  • Include the postage cost in your description. It's $30 to most (all?) areas.

    Discount also works on http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-agora-netbook-pro/.

    • Thanks Afurotsu, just added to title and in the details ;)

    • Doesn't any more, discount on the pro is now only $6.99

Just confirmed in chat, ONly the NON-pro is discounted

  • Looks good for the price , anyone know if these are reliable and how the warranty is ?

    • 1 yr warranty….

  • +2

    discount works on everything

    • OMG - that is amazing. Well done mudguppy!!!

I just purchased the WiFi Digital Radio for $85.25 delivered. I almost purchased it for $169 plus delivery last week.

    • this must be a stuff up……..

      • Bad, you can get items like a Battery for -$35.

  • …..and what's the code please?

    • It's up below the title, but here it is again ;)

      NEWSLTR093

  • reviews are somewhat unconvincing, (even the ones linked to on the kogan site)……….most had wireless issues

  • Lol - wireless 8" photo frame delivered for $43 ;-)

  • gOS is nice, but if you want to use Windows XP/7, you're gonna have to shell out for your own copy of if you want to use it because it's not included. That alone, can lift the price back up to the $450 range. Might want to take this into account before buying if you don't want to use gOS.

    • It's still great for us who get our software through "other" means.

  • +1

    5m hdmi cable -$76

  • Wow. Blu-ray player with BD-live for under 200 bucks delivered.

    • doesn't work with the Blu-ray player.

  • lololol .. gift card $101 for a buck …. definitely a stuff up … figure if they charge the buck to my cred card I might be in with a chance (similar to Oroton stuff up)…

  • This is my opinion only but probably better off spending a little bit more and getting a nebook from acer, msi or asus. current price for this is $330, for about $400 - $430 can get a netbook with 6 cells battery, windows xp, bluetooth and 1 year warranty from a large company. 3 cell battery wont last for long, 1-2 hours max depending on usage

    • Order the 6 cell battery seperately … for -'ve $$$$ ;-)

  • I have received my confirmation of the order and payment for the WiFi Digital Radio with $100 discount!!!

  • I can confirm the cc been debited for a buck … good luck kogan with this one….

  • It can also be used for $100 gift vouchers for later use! stock up!

  • +1

I hope people don't go whinging and complain when they refund the $1 gift cards. Its obvious the voucher code is being exploited.

    • Of course not … its just fun seeing if they will honor them … I know oroton did with the %50 off recently for those lucky enough to jump on quickly enough.

I'd be happy if they honored the purchases though…

And they still havent taken down the website!?!?!?

  • +2

Just received this email from them.

"The discount code you have used is only valid for our Agora Netbook. If you would like to purchase the digital radio I will need to charge your card an additional $100 or alternatively I can process a full refund. Please let me know?

    Kindest Regards,
    Dan"

  • +1

    ooohhh, I smell a 'dell'

    • +1

From memory Dell backed out of most of the sales as they had not processed the payment (happy to be corrected here) whereas Kogan have processed the payment and sent confirmation.

  • yep, you've been delled

  • It's not working anymore guys.

  • A shame the discount has been removed for the Agora Pro.
I was going to get one!

  • Glad I read the last few comments. Pretty silly on their behalf, to allow it to happen in the first place.

  • edit:

The code still works for the normal one (confirmed not working on other items).

    • Original netbook deal still valid…..

      • yes

  • not working except with netbooks

  • Just got this email

As per our newsletter, the discount code you have used is only valid for the Kogan Agora Netbook. If you would like to continue with your purchase we will need to charge an additional $100 to your credit card. Alternatively we can process a full refund. Please let us know?

    • +2

      um haven't you already purchased?

      offer was made…..accepted,
      payment offered…. accepted,
      money taken,
      invoice generated……

      isn't that a complete purchase?

      • -1

By Law, you could argue that their has been a contract formed here, offer made, consideration given and acceptance via confirmation e-mail. Thus a law binding contract.

      • +2

The concepts that apply here like "invitation to treat", "offer" and "acceptance" haven't been clarified in the highly automated online context. There have been conflicting views given when Fair Trading or the ACCC have been asked for comment.

Never come across a verified case of someone taking an online pricing error dispute to a tribunal/court after their order was rejected, which tends to indicate the retailers are on firm ground.

        • -1

Not really, it just means that no1 can b bothered going through the hassles of taking an online retailer for a small amount. You would have strong grounds to base an argument on though

  • "As per our newsletter, the discount code you have used is only valid for the Kogan Agora Netbook. The $1 you have been charged has been refunded to your credit card."

    Boo!!!

    • +3

So if you didn't ask for the refund, does that mean they've given you a $1 gratuity? Because, unless both parties agree I'm sure they can't just cancel your order.

Doesn't do a lot of good for an emerging brand. Next they'll be marketing Vegemite. ;)

  • Now it gets interesting………….

It's a shame all this has distracted from the original bargain.

  • +2

I think their response could have been better. At least put the word 'sorry' in it somewhere, since it was them who stuffed up the voucher.

  • +1

Now this from Kogan in an email:

"I have refunded this transaction and the funds will appear back on your credit card in 4-5 days. As I have previously indicated, the discount code was only valid for the Agora Netbook and this was clearly stated in our newlsetter, as was the price of $169 for the digital radio. We had a momentary issue with our website which was quickly resolved and we contacted you immediately after the transaction. You are welcome to take this matter further but I am confident that we have acted in a responsible and timely manner and have not breached any consumer laws."

