For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

    • Where is a 7700 available for $126? Beating every previous deal? It would make the perfect first deal for you.

Not posted on ozb, but I browse enough Ali to have seen it near $144

        • +12

That must be in USD. Otherwise provide links.

        • +3

Then post is as a deal.

    • +7

That won't work in AM4 mate.

  • Is there any cheap motherboards to go with this cpu?

    • +6

If you're buying a new MB with this, you should really consider getting AM5 instead. This is really only a deal for those already invested in AM4.

https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005007995293076.html I think ~120 is the lowest the 8400f has been, similar performance compared to the 5700x

        • 8400f is crap, half the cache and 2 less cores than the 5700x and the AM5 motherboard/RAM would be more expensive.

          • @commiewealth: Still one of the cheapest ways to get onto the AM5 platform though, so if that's too expensive then it suggests that the "just get AM5" idea doesn't necessarily hold up well if the buyer's budget is tight.

      • Depends.

I really just want it for a home server, I had a 9700t (which is 35w and less power, so in an ideal world I'd use this) but finding a 5-7 year old board to support that is the same price as a suitable AM4 board which gives me more options for more cores later on if I decide to.

I can reuse existing DDR4 and/or cheap used set vs needing expensive DDR5 and an expensive AM5 board.

If you've got a board you can get used / cheap then it's still valid. Obviously an AM5 board, CPU and RAM is better but then you're spending about double. (CPU is about $80 more, RAM is $200 as opposed to $90 on sale and board is about $80-100 more).

I reckon checkout the motherboard on amazon

      msi b550 tomahawk

  • +1

I just installed mine 10 minutes ago, bought from this deal.

    • is it a legit 5700X?

      • Of course.

      • Absolutely! It doesn't come with a cooler, but you can potentially reuse your old cooler (with new thermal paste) if you're already on AM4 chipset.

  • Do you see any good "G" based processors for a good price? Been running my 1700 in my homelab/NAS for a while now but considering an integrated GPU based chip. I see a 5700G for 104USD

    • +1

What do you use the integrated graphics for? When I decided to build a nas a few years ago, I invested in Intel coz all the knowledge base said intel quicksync was the way to go.

      • I already have an AM4 mobo so would like to keep on it as long as I can. Just trying to be slightly more power efficient

        • undervolt the cpu

          • @gizmomelb: done but the discrete gpu is required to boot right?

edit: seems to boot without one and can rdp in

but wont be able to transcode now right?

  • Any good deals on the 7500f or 7600?

  • Is this worth it coming from a 3900x or nah?

    • Are you able to make a profit selling 3900X?

  • Do you trust the Chinese?

    • +2

It's quite hard to live if you don't get anything China.

  • +1

    On sale again slightly cheaper.

    • Thanks
