    106$$

Can also buy a external version for 125. Nothing special here guys

This is the "AV" edition. I'm dubious as to the benefits of the AV-GP WD10EVDS edition over the regular GP WD10EADS edition, but it's not the same drive (apparently).

    • +4

hi guys, please note this is not WD10E"A"DS, it's WD10E"V"DS, belongs to WD AV-GP, it's for 24hr applicaitons such as NAS, PVR, media center, more reliable

      • all the same to me… meh..

  • -3

    this isnt cheap at all!

    • We haven't seen the same model listed cheaper. Bare in mind its the WD10EVDS.

  • +1

Massari - The item you have linked to is the WD10EADS. This is the WD10EVDS. There is a big difference in performance

Gaffie - Please can you let us know where you have found cheaper on the same drive.

    • it's cheap, but not that cheap. and the difference is NOT performance or even slower, WD AV is for digital recording.

    • I'm curious as to this big performance difference. I've yet to see a thorough review of the WD10EVDS. Can you link to one?

  • +4

"I believe the main difference between the WD10EVDS and the WD10EADS is that the former is specifically designed for use in AV equipment and therefore has a higher temperature tolerance than the EADS (less likely to fail due to getting too hot within a STB). The EVDS also has "Silkstream" (which supposedly helps provide smooth playback of multiple HD streams), along with "Pre-emptive Wear Levelling", which supposedly reduces wear on the disk surface by sweeping across it (guess it means it avoids just reading and writing to one part of the disk and ensures it uses all of it over time). According to the WD site the EVDS does actually have the same variable speed as the EADS so that would not appear to be a reason to pick one over the other."

lots more info on the two drives here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/sky-hd/1005532-wd10eads-users…

These units are good in STBs with poor ventilation like you mentioned or even in a HTPC / security system.

Cheapest on SI by quite a bit, next cheapest is Shopping Square at $132 + $18 shipping or so.

These guys are $125 + $10 shipping to Sydney. Good deal.

      • Current SI search shows Aust Online VIP as next cheapest @ $132 + $12.50 to Sydney metro; but these guys don't charge for pickup! ;)

  • It's a decent price, yes; but not really a "bargain" as such! Chuck in free shipping though and it moves to the latter category IMHO! ;)

    • +4

Since they charge $5 for pickup, that effectively $130 from the item and $5 for shipping. Dodgy.

      • that IS dodgy and deservers a -ve…

        • +2

What about this is dodgy? we offer a $10 flat rate for shipping to pretty much anywhere in the country, up to a 5KG order. There is no limit on the size of an order for $5 pickup.

When shopping online, a price is a price, not including shipping rates. The price on this item is $125, as listed in this bargain.

You may want to order other items and have other shipping preferences. It is quite standard to list just a price.

Even at the total price of $130, we come in cheaper than the next best, which according to someone else was Shopping Square at $132 (and then there is still there exorbitant shipping rates)…

          • -3

@jmg146: Thats assuming people care about this HD.

The cheep, 99$ 1 TB HD avaliable at most shops is more then enough for every normal user lol

            • +1

@massari: not for my STB, I put a normal HDD in it and it burns up like no tomorrow.

          • +1

@jmg146: Seems like a good deal.

Nice website and pretty good prices considering the shipping costs.

            +1 from me! :)

          • +2

@jmg146: What is dodgy is that you say it's for sale for $125 but it's impossible to by it for $125…

Very dodgy… I refuse to purchase from such dealers, even if the total price is still cheaper.

            • +2

@jv: Agree 100% - advertising it as $125 is misleading.
It's $130 if you pick it up and $135 if you want it delivered.

            • -2

@jv: you buy the HDD for 125. You pay shipping of 10 dollars.

postage and handling is a part of any business, no one else on OzBargain gets complained about for doing exactly the same thing.

              • -1

@[Deactivated]: Thankyou for clarifying quantock. The shipping and handling fees are on a total order. The price of this product is $125. The price of pick up on the whole order is $5.

e.g - If you buy 10 different items all at different prices, the price on this unit will still be $125. The price on picking up all 10 items will still be $5.

          • +3

@jmg146: because i dont see why i have to pay $5 when i waste time, energy and money to pick up an item. I keep seeing shops charge for pickup. They shud give further discounts, cause i had to waste petrol to get there. Its clearly just a way to make up for lost profits from overpriced shipping.

Flat rate shipping is hardly a good thing.

Sure u might save on expensive heavy items, but overall, the rate is calculated so that at the end of the day, you have profited from small things like usb sticks and cables which weigh next to nothing. Ive gotten free shipping from those things and they were sent via normal post, in an a4 envelope with $2 postage stamps.

for larger items, the price of the item accomodates the loss from charging a flat rate of shipping.

shops arent charities, u cant expect us to believe your making a loss unless its depreciated goods. so dont make it sound so generous, riteous or charitable

Ive worked in retail for it products for years, i know how it all works.

