No SSD today as we've just done them over the weekend. Are you looking for any particular brand? We will still have SSD sale in upcoming weeks.

        Samsung 840 Evos, 500GB, 1TB. Please :)

        • Hey is there much performance difference between 840 EVOs and PROs? Not too well educated on SSDs.

        • @deanylev:
There is a speed difference in favour of the pros but you probably only notice in a professional workstation for rendering etc..

        • 240 gb have the best performance and should be efficient enough for any OS + daily software use.
Putting games and movies and SSD doesn't make a big difference and doesn't make sense at all.
Why would you need 500 GB/ 1 TB?

        • +3

          @rodinthink:

Putting games on a SSD is a massive plus. Helps with loading speeds. With movies I agree

        • @Dezeption:

I might agree with your POV there , especially for game which you play FREQUENTLY (Dota 2 ,Guildwars2,CS Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2). BUT movies , that doesnt make sense at all.
You can install and uninstall the game if you're on budget. But if you're not , you can buy 1 TB of SSD and do whatever you want

Exception: Battlefield 4,Photoshop,MS Office has a MASSIVE difference in loading times on an SSD. Most software only have a litte difference

More than 10% off on 500GB Samsung Evo 840s? ;)

      • Hey ShoppingExpress Store Rep, sorry to post it here. Could you please spend more time in customer service besides making great offers everyday? It has been almost 48 hours and you have not gave me any reply for my complain yet. You send me a $700 defective monitor in a bloody box that have been opened before. Shall I contact ACCC directly?

        • Hi maxdba,

Have you receive a reply from us before or it's the first? Can you PM me your ticket ID?

Oh.. I thought it had a better sensor or have I got the wrong model? http://www.razerzone.com/au-en/store/razer-deathadder-chroma
It lists 10,000 DPI (but honestly who needs that…).

        • +1

Not necessarily better, performance worse at higher DPI (interpolation).
Chroma has higher DPI but both using the same sensor (Avago S3988).

        • +2

@Pledge: Ah, didn't know that. Thanks.
EDIT: Razer has clarified to us that early batches had Avago 3989 sensors with 3988 marking, but regardless, all DeathAdder Chroma mice have the 3989 which tracks 10,000 dpi natively.)

  • Hi Rep, I know it's sold out but I saw that you have the ASUS Strix GTX 970 priced at $549 which still seems steep compared to MSY and NewEgg. Any chance you can beat their prices when you get stock back in?

    • +1

any reason why you want the asus one over competitors?

      • I've read reviews and forums and feel pretty settled on my choice, especially in context of my budget and the performance I'm seeking. From a personal perspective, my experiences with other manufacturers have helped to form a bias in favour of ASUS. I'd be happy to consider other options but the ASUS Strix is certainly at the forefront for me.

    • +1

At the moment, i believe there is a shortage of this card in Australia so i don't think we can do as good price as the other GTX 970 offered today. Please also keep in mind weak AUD means new Asus cards should cost even more.

the msi gtx 970 is awesome guys, i HIGHLY recommend it. i'm running 2 on sli atm and its awesome.

then again, i upgraded from a gtx750, so it's quite a leap for me

    • Me to, feels like a massive leap coming from any card I believe… <30°c idle temps :)

    • What do you do with 2 of these?

      • Run more than one monitor? 1440p or 1600p? 4k even. The possibilities are endless.

      • prepping for 4k after dell releases their new 27" IPS 4K monitor

        although i think i might need a 3rd one

        • well you seem pretty experienced, is it worth the extra or should i just get the gigabyte?

        • @matty718: i assume you mean the windforce OC one. never looked at it. see if there are any reviews on it and compare.

for the gb gaming vs msi gaming, i went msi for being less power hungry, and not as long lengthwise. the performance difference are not going to be noticeable at all when you are gaming.

  • +6

Great deal on the R9 290X!

    • Yep, just picked one up! I just hope it's not plagued with problems. Heard alot of people have had issues with the gigabyte 200 range. Although I'm willing to deal it on the RMA's etc since it's such a good deal.

    • -3

I'm regretting my r9 290 purchase the AMD drivers just can't compete with Nivida Gameworks. I feel like I am a second class citizen with this card and I've only had it a few months. Thinking of trading it in. AC Unity is unplayable on it, Evil Within was a mess.

      • +2

Ahhh AC:Unity runs like shit on every card, It's one of the most poorly optimized games I've seen in a very long time.

You cant even get 60 fps on max settings with sli gtx 980's, in fact it drops below 30 frequently. Go watch totalbiscuits video on it.

      • +2

Both poorly optimised games. However I ran Evil Within on max settings with a 7970 and didn't encounter any problems. Both pre and post patch.

