For office work trackballs are quite good but they are not too good for games. They have the advantages that they place less stress on the wrist and can be used on crowded desks.

I really don't know how people can use these over a regular mouse.

give it another 10-20 years of constant daily use with your mouse and you will be saying

I really don't know how people can use stupid mice over trackballs….

      :)

no way id ever go back to a mouse again, even for gaming… tho i guess a couple of decades of heavy mouse use and the wrist issues i have probably help sway my position on this

The way i see that trackball is the same i see a laptop track pad too slow and all most impossible for gaming. i play battlefield and other fps games so need something fast.
        my Logitech G602 is perfect.

        • +6

uhhh, perhaps when you're older than 21 you'll realise that people use computers for things other than gaming…

          FYI, i also have a G602 (and a G700s and a G9x), and i have one of these too.

TB's are much better than a trackpad imo. i am pretty proficient with both but certainly im much faster with a TB.

it takes some time to get used to a TB. a good 3 to 6 months of exclusive use before you really get the feel for it but once you do its much much better for RSI type wrist issues. i was at the point of constant pain using a mouse before getting my TB, ive also been using mice both for work and home for a couple of decades so maybe YMMV

        • @caprimulgus:

hahaa +1, and based on his username he probably IS 21 now… :P

        • -2

@caprimulgus: I do use my pc for other things other then gaming, i like things fast not slow normal mouse is fast.

and btw i also have a Logitech G402 and G400s
used to have G700s but sold it.

          @holden93:

i think you're kinda missing the point bro…what we're saying is that for certain people in certain use cases, speed is not the most important factor. the reason people use trackballs is usually ergonomics.

my point in listing the mice i have is that i DO have gaming mice for gaming. and i have other devices (such as the m570) for other purposes.

perhaps, as a younger bloke, this is something you don't quite understand yet, but nosdan's point is that in time you probably will! ;)

@caprimulgus: why are you trying to start an argument? i posted my thoughts on this product and it's turned into all this.

maybe it is you who needs to grow up a bit if you can start arguments out of people thoughts of something.

also my age has NOTHING to do with this.

        • +4

also my age has NOTHING to do with this.

pretty sure your age and thus your maturity has everything to do with it, maybe once you mature enough you will be able to see such things ;)

        • -8

@nosdan: This coming from people who are so petty to neg someone for no reason at all other then cause they can.

i think it is you who needs to mature a bit.

          @holden93:

hey bro, it's all good mate…you said you "really don't know how people can use these over a regular mouse", and i'm merely trying to help you understand.

i would humbly suggest to you that you consider how you express your "thoughts on this product", and perhaps why this might have "turned into all this"…i would suggest to you that the 5 people that have negged your first comment may indicate something.

but make of it what you will, it's all good.

        • +4

@holden93: I think it was because you blatantly labelled something that people use as useless without giving adequate reason?

Meh, but the main reason probably is so many people going "This is not regular mouse, it's bad. Why don't you…" making the users of these kind of mouses really tired about those statements because they like these mouses for reasons that you might not see.

I love this trackball. Great for graphics. Took a while to get used to playing FPS games.

  • My old work had one of these, well the ball was red and it was wired but pretty much the same. All because the normal mouses constantly broke under the required amount of movements; constant, sudden, movement of the cursor was required 24/7. Also normal mouses required a lot of space that we didn't have for each computers. It was hard to make sudden movements with required precision with the normal mouses as well.

It really does bring back memories. Even though I cannot mention what the job was or the location without being extremely vague about it…

    • controlling some military-grade drones?

      • +1

Nah, nothing majorly fancy like that though I was in the Chair Force. It was mostly grunt work, i.e. sorting out papers, recording stuff from data we were given, but even looking at those papers/data required 2nd level clearance. I am going to shut up from here, I like my balls and my head where they are.

Though, I have to admit, it took me some time to get used to the mouse, but, I don't think we could've used regular mouse, considering how small the area for each computer were.

  • Finally bought this since I keep on missing offers, never used a trackball before so this will be my deflowering experience. Been trying to find a decent vertical mouse for a while though not had any luck, the vertical ones are great for the office potatoes.

  • We use these at work and they are great for the space saving. Takes a bit to get used to thumb rolling of the ball.
Seems to go to sleep to save battery but wakes within a split second of ball movement hardly notice.

  • ~ $35 USD delivered.

  • Wish I could find something like this for us lefties.

Bought one on the previous deal (I'm a righty) but still can't get used to it. Have really tried, but can't get used to releasing thumb from the trackball when clicking, which means am always clicking in wrong part of screen.
Currently gathering dust in drawer alongside Cree torches, Eneloops, Micro-USB leads and unloved phone covers.
    Thanks OzB!

      LOL. That made me laugh.

If I didn't have two (one home, one I got for work) I might have offered to buy it from you.

I've been using trackballs for about 16 years. I'm actually left handed for writing, but haven't had any issues with using them right handed. I'd actually probably feel odd after this time trying to use it left handed. I just like having it in a fixed spot, not moving about.

Plus now mice technology might be fine, but it wasn't always. I remember what they were like back in the 80s and 90s (from the copper fingers on copper wheel, to the slotted wheel with led), and even the 2000s (lasers), to now. Even now a lot of mice you get just wont work on surfaces, and I really don't like mousepads.

    • I am actually very tempted to get your mouse off you. That type of mouse does have a nostalgia value to me, but not enough for me to actually buy it off Amazon right now.

  • +2

you can get one with a centre trackball for LH and RH ers.

I own the red wired version of this and it is sooooo much better than a mouse! I use both and much prefer this for day to day, the BT mouse is relegated to the laptop travel bag!

    • Hm, yeah I've seen those centre ones for ambidextrous use, but they more or less require you use a finber to control the ball rather than a thumb?

  • Thanks OP. You just saved me $4. Bought this earlier this month at $31.3, and just chatted with the CSR to get the difference refunded.

    • how long after they can give difference refund ? within one month ?

      • Their policy is within 7 days, but the CSR gave me the difference anyway for my order on 03/Dec. I asked politely and my order is still not received, so I reckon as long as it's within a reasonable time frame.

        • Seven days from receipt of the item.

  • cant believe i missed this again! RSI is my future
