  • Whoops, Plz remove.

I just ordered one of these - looks like a great deal.

The ability to use h.265 is good too because this can deliver video at half the bandwidth.

    cheers Peter

  • Mine overheated after not much use - get a chromecast, way more stable.

    • Not impessive:-(
      Did you buy the item?

      • Got it from geekbuying some time ago. I did install custom firmware so cant blame them for the overheat (It may have been the custom firmware pushing it too hard), but after getting a chromecast I find it so much more refined and just works out of the box. Wouldnt recommend this when the chomecast is so little extra.

Edit: Actually I dont think mine was the plus model, but I would still stick with the retail polished and supported product over this.

I haven't had any overheating issues on the MK808B Plus or even the original MK808B. The Amlogic M805 chip runs much cooler - I was hammering mine with Dead Trigger 2 and it was only warm.

    • but this can do a lot more than a chromecast
      - chromecast can only mirror.
this can actually store video files and browse the net
this equivalent would be the nexus player

I had a chance to review the device here http://hometheatrelife.com/mk808b-plus-review/

    • Hey are there any good android apps to use a phone as a remote for these, or should I invest in a dedicated remote? If so, do you recommend one?

      • +3

Your best bet would probably be Droidmote (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videomap.d…) as this will let you do everything including touchscreen gaming using an Android phone. I've also got a Measy RC11 air mouse that I use (imagine a Wiimote styled mouse/keyboard hybrid) although I'm waiting on a new device which i'll be reviewing this week which will hopefully be even better!

      • I suggest buying a (fake) PS3 controller and the Sixaxis controller app. Let's you use your PS3 controller as a mouse, remote, or gamepad (I have set up the "select" button to act as a switch between the three). I have an "air" (gyroscope) mouse and a IR remote and neither of them come close to the PS3 controller.

      • I have this and two more android box.your best bet is to download rk remote control app for android.search on geek buying. This app works out of box also u can use your android phone to play some games as it has game pad too.

Interested to hear other comments on this & similar.
Edit: Thanks Darkscythe, just read your review, just what I was after!

Glad you liked it. If there is any other questions, let me know

  • Is this device capable of playing an rtsp stream? From an IP camera?

    • +1

Assuming the codec the camera uses is supported, I can't see why not. Unfortunately, I don't have an IP camera to test. My understanding is that its usually MPEG2 or MPEG4 which this handles.

You can download apps from play store and I believe there are many apps which do same. Something like rxcampro

  • Does anybody have any idea how well it handles miracast ? Particularly from a Nexus 5 or 2013 nexus 7 ?

Also, does it need to be connected to an wifi accesspoint to act as a miracast reciever ?

    • +1

It handles Miracast well - tested from an S4. Definitely needs to be connected to wifi though. As soon as I turned wifi off, down the connection went.

      • Ah, thanks for the fast reply.

  • Gearbest is selling this for $29.99 with the coupon MK808BLM, as per Darkscythe's link.

    • Oh drat, I just bought and paid for it off geekbuying :-/

      • +2

It's okay, Geekbuying is probably the better choice. Gearbest would probably dispatch it in 3 months from now -_-

      • I also bought mine from Geekbuying as they were the first to sell it. Came very quickly

    • I also read in the latest deals comments from users for Gerbest on this site, that they tend to be not the best choise now among the shops. They sometimes put low prices, but their shipping and service leaves to wish to be better.

  • Keep in mind that this device is fine for general Android use … but I think if you are wanting to use it as a 1080p MKV media player with smooth playback, you are likely to be disappointed.

Why? The specs should be able to handle it?

  • How is the total processing + Shipping time to Perth, WA?

    • I can only answer, that the shipping to Ukraine takes like 10-14 days starting from the order placement time, received several parcels from them via free airmail. I think it shouldn't be much different to Australia and maybe even faster.

      • Ukraine seriously? Isn't this an Aussie site or am I too colloquial for this age.

  • Notice for all, who was interested in Xiaomi Bundles deals!
The moderation of the site removed the post for some reason of exceeding the posting limit per week from the shop. I'm not sure why, when I created that post there wasn't any notice that the shop posts have reached limit…

Big sorry for that! The deal is active still. Maybe I can post something next week.
As for all your inqueries for other Xiaomi bundles and coupons, I have an answer from the shop: they will consider all the comments and surely make some more bundle deals in future. For now all you can contact the shop by using email [email protected] and leave your inqueries, and also get some coupons for the products you like.