        • It's a given that both games were porly optimised, but considering I'm on AMD's flagship card that's not even 6 months old I do not expect to have a game like Unity "unplayable" after 3 patches have been released. The equivalent Nvidia solution runs the game a lot better, totalbiscuits video runs the game noticably better than my system (plenty of Nvidia users are happily playing the game over 30fps). I'm getting sub 20fps in crowds with Unity, and trust me it's unplayable perfomance wise (not even talking about all the bugs). And this is on medium! Ultra settings is a slideshow. A lot of this pain is due to Nvidia's Gameworks solution which is making AMD cards second class citizens due to relying on custom Nvidia APIs. If Mantle was more widely supported I guess it wouldn't be an issue, but thats not how things have played out this year.

My cores were getting parked in Evil Within, just figured it out last night, ran a utility to stop them parking and the juddering disappeared. I also had dramas with Watch Dogs which required quite a few patches and an updated AMD driver to eventually fix.

Anyway..my advice to others would be go with Nvidia if you are buying a graphics card they have had a better year.

  • What does the giga GTX 970 G1 have over the WF model? Any real reason to spring the extra?

    • +1

Well they both use windforce x3 the G1 has a higher clock speed and also has a backplate, pretty sure no other differences to the OC

    • +2

      yes. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2288234&p…

tldr: Better clocks, better cooling, metal shroud & a backplate

I honestly don't see any reason to get the WF model if you're spending that much on a card anyway.

I really wouldn't recommend the AMDs over the new Nvidias.

I have an r290 that I got on a really good deal. However, with each passing day I am unhappy with the heat output and power consumption of the thing.

It would idle at 50+C at 25C room temperature.

Watching Twitch.tv stream on "high" setting making the card heat up to 75+C

Playing a game that pushes the card makes the card heat up to 90+C

Of course this is on a custom fan setting that takes it to within tolerable sound levels (ie. fan at 50% at 90C). Yes, it is still loud at 50%. No, setting the fan speed higher does not make a significant difference to temperatures (from my experience it's around 2-3 C) but makes it sound like you have an airplane next to you.

I admit the card being reference may exaggerate the heating problem a little. However, from the reviews I've seen, even custom coolers cannot bring the card to lower than 80C at load whereas the 970 gets around 63C at load.

For a difference of $50-80 I think the 970 is more than worth the extra.

    • "I admit the card being reference may exaggerate the heating problem a little."

The windforce coolers on the gigabyte models significantly reduce the temps compared to reference. Most tests I've seen are mid-high 70C. It's also significantly quieter too judging from what I've read. The performance of this is leaps and bounds better than the reference, so not even sure why you would bring it up since it's irrelevant to these cards. If you don't believe me feel free to google "gigabyte 290x review". See for yourself.

I was looking at getting a g1 gaming for $500 locally and this 290x was $390 with postage. $110 saving sounds pretty good to me. Also gives me fantastic resale potential if I want to upgrade to the rumored 380/390 coming out early next year.

In fact I could probably sell this for net profit right now on ebay new in box if I really wanted to lol.

      • +1

The point of my post was to point out that it is totally worth going for the 970 for a little bit extra. I am well aware that the AMD cards are more performance per dollar in this particular deal. But a purchase is not always weighed on performance alone as it is not a one use/one dimensional only product. The buyer will have this card sitting in his computer for a long time (even longer if the $50-80 became a deciding factor because those are the people who cannot upgrade very often due to budget). Over time the advantages of the 970 FAR outweigh the initial extra money put in to the card. Things such as low heat output for the fast approaching summer and lower power consumption which equates to less money on bills really makes this a no brainer.

Also gives me fantastic resale potential if I want to upgrade to the rumored 380/390 coming out early next year.

Uh, I don't see what the card you plan to upgrade to later has anything to do with the resale value of your current card. The 970 will be preferred for people looking at second hand cards later because it's newer and runs cooler in the first place (hence will most likely have more resale value).

In fact I could probably sell this for net profit right now on ebay new in box if I really wanted to lol.

No, no you couldn't. If you sell it unopened right now maybe you'll get your money back after all the fees.

        • Where are you getting this $50-$80 from? Most people go for the msi, ausus or the gigabyte OC versions which is $100+ more.

I can apply that to any card I buy, obviously if I spend an extra $100 the card is going to be better.

Also I said NEW IN BOX in terms if I wanted to resell it right now.

        • @yanni1:

          Gigabyte GTX 970 WF3 OC - $429 + Shipping

          That's $50 more than the 290x and $80 more than the 290.

I can apply that to any card I buy, obviously if I spend an extra $100 the card is going to be better.

You are still missing my point. The 970 is MORE THAN $50-80 of a better buy in the long run.

And I even forgot the mention the free new release game from the "Pick Your Path" Free Game promotion redeemable via Gigabyte. There's at LEAST $50 value in that (If you don't like the game you can sell it for at least that much on release).

Also I said NEW IN BOX in terms if I wanted to resell it right now.

Yes that is what I meant by unopened. Show me a sale (not one that's being listed and nobody is buying) of a 290x that is above $435 ($400 shipped here + $20 ebay fee + $15 postage). If you're saying you'll make a profit, you'll have to sell it higher than that too.
