from him. Very reliable and fast.

  • +9

Ozbargainers as a whole should negotiate a lower unlock price with Bagman, $10 each?

    • I have 12 phones that I need to be unlocked. So a better price would definitely help!!

    • +2

ALRIGHT, please reply to this message with the following format:

Number) + Ozbargain name or email address + (how many unlock code to buy)
      example: 1) ing siapa (1)
      2) …
to see how many are going to buy locked Lumia and unlock code from Bagman. I or somebody else will then email Bagman with the list and try to get some discount, target is $10 each. NO deadline but asap with at least 20 unlock code to buy?

      • I need 2 handsets unlocked.

      • I need one!

      • Being a tight arse is one thing, but trying to get an already low price even lower is crossing that tight arse line I think.

The $15 unlock from Bagman is already a pretty good deal I think. You can ask Telstra to unlock it for you if you like. They charge $100.

        • -1

It's a bit insulting to Bagman, but I figure what the hell since everyone is pushing for a discount because being tight is in our blood. It's not quite as bad as those idiots on Gumtree that keep trying to discount the price on something down to $0 on something you're selling. He can only say No(which he has already).

        • @wolfenator87:
Ha ha. "He can only say No(which he has already)"

And yet you still persist, like those idiots on Gumtree.

          All the best mate.

    • +2

Bagman stated elsewhere on OzB, that this is the lowest he can do due to his cost.
Anyway if he gave it for $10, you'ld be looking for $5 tommorow wouldnt you? Whereas I'm waiting for a $2 offer as I really don't like the Nokia 610 or 530, and sticking with android in future.

      • -8

Hey, this is the Spirit of Ozbargain anyway! Have you heard about economies of scale?

In Ozbargain, CHEAPER IS BETTER! Right, my fellow Ozbargainers?

You have no right to judge me and others! Who the hell are you?

If you don't like Lumia. Why are you here? Bring your Android* and get out of here! This post is about Lumia 530 and other items from Woolies. Check the title again!

*I am not against Android anyway

  • +2

Oh Bagman, plz find a way to unlock all those Vodafone prepaid Lumia 630s from Dick Smith… if you're reading this at all…

    • I'm not 100% sure if this will work for you, but I have a vodaphone locked phone and I went to the Vodaphone website and it was unlocked in a matter of minutes for free. Might be worth a try

      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

      • How long did you have the phone for before you tried to unlock it? I think it might be free once you own the phone for a year or so?

        • I honestly can't remember how long I had it for but you might be right about owning it for more than a year.

  • Sweet. I will buy 2 phones on Wednesday and unlock.

  • +2

I wonder if it is just 20% off of Giftcards full stop? They do sell Nintendo and Sony cards as well…

    • +1

Can anyone confirm the discount on other cards? my PSN plus membership just ran out and would be good to save a few bucks on renewal!

  • Anyone else keen on the 20% off Xbox Live, or should I be looking somewhere else for better value?.. Lot's of DLC coming up plus makes any digital titles directly off Xbox Live a bit more bearable compared to physical copies, if you swing that way..

  • Great deal for some Xbox credits :)

    • This isn't NzBargain.

      • -1

        Lighten up it's a joke!

        • Oh well, I and everybody else can say "It's a joke! I make a joke!" after saying/doing a mistake or something silly.

Take a note, saying that will not 'repair' your credibility and people won't take you seriously!

        • @ing siapa:

          K buddy.

    • -5

Tried not to laugh on this post… yes perhaps it's even cheaper in Fiji!

This bloke definitely does not think whether the store/seller ships to Au at all, even if it does, is it economical to do so? etc.

      How old are you?

  • -1

Does anybody know any cheap unlocking services? Used to know a few cheap websites but a lot nowadays charge within the $20-50 range.

    • Bagman is cheapest and he is Aussie too… Read comments from similar deal few weeks ago

  • +1

520 has 8 GB built in storage.

530 has 4 GB built in storage.

If you are after a bargain, the 530 for $40 is one.

  • +2

My whiz-bang state-of-the-art Android phone (I adore Android) died, and I sent it back to be repaired or replaced under warranty. In the meantime, I went back to using my previous phone (which I had replaced due to battery issues, but figured would last in a pinch). That also died, on the last day of the previous Lumia 530 deal.

