EB Games Steelseries Dota 2 Mouse & Mousepad - $36 (with Potential USD $35 Steam Credit)

950

I found this over at the Whirlpool forums and tried it myself so can confirm it can be done.

Basically EB are selling the Steelseries Dota 2 mouse bundle which comes with a Steelseries Kana mouse worth $50, a mini mousepad worth $12 and a digital "Kantusa Scrift Sword" code. This digital item sells for USD$40-42 on the Steam store which after Steam takes their cut gives you about USD$35 in your Steam wallet. So essentially you're getting a free mouse and mousepad and AUD$44 Steam credit for just AUD$36.

http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/570/Genuine%20Kant…

There still seems to be quite a bit of stock at EB games, nearly every store at the Gold Coast has it. You can input your postcode on the EB website to find out where there's stock. When I went there they only had one left though.

Also you will need to install Dota 2 (6.6GB) to sell the item on the Steam marketplace.

Nice find! I am a big dota 2 fan and will be picking one up tomorrow!

    • +1

just remember you can print your own dota mousepad for like $1 from artscow

  • -1

This is a really good deal. Can't vouch for the mouse but I've never had any problems with Steelseries, quality products that aren't marked up a ton (Razer). Will pick one up at Australia Fair. Thanks OP.

    • I had the Steelseries Siberia Frost bundle. I only play Dota 2 and the left click started sticking after ~1200 games. Was a decent mouse in regards to how it felt for dota, I just wish the spring back mechanic was a bit better.

  • Great work picked one up. Now to try and sell the sword.

  • +3

Better get in quick, the price of the sword will drop once there is an increase in supply. Happened to several of my backgrounds when steam introduced the gem system (which i am not a fan of).

  • Likewise waiting for the item to get the ozbargain treatment and the price to plummet. would be tempting though

  • -5

just a warning - steelseries mice get terrible reviews. do not buy this for the mouse!

    • +5

Lies. Steelseries make some of the best mice.

Source: half the competitive, and professional gaming community using them.

      • +3

lol…A lot of Pro's are simply sponsered to use the product, the mice themselves aren't really that popular. To say they get terrible reviews is complete bullshit though.

      • +1

Steelseries mice aren't bad, but they're pretty average. The "best" mices are considered to be the Zowie FK1//FK2//EC2 range. The Mionix Avior 7000, Logitech G402//G400//G302//G502 & Rival are also good.

        • +2

The SteelSeries Rival is a great mouse. Great for FPS.
This outdated list shows some mouse stats for a bunch of professional CS:GO players.
As others have said most of these people are using equipment based on contractual obligations. That said, SteelSeries do not generally receive terrible reviews. Not within the Counterstrike community at least.

        • You forgot the Roccat Kone Pure Military/Optical.

        • +2

No mention of G9x? Greatest mouse I've ever used apart from the original Microsoft Intellimouse which they no longer make (can still find them on eBay, though).

        • @kaneissik:

Good mouse, mine recently capped out after 3 years so I had to replace it with a Steelseries Kana (Logitech discontinued G9x's for some reason).

All I can say is that the Kana is the inferior mouse in every way.

        • @eathb: Wow I never knew they discontinued it, that's a real shame. I'm currently using a G400s which is pretty good but no match to the G9x. I'll have to stock up on the G9's from eBay

        • @kaneissik:

I used a g9x for 3 years and got sick of it. The shape itself may be comfortable but puts your hand in a weird shape so it cramps up. Also the sensor seemed a bit floaty compaed to the more recent optical mice. Prefer my roccat alot more than it

      • the amount of cluelessness you managed to pull out in this comment is fascinating.

Only a quater of people are using SS mice and ALL of them are sponsored by SS. SS keeps cutting corners and costs with all their recent products.

    • +1

      Links, or it didn't happen.

  • +2

So essentially you're paying for a mouse and mousepad and potentially AUD$44 Steam virtual credit for AUD$36.

    • +4

You could look at it that way. I just wanted the cheap Steam credit because the exchange rate is brutal at the moment and the mouse+mousepad was a nice bonus.

  • Don't know about this mouse, but the sensei and some of the higher end Steelseries mice are quite good and get pretty decent reviews? So just keep that in mind since you are buying a $$36 mouse/mousepad combo.

    • +3

It's a $50 mouse at PCCG. I had a quick look and it seems decent albeit pretty basic. I will be sticking with my Logitech G9x but it's nice to have a spare.

  • Just curious, does anyone know whether the mouse itself is decent?

I went to Amazon and searched for the combo and people's review were fairly varied.

    • +2

I presently use these or roccat after razer quality went to crap. (Original diamondback please)

      • Would you recommend these without the sword? I am thinking about buying it, but the price of sword probably would go down sooner or later with ozbargainers and others selling them.

        • +1

Yes its decent and a good deal at the price

        • @nick nick: Yay, needed new mouse. Might pay ebgames a visit tomorrow. :D Thanks

    • +1

Depends whether you find the following acceptable:

      QcK Mini Dota 2 (mousepad)
      - Colour differentiations can cause inconsistancy in tracking
      - Depending on how logo was imprinted it can cause uneven surfaces affecting mouse glides
      Plain solid colours prefered.

