Got an EDR email this morning with an activated offer for Google Chromecast for $38.00. Not sure if targeted or if you need to have an EDR card prior to get the deal.

Will let you know when I go try later on.

EDIT: In Store Only

EDIT2: Just got one using an unregistered EDR CARD. So go wild.

Don't forget your '$5 off $50 purchase' coupon from Woolies! (If you find another bargain, I highly recommend Optus vouchers for $30 or more since it gives you a 4c fuel voucher and 10% extra credit!)

    • weeps I left that one at work… sigh.

What did you have to do to get that voucher again? Might swing by Woolies first before Big W.

      • Buy anything from Woolies, even a 5c cherry :)

        • +2

Yep. Got the Big W Offer today after shopping at Woolworths.

Spend $50 or more and get $5 off or
Spend $90 or more and get $10 off at any Big W store. Coupon valid until 19th December so have to use today or tomorrow.

Valid for 1 redemption only at any Big W store. Excludes all layby payments, All Apple and Samsung Products, Tobacco products/accessories and all gift cards. Coupon not valid in conjunction with any other offers (incl Big W Vision)

And you can stack 7.5% off wish gift card from entertainment book, or 5% off gift card from cashrewards

  • Any idea if we can sign up after the original went email out?

Looking to buy one of these this morning.

    • +1

Not sure… I am about to head out in about 20 minutes and I have an unregistered EDR card so I am going to see if that works and will post back here.

      • With these offers you need to activate it from the email sent out. What I'd do is register the card properly, then get their support to send you out this email, don't see why they wouldn't. May not happen today though.

      • Hrmmm Big W wasn't open when I went. KMart was so picked up some Cars toys for presents. Will try again later as I still need to get some baby gear.

  • I have found some of these offers that need to be "activated" dont actually need to be, you just need a registered rewards card.

  • Just off the phone from an EDR 'support' person who told me the emails are generated according to where your EDR card is swiped and therefore are automatic and targeted. She told me she couldn't send me the offer.

This is almost as annoying as Lite n easy and their deals they only offer certain people..

    • +2

Do they only offer meals to fat people?

      • +1

        apparently not

        • +3

yeh those folks on the ad look like they could do with a few more burgers as opposed to less.

    • Just had a look at the link and it looks unique. But I am sure all EDR registered customers would of gotten the email. There is something for everyone in the offers.

      • Yeah, I posted this earlier in the morning but it was taken down and marked as a "targeted offer" but from prior offers on here, it seemed like it still worked if you didn't activate it, but was an existing EDR member and scanned your card at checkout

      • Don't be so sure.

        I didn't get it.

I also note the previous chromecast offer for BigW/EDR was advertised in store.

Despite an "activation" email being sent.

    • They had a big sign up in store when I was there last night. I would think it should therefore be pretty easy to get with an EDR card. Great deal - I'd rush in if I hadn't already stocked up on Chromecasts and Eneloops from Uncle Dick.

    Illuminati confirmed.

  • Stupid question but……

I have xpenology running on my n54l and from that am currently running plex which streams to rasplex on my pi in the lounge. All works great.

If I was to purchase a chromecast and then plug the cc into a TV upstairs could I then cast the content from the nas to it via plex running on the nas. I presume if you could then you would use either a phone or tablet to do so.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree with regards to what the cc can do?

    Cheers

  • Worked @rockdale big w

  • No need to activate the email. I just scanned my EDR and the price automatically dropped to $38.

Note though there was NO signs advertising the lower price so unless you have an EDR card then you have no chance of getting it at the cheaper price.

  • I've given EDR a ring and they said it wasn't 'targeted' and that if i couldn't get it for that price,to ring them back and they'll be happy to match the difference.

I changed my email with them and didn't receive nothing. I'll try it out soon.

    • it looks more like you DID receive nothing! (ducks)

    • I envy you! I haven't received nothing for a long time. I am always receiving OZB deals and spending my 'hard earnt' as a result!

  • Worked with an unregistered EDR card. So go crazy.

  • Thank you.

Confirmed - can pick up an unactivated EDR temporary card from the register and get
    one for $38.

  • Just picked one up at Big W Southland.

They are advertised in store as $10 off for Every Day Rewards Members.

    • Also walked past DSE. They have 2 Chromecasts for $88.

      Sounded good for a second till I worked out it was $44 each and could use WW Spend $50 or more and get $5 off at Big W voucher. 2 x $38 = $76 - $ 5 = $71

      $35.50

  • Worked Big W Bris CBD. No signage about the special deal though. Just marked as $49.

  • Just picked up one from Big W Westfield Chermside Shopping centre.

They are advertised in store as $10 off for Every Day Rewards Members.

  • Can someone please post a copy of their receipt online? Alot of places are sold out around the area so trying to price match from jb they wouldn't do it without a receipt..

If you're close to big w don't hold off. I was just now as Belmont, WA Big W and I shit you not, there was a pair of ozbargainers buying one as I was and someone was on phone asking for them to hold one. These will sell like hot cakes.

I got mine for $36.10 using my sisters woollies discount card which doubles as a EDR card.

    • +3

how odd that ozbargainers are starting to move in pairs.

Like a couple of hyenas surrounding a zebra carcass ready to gorge themselves :)

Chromecast doesn't support proxy servers unless you do it through your router and block Google's servers

  • Another 10% off for staff members during the weekend if you can't make it on Friday

  • Thanks OP. Picked up the last one at Carindale QLD.

    • Picked up one at Capalaba, and there were 3 left in the display cabinet.

  • Sold out at Big so went straight to our DSE whom were all too happy to price match no proof required.

  • I bought two for $38 each. I picked up the last one at one store and headed over to another to get the second last one there. Both were sealed except. The first one must have been opened at some point because all the plastic packaging for the USB and HDMI cables was discarded; as if someone had tried using it in store or returned it.

    • Yeah just factory reset it. Should be fine.

  • Anyone know how long this EDR deal goes for?

    • +1

      Christmas Eve.

      • Thanks!

  • Picked up a couple, thanks OP :-)

  • Ugh I knew I shouldn't have bothered going, no stock at Doncaster.

    • Long gone at Southland.
Went quick last time as well.

I'm sure there will be new deals in the New Year

  • Thanks Xeon (above) for the price matching inspiration.
Big W Chermside (QLD) did not appear to have stock in the wee hours this morning (staff member said they'd only ever had about three), and JB Hi Fi was on the way to DSE. The price match on request at JB was way simpler and quicker than finding the display with abundant stock (I showed them the top of this thread).

    • Clever… the Big W I went to had about 10 on the shelf. Went back two days later and they were gone.
