So depending on your payment method you may want to compare when booking flights. There are also some sites where you can collect cashback, which will also change the equation. Additionally, by buying with say an AMEX with travel insurance built in, that may save you from purchasing additional travel insurance.

  • Was hoping to fly into Auckland and also visit Wellington, but cost of airfare is higher flying out of Wellington.
Worthwhile flying in and out of Auckland and taking road trip to Wellington? Or is it just cheaper to pay the higher fare out of Wellington?

It depends how long you are going for & what you want to see. Personally, I would definitely do it.

I travelled to Auckland years ago & spent 2 weeks driving around the North island - flying in & out of Auckland. Each of the places was an easy distance(just a few few hours) so it wasn't like you had a 5 hour drive between places-of-interest.

  • Damn, the prices seem to have gone up!