I once ordered a monitor from a computer shop which was advertised with free shipping. I also bought a harddrive off of them. I asked for the harddrive to be delivered together in the same container (it didnt cost them extra cause it didnt bring it to the next weight category) they insisted on charging me their "flat rate" shipping on the harddrive. they also said they wud charge me a pickup fee for the hardrive.

Amongst various other excuses one of them was that i am "saving overall because the monitor shipping was free". i bought from another shop that allowed free pickup and their sale price was more than the first shops with free delievery, but it was cheaper overall because of no retarded surcharges.

            • @furythree: I can see the vein bulging out of your head!

It's cheaper then the same modes available elsewhere or listed on staticice, thus making it a bargain.

              • @Koonit: It's only cheaper by two bucks, that merely makes it competitive, not a dead-set bargain! ;)

  • Not a bargain at all

  • +4

Agree W.T.F. is this new trend to charge people (in this case $5) to walk into their freaking shop and make a purchase?
    Would avoid this on principle.

    • Yep, I'm 110% with you guys on this one, charging customers to go to their place of business and trade with them is abhorrent, and should be globally boycotted purely on principle!

The shipping on the other hand is fairly priced, making this reasonable, but not a bargain by any means! ;)

MSY sells this drive for $149 Even at $130 it's a cheap. I just wish the special was on for a little longer (looking to buy 2 of these drives in a fortnight)

    • +1

Why are MSY continually held up as the "gold standard" in prices? :?

Their halcyon days of being automatically the cheapest are long gone I'm afraid! Yeah they're competitive on many things, but they're not always the cheapest on all!

The lowest price on Staticice is $132.00, MSY isn't even on the first page of results for this model! It's a fair price, but not a bargain!

  • -2

Store that charge for pick up the good at their shop is not acceptable.
To tell the true… I never saw any bargain from this store…so why bother to post it on here.
At this price it's hardly bargain… eljomedia just want free advertise.

  • +1

Good price, good drive, and while I find the $5 charge for pickup a bit off putting, the $10 shipping is nice. Definitely a +ve for me.

As an online store, we do not have to offer pick up at all. The prime reason we offer pick up is for the extra convenience for those people who do not want to wait for the item to be shipped. It a service that we offer in addition to our regular shipping methods, and for that we have always until now felt we had the right to charge for it to be implemented. We do not have a traditional shop front premises. As such, there is an extra cost incurred in setting up and maintaining the processes for pick up. This is why we charge for the service.

Having said all this, your feedback will be taken on board and discussed at a scheduled management meeting on Wednesday afternoon. We have not in any other forum until now received such criticism, however we do appreciate the opinion of our customers. The policy will therefor be reviewed and we will notify you of any changes as they become apparent.

    Keep the comments coming.

    • +1

"As an online store, we do not have to offer pick up at all. "

Fair enough, but bear in mind, as consumers, we do not have to shop with you at all either! ;)

    • +2

It's good to know that these complaints will be duly noted; that can only improve your customers' goodwill towards you.

The crux of the issue, as voiced by many here, is that the advertised price for a product being picked up—wherein the onus and cost of retrieval is on the customer—should be the lowest price for which it can be acquired from the retailer.

Many on this site are very wary of aforementioned exorbitant delivery prices and, as with pickup fee, will take that into account and vote/opine negatively on principle alone, regardless of the actual bargain. And it's not just delivery/pickup costs, but dodgy business practices in general; we're a critical lot—makes us good bargain hunters!

      • We do agree with you that there should be a reduced rate if the customer is going to go to the trouble of picking up the item. That is why we currently offer our pick up option at $5 whilst shipping would cost $10. This means that picking up the item from us is indeed the cheapest alternative.

  • +3

I would like to add my negative view of this business practice. While $130 picked up or $135 delivered may be fine, it can not be purchased for the listed price of $125. I consider this to be misleading and highlights a management attitude that I would prefer not to support.

After consideration of everything that has been said on this post, we have decided to run with your recommendation of FREE pick up, store wide.

From now on, Eljo Media Solutions will be offering free pick up on any order.

To allow you to make the most of this on this special sale, we have extended it until midnight Sunday (04/10/09).

Now, the WD10EVDS really is available for $125 if you come and pick it up from our St Kilda, Melbourne location. Of course, you can also make the most of our low $10 flat rate shipping (via secure courier service) if you cant make it in.

We do appreciate your feedback and will always implement changes where possible.

    • Great stuff mate. I won't be snatching this offer, but I'll definitely consider you when I look for a Networked Media Tank in the near future.

Coincidentally, through having this conversation I found out you were located at Southbank, so pick-up is an even more attractive option now.

  • Very near Southbank anyway. In St Kilda. I do remind you that pick up is by appointment. Place an order and a staff member will contact you to arrange a time once the goods are ready. Have a great weekend.
