  • How is this running windows store and apps, the resolution could be a bit low

    • It can't. Guessing they're up scaling the resolution like the Pendo 7.

  • click the link and you'll see that it's actually $98! That $1 extra is important for us ozbargainers!

    • Cheers fixed

  • +1

Why must they ruin a potentially good tablet with these low res screens.

  • guess i'll be the first to ask but is this in any way better than https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172472

From what I can see, it doesn't seem to be

    • I think your right. Looks to be same spec. $10 cheaper thou.

  • How do they even get Windows 8.1 & supply a tablet for $98?

Makes you think, when Windows 8.1 by it self is worth $149 odd…

    • windows 8 with bing! or whatever it is

      • +1

Just googled and it found this

Windows 8.1 with Bing costs $0 for computer manufacturers to include on their laptops and tablets. That’s right — there’s no licensing fee at all. It’s designed so computer manufacturers can offer cheap laptops like HP’s forthcoming $200 Windows laptop. The manufacturer can keep all the money from the device without paying Microsoft a cent.

        Wow I didn't know!

  • Don't forget the $5 off!!

  • Well Office 365 is already $90 a year by itself…

  • the low 1GB kind of limits which apps you can run, unless you like programs crashing and error messages! also, 4 hr battery life, the Bay Trail cpu doesn't use much power so they must have put in a tiny battery, then again big difference in price between say ~$400 for an Asus T100 or $98 for this!

    • Your personal experience? You tried to run Photoshop on one of these or something?

      • nah, these low powered tablets are more for media consumption than media creation, even a more powerful tablet like Surface Pro could run it but throttling could be an issue, which ironically is mostly due to it's form factor!

  • I've got the HP Stream 7. Awesome screen on it, it's pretty fast too way better than you'd think from 1GB ram.
They boot different so use less memory, they boot directly from the recovery WIM partition.

    • WIMBoot doesn't reduce RAM usage, it reduces storage.

      • -1

Not true. It's WIM boot that allows Windows to be used on tablet with 1GB ram.

        • Not true. WIM compressed files are uncompressed when they are run. How would this reduce RAM usage?

        • lol This reminds me of SoftRAM, etc. (If you don't remember measuring RAM in MB then you won't remember that saga.)

  • Can these do 1080P over hdmi? Would make super cheap KODI devices

  • What's the performance of these things with only 1GB of RAM? I'm after a cheap tablet just to browse the web on and read stuff.

  • … This needs a slightly bigger HDD. I think it would still qualify for "Windows with Bing"