    • hmmm…..as consumers we are unable to break contracts and demand refunds simply because we change our minds……

    • +1

It's probably now done them more harm perceptually than it would have financially. And still no 'sorry'.

  • Seems like Sold Out already!!!

  • Yes, it is now showing sold out on their website - just updated heading!

  • its funny, they have a koganrep on ozbargain. Maybe they're afraid to comment on this =]

Either way, I think it was a poorly thought out promotion that is just getting worse and worse by their failure to respond to this adequately.

    AH well =/

  • +10

I don't usually go out of my way to make a post here on OzBargain, but this episode has just given me the shits. All of you complaining like you are experts on consumer law and demanding justice because you couldn't get a $101 gift card for $1 are, to put it plainly and simply, idiots.

The original code for the $100 off was found in the newsletter and SPECIFICALLY offered for the Agora netbook ONLY. This is the most important component of the whole discussion. The code was NOT designed for any other product. Just because the code was released onto OzBargain and you were able to apply it to anything else momentarily, does not give you any kind of right to the product at that price.

It's the equivalent of a "get $100 off product-X if you mention this ad!", you walk into the store and scream "GIVE ME $100 OFF OF PRODUCT-Y IM MENTIONING THE AD JUST LIKE YOU SAID, CONTRACT LAW, CONSUMER AFFAIRS!!!!"

This is NOT the same as the Dell fiasco. It's NOT a bait-and-switch and its NOT UNFAIR in any way.

You used an offer designed for one product, stated as valid for one product for another and expect the company to follow through.

Anyone complaining about injustice here shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

    • +1

Yes, I agree …. this was an offer on a single item, and most likely through the honest mistake of an individual employee the code was not restricted to this single item. You can't expect to financially gain from this mistake.

This company has delivered what it had promised from its promotion, nothing more, nothing less.

    • +3

I'm not sure anyone is complaining particularly……nor demanding justice……
I'm also not sure anyone really expected a $101 gift card for $1 (but I could be wrong…..)

I guess it's an interesting exercise in testing issues around online retailing - protections for both consumer and retailer, particularly regarding automated systems.

Irrespective of any newsletter/mistake….the code WAS valid for any item on the Kogan website, albeit briefly.
Contracts were made, items were sold, and money taken - and receipts given
If this were a physical store, the item would be in the bag and on the way home…….would a physical retailer be entitled to chase you afterwards for the return of goods?

As I say……be interesting to see how it pans out

      • Would a physical retailer let you pay $1 for a $100 gift voucher in the first place? You can't make the comparison, there is much less oversight in an online store for these things due to their automated nature.

        • Depends who's on the checkout I suppose………if a product scans at a particular price, it's unlikely to be questioned (or noticed/cared about in many instances).

Admittedly, a gift voucher would be likely picked up, as it's clearly worth $100….but if, lets say, a gps scanned at $99, instead of $199…..that's less obvious - checkout guy/gal would doubtless just take the money without blinking……….

    • This is NOT the same as the Dell fiasco. It’s NOT a bait-and-switch and its NOT UNFAIR in any way.

      http://www.eoy.ey.com.au/www/595/1001127/displayarticle/1002…

Following coverage on ‘Today Tonight’ and ‘A Current Affair’, and fuelled by viral marketing, the Kogan brand gained strong recognition

Take a peep around whirlpool and the DTV forums
      http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=0e3940b12ae95beeccf3b3c…

      is particularly interesting…..

      Who knows?
      Certainly created some 'flurry'
(I'd never heard of them til today……….)

    • “GIVE ME $100 OFF OF PRODUCT-Y IM MENTIONING THE AD JUST LIKE YOU SAID, CONTRACT LAW, CONSUMER AFFAIRS!!!!”

These people exist and I have seen them in action. I feel a small feeling of glee when I see the salesman tell them to STFU and piss off :) Whinging and complaining as loud as possible when you have no basis to stand on will not get you anywhere.

It's pretty silly for them to allow the coupon to work on all products, and it may be human error or a limitation of their online system, but all of that is regardless when the email specifically states the terms and conditions limited its use to a single product.

  • +2

    100% agree samba, well said.

I got 3 of them, one for me, 1 each for niece/nephew and they are a bargain at that price.

    • +1

Sounds like Uncle Ray is going to be popular!!

      • hehe, yeah well i bought them but my Sister in law payed for the extras on her card.. I will just have the dubious honor of setting them up…

  • +1

Well put Samba. Everyone likes to have a whinge and moan about something they can't have which clearly would be a LUXURY anyway. Reminds me of all the whingeing when 1-a-day had the PS3 sale and everyone was crying about missing out and saying it was a sham etc

    • +2

well, whether samba (or anyone else) likes it or not, people have their right to voice their opinions. But I find it quite amusing to read people having a big whinge about other whingers :P

  • Rceived my $299 machine this morning …. looks good. Build quality looks good. Very responsive under gOS, will be installing Win7 later in the day.

    • Thanks for the update Ash, glad to see you grabbed this bargain. Let us know how you go with Windows ;)

  • Yeah got one of mine this morning too ( somehow Toll have managed to separate the order and only delivered one…weird..)
anyway so far yeah it seems good.
I also think i will be putting Win 7 on it, not sure when though.
Have already swapped the 1 Gig ram for a spare 2 Gig i had, picked it up no probs

  • Installed Win7 (x86) without a hitch, all drivers automaticly loaded. Very responsive performance even with 1GB ram. I was surprised to see that it even played 1080i TV broadcasts in media center when I connected a DVB-t dongle.

The wireless does however does seem very weak….yet to experiment with that more however. Will be interested to hear from others go on the wireless front.
