I always give a fake phone number as I hate being called at home. I also have a specific "sign up to things" email address. I dont generally get much snail mail, the few letters I have gotten have been from charities and I mark them as "return to sender" without opening so they think I dont live here anymore.

Yes, when are companies going to stop asking for phone numbers, birthdates, etc when this info is not required (I don't mind them asking for year for demographic sake but thats all they need and they aren't going to ring my mobile for the price it will cost them!). Eventually we'll all be giving them made up info (except address for delivery) then they'll "get it"… ;-)
@daydream: I actually had a chat to a marketing company on the phone once.. and it was only costing them 5cents or something ridiculous like that.