      SteelSeries Kana v1 (mouse)
      Mouse Sensor: 3305DK-H
      - Known for pixel skipping, jittering, unstable tracking
Consider alternatives for a decent mouse.

      • +1

Do you have any alternatives that you would recommend at this price range? :)

        • +1

logitech g400s.. it's a few years old so you might find it fairly cheap online

        • @tomkun01: Thanks :D

  • +1

Note that these are hard to sell. Check the number sold in the graph.

    • It says 31 were sold in the last 24 hours…

      • The ozbargain treatment haha

        • That's actually a slow sales day, but you get the idea, it's not like they don't sell

    • +1

It only took me 2 hours to sell mine but when it's Ozbargain'd there might be an influx of these so better to get in quick.

      • Took me about 3 days but thats because I listed it too high, ended up selling for $43USD, So I got.. idk $37 or something after steam fees

  • Just bought one
    http://imgur.com/coL0nye

Also, to sell an item on steam community market you must have bought something in the last 30 days

    • Also, to sell an item on steam community market you must have bought something in the last 30 days

Would this work with games purchases with a Steam Wallet code?

      • I'm not sure about that, Open up steam and try to sell something, it will tell you if you can't.

I got it wrong though. It's between 30 days to 1 year so for some people it wont help during the sales.

    • All mobas are utterly pleb, but this is still a great deal.

    • +1

      Completely irrelevant.

    • +1

Lol I bet all the dislikes are dota 2 fans

      • I know my dislike is :3

    • +1

Not league of legends only, I can confirm this mouse works in DOTA2 also.

  • +1

Make sure that you list it as close as to the lowest price as possible, otherwise if there's too much of a dip in the market price then people won't purchase at that price.

The mouse quality itself is quite durable and feels ergonomic, however personally I prefer the Corsair Vengeance Mouse Series. These however definitely beat Razer mouses personally.

    Great find OP.

  • +1

    Nice username, OP

  • For those wondering how good the mouse is, I own the Steelseries Kana (non-dota version though, but identical except colours) and it is an exceptional mouse. It only has two macro keys, one on each side, which personally suits me fine, but if you play mmo's it potentially could be a problem. The sensor on it doesn't have any accel like a $80+ mouse might have built in. The cord is fine, the finish on the mouse is fine, and all that. It's actually a very good mouse and definitely worth it! Pair that with the fact you get a good mousepad and it is an amazing deal. But if you have $75 to spend on a mouse a Zowie FK1 is better.

  • -1

Good for moba but performance-wise these are pretty bad for fps

    • +4

That is absurd and entirely false.

      • It jitters over 800dpi since the dpi is interpolated. And the sensor itself has prediction. The mouse also uses lower quality TTC switches instead of Omron which is used in most >$30 gaming mice. Steelseries themselves have put Omron switches and a better sensor in their updated Kana v2.

The braided cable is unnecessary and annoying for such a light mouse. The mousepad is also too small for 95% of people who playing competitive FPS.

But what do you know? People making assumptions on what is true or not based on their own opinion.\

        • The prediction on the sensor is very slight, and you'd probably easily adjust to it.
Most people wouldn't use over 800 dpi anyway, and it actually has a rubber cable, not a braided.
The switches are indeed very cheap but they're fine. It's a nice shaped, lightweight mouse with a fine sensor that for the deal is very good.
It is definitely good for FPS games, maybe not super competitive Quake, but in that case you'd be willing to spend some big $$$ on a mouse anyway.
Would recommend to any FPS player except a Quake or Counter-Strike pro.

        • @dlanebrah:

A lot of better mice have been released since then IMO, hence my comment. I'm not sure how you use 800dpi with the small dota 2 mousepad though, which makes the mousepad useless for fps.

Anyway everyone has their own opinion.. personally I would spend a bit extra for the bonuses but I understand not everyone has money to spend on a high-end mouse. But then again, using this mouse IMO is no different to using a low-end $10 mouse like the SS Kinzu 2

  • is this a soft (cloth) or hard surface mousepad ?

    • +1

      soft rubber type surface.

I bought one of these sets yesterday and haven't used the mouse as yet - but it's the same size as the MS Intellimouse which I've been using for well on 10 years now I reckon. I hope the side buttons aren't only macro buttons and will work as normal mouse buttons, as that is why I like the MS Intellimouse (I'm a lefty and trying to find a decent left handed mouse with side buttons is almost impossible).

I sold my DOTA 2 sword thingy last night for $35 USD, so nice to wake up and have some steam credit - maybe I'll even buy something, as so far nothing has tempted me at all on steam sale.

  • +For Dota 2 related deal
    Very good find OP

  • No stock anywhere near me. One store told me it's online only :P

    Good deal though.

