please do not come in to any emergency department anywhere wearing this device (or any other BP device for that matter) pushing the button every 5 minutes, freaking out to the triage nurse saying that your blood pressure is going up and needs to be treated immediately…

you may laugh - but they live among us!

(if anyone is wondering what the cure for for this critical condition is…. a swift blow with a hammer!!! - to the blood pressure machine that is)

    • So, erm, doktor, do you meant that these devices are a waste of time? ANd here I was thinking I could just buy this or an Omron and self-monitor… :-(

    • I don't know, but the only thing I can think of that would trigger panic is if one of the readings were above the normal limits. i.e. pre-hypertension.

The person would panic because their readings are quite high, meaning there is a problem, but yeah, it doesn't need to be treated immediately. Nevertheless, there usually still is an underlying problem that needs to be managed.

If a person has a family history of high blood pressure, the patient would rightly be fearful of their first signs. Enough to drive some insane. ;-(

People with common sense can (and do, and when necessary, should) use these to self-monitor. Or would you rather have them call the ambos whenever they feel a hot flush and/or headache?

In Europe (certainly in Eastern Europe) these devices are so common, almost every household has at least one and GPs regularly ask patients with (pre-)hyper/hypotension to keep their own diary. It helps GPs immensely to have a proper history, just take the device to your GP once to check the accuracy.

Those who push the button every 5 minutes are hopefully on a mental health care plan, whether it's due to GAD or hypochondria.

Regarding this offer, I usually recommend Omron, but these might be good to, hopefully someone here has some experience with this brand.

  • My cousin buys locally and claims back on health insurance… 100% back on most cover. Up to $150 usually.
Takes around 3-5 years to replenish the amount, so you can claim again, but the device should have quite a long lifespan.

I have this unit also from Amazon about 13 months ago. Works flawlessly and seems consistent. Have had to replace batteries once so its not too power hungry kike cheaper no name ones on ebay.

Agree. Easy to use and reliable unit

  • Price gone back to $50 and no longer ships overseas. Amazon like to do this when stock levels get low.