So I bought the 530 to use while I waited for my main phone to come back… and I'm in love with it. You can remove all the Telstra apps/bloatware and I use Boost so it doesn't matter that it's locked to Telstra. There's only one app I use that isn't available on Windows Phone, and it isn't a very important one, so that doesn't bother me.

$39.50 is an absolute steal for a device this good.

    • +1

      Hi aj,

You just wrote what I wondered…

So, a Boost SIM will be accepted & work in this- even if left locked to Telstra? For sure?

I know Telstra owned Boost, but wasn't sure the overlap.

      Ta!

      • +1

I can confirm this. It works with boost without unlocking. It doesn't work with aldi unlocked.

      • It does. Just a head's-up that the 530 takes a micro SIM, though - so if you're already with Boost and have a regular SIM, you need to either contact them and have them send out a micro (which will already have your number attached) or buy a micro SIM pack and transfer your number.

        • +1

          Thanks again, AJ-

I bought the last one at our nearby W. The girl asked if I only wanted one? I said, "why, do most people buy more than one?"—- she said a guy was there that morning & bought two- lol. So I said, sure- gimme another—> she comes back, "yours is the last one". Dammit!

Anyway, thanks about the SIM- I'll contact for the micro.

I have a friend visiting from overseas in Dec. Figured if she needed a temp phone while she's here for whatever reason, I'd activate for the free $10 & top up if required. Then, I'm left with a backup in case my work phone (Sony T2 from OzB deal) dies…

          Cheers

  • Does anyone know if these Woolworths telstra handsets work with Aldi mobile simcards? Thanks.

    • From other comments, nope. Aldi doesn't work without unlocking.

      • Correct.

  • WARNING! THE QUALITY/LONGEVITY OF THE NOKIA 520 IS VERY, VERY LOW, SERIOUSLY LOW!

KEEP THE RECIEPT, YOUR GOING TO NEED TO USE IT AND WHEN WARRANTY RUNS OUT, ITS THE BIN!!

BUT FOR $40 MIGHT GET ONE FOR MUM…

    • +3

      You don't like your mum?

    • How can you say that?
I've been using my 530 as a music streaming device for the past month and it has been fantastic. Are there any known faults? what happened to your device?

    • My Mum has a better phone than I have!!!

    • That's sad to hear about the 520. I quite like my 530, though. :)

  • Off the subject a little have S4 with 64 gb sd.will a 128 card be okay? And can i use my 64 in my Samsung tab 3 (which they say only supports
    up to 32)

  • +9

I bought this phone last month when I saw on Ozbargain that Woolies were selling it for half price because I wanted to try Windows 8.1 and I must admit I'm impressed.
The hardware itself feels a bit cheapo and slippery with the hard plastic back cover but I got a silicone cover and a screen protector for 5 bucks on eBay and it is now fine. It looks like an iphone 3G.
It is surprisingly reactive (way quicker than my iPhone 4) and it didn't take long to get used to the Windows OS.
The GPS is awesome, very quick, with vocal instructions, 3d view of the main buildings and the ability to download maps to use it offline
Battery life is very good as well, it can do 2 full days with moderate usage.
Impressed with the Bing vision feature: point at some text and it will translate it in any language you want. I tried french / english and it was perfect, and my mate tried english to greek and was impressed how accurate it was too!

The screen and the camera are not the best but honestly… $40 bucks, remember?

    • Ugh, the camera. I am happy with really basic phone cameras - I think pics are fine that others complain of as awful and blurry - but even I'm unhappy with the 530 camera. And the back cover? I cannot remove it, even with the instructions. I have to get someone with really long nails to do it for me!

But I rarely take photos or need to remove the battery/replace SIM card/insert an SD card, so these are really non-issues for me.

      • +1

The back cover is easy to remove.

It's your technique that's at fault - no long nails are needed.

What you need to do is put your thumb on the back just below the camera lens, while having three remaining fingernails pushing the edge of coloured back case.

Then push on the back with your thumb while keeping your fingernails in place, and the back will pop right off.

        • Or just drop it :D