  • +2

Pretty much all Sydney stores are out of stock or have the last ones already reserved. Should've gotten in earlier but I was too distracted by playing too much Dota 2. Oh the irony! lol

  • Got the last one at Glenelg. Still some stores showing stock in Adelaide.

  • I have one on hold in Sydney that I don't need as I went and bought it at another store by accident.

    • +1

Feel free to PM me with the details, as would really love to pick one up :)

      • PM me if you would like it (new user can't PM)

        • Unfortunately unable to send a PM to you, must be disabled both ways. Feel free to contact me [email protected]
Hopefully it's a store not too far away. Thanks again :)

  • Got one from Chatswood Chase this morning, although I'm not Dota fans, and gave the code to my friends… Side question, I put the mouse to Mac, and the movement speed is very slow, even after I set the speed to highest…. any idea what's happened?

  • No more stock left in Adelaide, checked in person

  • New to DOTA 2 …
    Did I do something wrong?

Note: Items purchased for Dota 2 either in-game or on the Steam Community Market will not be tradable or marketable for one week after purchase. We are making this change to combat fraud and scams, and to help maintain a safe and healthy item economy within Dota 2.

    • Please note: Valve just started to enforce the 1 week trade ban rule on items bought from the steam store/community market primarily to prevent certain scams. I guess this applies to activated codes which grant you items (like the Katsuna sword).

So BEWARE you will NOT be able to trade/sell your item for 1 week upon activation.

    • +1

OK this is how to sell the item immediately.
Add the item in Steam, then sell in game from Dota 2 by using the right-click Sell option.
Sold my item within an hour.

      Thanks OP!
Will see how this mouse compares to my G9x.

  • WARNING: Check the box for code prior to taking the mouse out of the store.

I just picked one up. Last one in-stock, display item and the staff member had to get the hardware from the back stock room. Got home to a mouse and pad only, no code. EB are the new Dicks(mith) of staff members?

    • +1

The code is kind of hidden in all the cardboard, did you open it all up?

      • Thank you for the tip but I pulled it to bits. No code. I reserved one at another local store. I wonder how they deal with me trying to swap it? :/

    • +1

Okay, well I had a pleasent follow up visit. I told them it was opened floor stock with missing key and they just literally handed me the unopened replacement. Said they'd just ship off as defective stock.

Also be quite careful when scratching the code. I almost scratched through mine with too much pressure. :/

  • Tried to buy it online, let me add it to cart but wont checkout, said out of stock. aw :(

  • Thanks OP! already sold and now have $33 USD Steam credit + the mouse and pad to sell :D

  • hahah gotta love ozbargaining :) the first 15 or so items are (probably) all Aussies selling the item after buying the mouse combo :) - http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/570/Genuine%20Kant…

    • +2

With our collective power we could set the minimum sell price to at least $40 USD lol.

  • Thanks OP. Needed a new mouse for use in the office. Quite happy that I essentially ended up with a free mouse and mousepad after the item sold.

  • Spent 20mins driving, 30mins in queue but they ended up having 1 left in Maddington, code worked and sold the item for $35 USD so after fees $37 AUD.

    • Wow… Went back up to $42, I really thought Ozbargain would effect the market but I was wrong =(

  • Thanks OP. My wife hunted me one down at Elizabeth (SA) this morning.
I've had DOTA 2 on Steam before (still in the list but needed to download again), had no issue activating the code and listing from my steam inventory, didn't have to go in-game at all.

I did sell a little low at $35.50 USD. If you can wait a little more than a day it looks like $38-$40 is an easy price to get, just set and forget, I was about to change mine when it and all sub $36.50's sold.

Nice upgrade on the mouse for me, don't usually use a mousepad, but I like this one, might stick with it.

  • Any idea how long the sale will last for?

  • can't find it anywhere in sydney north shore area or inner west or melbourne SE areas.
anybody have any ideas where to find? X(

  • Any in Syd west?

  • Wow OP, nice deal I actually made a profit from it! (due to the currency conversion rate…)

  • Thanks OP, my lad is very happy with his new mouse…..plus the $46.63 AUD in his steam account, made Dad look like a genius.
Listed it at $43.50 USD and sold it in lees than 3 hours.
    Thx again….Merry Xmas.

  • Thanks OP. I was lucky to get it today. Some guy ordered a copy but failed to show up and buy. I listed it at $49.99 and it was sold in an hour.

Now I can wait for the right steam games on sale to use the steam credits.

  • Selling for $52 now, glad i got mummy to buy me this haha

  • Picked one up today for $25!

    • and sold sword for $54.50 US. thank you OP!

  • +rep good trader

  • +1

Came across an EB Games that still had one of these, as if the original deal wasn't good enough, picked it up for $23 (Accidently asked the bloke if he was sure that's the price, I was so surprised).

Scored $48 USD steam credit this time around, these swords hold their value better than the AUD.

    • I just picked up the last one at my local Ebgames store for $23. Found the package had been tampered with but the code worked fine. Odd.

Just put it up on the market. How long did it take for yours to sell?
