Asus TF103C 10.1" Transformer Pad Tablet White $199 @ Officeworks

30

Was looking around different stores for 10inch tablets and came across this one for $199. Went and had a bit of a play with it in store and it seemed pretty usable too, about what i'd expect for the specs at this price. Couldn't find it any cheaper or it being lower anywhere else at some stage to compare with, next cheapest I could find was B&H for $244 with a keyboard but would only get here by expedited shipping if ordered today.

Officeworks has the specs at:

  • Display: 10.1" WXGA IPS Capacitive Touchscreen (1280 x 800)
  • Memory: 1GB RAM + 8GB eMMC SSD Internal (Expandable up to 64GB Micro SD) + Asus WebStorage 16GB for one year
  • Camera: Rear: 2MP; Front: 0.3MP
  • Dimensions: 257.46 (H) x 178 (W) x 9.9mm (D), 550g
  • Processor: Intel Bay Trail TZ3745 1.8 GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Connection: WiFi 802.11 (a,b,g,n) / BT 4.0 / Micro USB / USB2.0 / Micro SD / 3.5mm

However most sites I went to said it had 16GB storage so not sure if it's an error or not and I didn't think to look in store at the time.

Not in the catalogue so not sure how long this price will last.

  • Did it have the keyboard dock with it in-store?

  • $200 dollars for a 10" tablet using an Intel quad core is a descent price. Might wait a little longer tho for a slightly stronger tablet to play the new Hearthstone android app.

Why would you need anything stronger to play a trading card game on a tablet? Its not like its a Call of Duty Port..

      • -1

Reports of it lagging on the 2013 Nexus 7 among others, and higher specced tablets. My $100 Asus quad core tablet can barely load the sound properly.

Hopefully though it's just cause the app is far from optimized. We're beta testers!

    • I don't have that game, but supposedly it drains some people's iPad within 3 hours of playing.

      • 3 hours playing a card game?

        • Supposedly it's a gpu intensive game

        • You clearly haven't seen Yugioh anime. Card games are pretty intense. :P

OK, joking asides, the game does have a lot of animations and I think it requires internet to play, which would drain battery a lot.

1GB ram, destroys the bargain for me.

    • This. Throwing money away.

  • I do know that with the bay trail processor and just a 1gb ram running on Windows Bing, it runs perfectly fine. Curious to know how android would run with Intel and 1gb ram

    • Only if you run one app at a time, it will work ok. Try to open up Firefox or Chrome with multiple Windows and then open up Word. The Baytrail CPU handles it well but the RAM kills it since it will need to swap.

Android's will run "ok" with 1GB as entry level. But the standard for Android's now are 2GB to allow for more stuff to be cached and running from RAM.

    • The difference is Windows has a page file.

      • Yeah.. but the Android has a very different memory mapping architecture to Windows. Cant really compare it that way.

        • Closing random apps/services when running memory is running low isn't really managent imo. Why I think 2gb is mandatory now days.

  • It depends on resolution of tab, they scrape by with 1gb because its a low res screen. I wouldn't buy this tab based on the screen resolution, but I'm sure others would be happy with it.
