pretty good price for this phone spec with that large battery =O

    • +2

      +1 (maybe)

Do we know - from experience, here, on OzB - about the brand?

Has anyone been closer to it than its Spec's to use/test it?

      • i have something with pretty much the same specs.

        I've got a Doogee Valencia DG800.
        That came out this May.

So far it runs really well. Smooth operation. Can play games/video well and browse sites easily with no lag.
Only con is battery could be a bit longer lasting.
And gps would be a little more accurate.

I purchased the THL 5000 about 5 months ago, after previously owning the THL W300, and I believe this brand stands out amongst the Chinese smartphone market.

The THL5000/4000 are quite similar in terms of build quality and battery which are both stellar on the 5. The Gorrilla Glass 3 has taken a good number of drops well and I am consistently getting 4 days off a full charge with moderate usage (no games/long video). THL appear to be quite frequent and prompt (for chinaphones) with software updates, with a smooth Android 4.4 rom running out of the box. But there are some pre-installed tools and ads which do get mildly annoying which installing a custom rom has sorted out.

For this price I would definitely recommend grabbing this phone, particularly if you want a reliable phone and aren't too fussed with zippy performance. Given the lower specs and battery size I could see 7+ days being reasonable with mod use. This and the cell frequencies supported would make this an ideal phone for travelling too.

    Looks nice from this vid

    • May be an older model…? (The SIM card looks large = older "standard" size)

Batter is pretty big, too, as you might expect.

    • Have you received & tested the THL T6s, yet?

      • +1

I paid AUD$83 including postage. It's just as good spec wise as my old Samsung S3. It is worth every cent. I will probably upgrade to a new phone in 6 months. The THL T6 Pro just came out

        • +1

I've got this newer THL T6 Pro and am pretty satisfied with it. The only wish is that the battery lasted longer. I've even written a review for it in Russian and these days am planning to write an English version and post somewhere for international users to see.
I can say that this THL brand seems to be a good option among Chinese manufacturers, and this THL 4000 model has such a decent battery.

  • If this gets updated to 5.0, then it's a better deal than Moto E. If not, it's arguable.

    • I'm not sure as for it's hardware capabilities compared to Moto E, but seems it has a bit better CPU, and at the same time the battery is 2 times of Moto's capacity.

  • 4.7'' IPS qHD (960 x 540) Screen;

that sure isnt 'qhd' quality unless the q stands for 'quite low'

    • +9

      According to Google:
"qHD became common on higher end smartphones as well as the Playstation Vita in 2011. Specified as 960x540 pixels at a 16x9 aspect ratio, qHD is one-quarter full high definition or 1080p's 1920 x1080 resolution.
QHD is specified as 2560x1440 pixels at a16x9 aspect ratio, four times that of 720p standard high definition. Ultra wide QHD boosts the horizontal pixels to 3440 for a 21x9 aspect ratio."
Am I wrong? I noticed some people confuse what qHD and QHD stand for and what is the difference.

      • thanks for the info…
        learn something every day :)

    • +6

The "q" means quarter. qHD means Quarter HD.

      A 960 x 540 display has 518400 pixels.
      A 1920 x 1080 display has 2073600 pixels.
      A 3840 x 2160 display has 8294400 pixels.

QHD (note, capital Q) means Quad, so it is four times the size of 1080p.

        learn something every day :)

though I'm sure whichever marketing genius came up with that abbreviation, I'm sure they were aiming for confusion between QHD and qHD

      • That's wrong. 4x size of 1080p is 4K. QHD (Quad HD) is 4x size of 720p.

        • Ya, my bad.

          UHD should be 3840 x 2160
          4K should be 4096 x 2160

  • I have a THL W100 and I'm happy with it apart from battery size and 3G regional Optus capability. This one seems to solve both problems.

    • I have one but the camera shat it

      • +2

The cameras that THL put into their phones are dodgy. I've heard at least 8 different cases where THL mobiles (of varying models) have cameras that fail.

I got my phone replaced by Deal Extreme, luckily enough DX actually has a return address in Sydney and I didn't have to ship it overseas. The return postage was also reimbursed.

  • +1

1gb of ram kills the deal for me.

If you are playing a game and get a email and go to check it and return to the app you will have lost progress and it will load from the start again, the same goes for web pages etc. If you are browsing then go to use another app then back to the browser again then it will have to reload every tab, that sucks if you were writing something (like a reply in a forum) and went to check a message or email etc.

Also I'm a bit suspicious of the 4000mAh battery, I'd expect it to be a lot thicker.

    • Yes sometimes 1GB isn't enough, but it depends on the way you use your phone. I'm using my phone (also with 1GB) for browsing, sometimes watching video and of course making calls. For this purposes this amount is more than enough. For gaming I use a tablet.
I believe this model is for such people like me, who aren't expecting the best specs, but the long battery life.

      • Currently I am using a Moto G because the battery life in my Nexus 4 isn't enough, the Moto G only has 1gb of ram too and it gets annoying sometimes but its better than a phone that has a flat battery by the middle of the day.

My next phone I want something with with at least 2gb of ram and big battery but something like the Droid Turbo (3gb ram, 3900mAh) costs a small fortune.

        • Yes, everything depends on the money one is willing to spend on the phone. If I had a big spare sum I'd also would look for something like Moto Droid :)
But for it's cost this THL should be a good choise.

        • @Libria:
Thinking about it more I'm tempted for the runtime alone but cant find much information on it at all, the "reviews" are pretty much just stating the manufacturer specs and nothing else.

    • what games does this happen with

      • Every game, for example Plague Inc. was the most recent, I was playing the other day and it happened when I went to check something on my browser and went back to the game just for the game to reload from the start.

I did have more games on there but deleted them all due to being annoyed at losing progress when I forget I cant check email or instant messages without losing all progress.

    • I have the THL 5000 and I am confident that it's very close the advertised capacity. I consistently get 4 days with moderate usage (no games/long video) from a full charge, this is with a FHD screen and 2Ghz octacore processor. Very impressed with how thin it is but the advertised thickness might be to the bezel edge, which is slightly thinner.

I have used thl w100 almost 1 year. Speaker getting soft but that's probably from several nasty drops.

GPS is the real deal here. Lock in 5 seconds average ! Mustbtweak it first (no root) just built in tweak. Awesome stuff.

  • Thinking about getting it but by the time its likely to get here (2mths?) something better might be out and around we go again.

    • Why do you think it will take like 2 months to ship? I usually receive my parcels send by free shipping China air mail from different shops in 2-3 weeks maximum, and I'm from Ukraine :)

      • based on past history and the time of year.

  • Does anyone know if it is Dualsim ?

On the Gearbest website it says it is dual sim , but looking at some video reviews on youtube it looks like only one sim slot.

    • +1

The SIM's may be stacked atop of each other, that's why you may only see one.

  • Great price for $103.35 AUD
    Battery is ridiculously big!

  • I came across this site while searching THL 4000 it is listed at $70.99 usd

    http://www.mionbuy.com/advanced_search_result.html?keyword=t…

All the phones seem a lot cheaper than other sites , so the chances are it is a scam sote.

Has anyone ever heard of it before ?

    • I get AU$87.37 delivered at mionbuy. I very much doubt it is a scam site despite the ridiculous WOT scamadviser warning. Where is the risk? You pay by Paypal and if it's a scam you are refunded.
