  • hmm difficult choice the 60" isnt smart, but 3d isnt important compare with size.

  • good price but a third hdmi port would have been awesome - am looking for a new TV missed out on the Sony deal as i was away. 2 hdmi's is a bit sad these days, blu ray/htpc and chromecast means i'd need to buy a switch meaning another remote.. still a good price so i'm '+ve' voting it

    • Do you need to use chromecast in the TV? I would have though it could be plugged into say a Blu-ray player connected to TV, never used it so don't know.

    • +1

My TV has 3 HDMIs, but only one actually got used. My HTPC and Blu-ray connect to receiver and only one HDMI connects receiver to TV.

      • are you using a home theatre receiver? i'm currently just using a soundbar so everything runs to TV and then optical out to soundbar so all devices will always get audio out regardless

        • Did that with a Bose 3.2.1 for a while but the lack of a centre speaker. Lead me to sell it and buy a receiver with three good speakers

        • Yes, i am using a home theatre receiver, which connects to a set of 5.1 speakers and a subwoofer. The TV has sound out via optical to receiver. Normally watching TV no need receiver on, when the receiver on you can switch the source amongst the TV, blu-ray player, or HTPC. So a receiver might be an option fir you, if you buy this TV.

P.S. I usually watch Youtube on TV with the TV's bult-in YouTube app and do all the control on my ipad by pairing To TV (www.youtube.com/pair), so never found the need of a chromecast.

        • for those that have a receiver that can work but i dont have one.. does the receiver need to be powered up all the time to switch hdmi though? because you may not want or need to have the receiver always on.

No Ethernet port kills it for me.

not sure, you would need a blue ray player that has additional hdmi in ports, havent really researched them as my 8 year old samsung 46" has 4 anyway. the chromecast is an always on device but the interesting thing is, the samsung considers it an 'anynet' device meaning once you connect your smartphone or tablet to the chromecast it will automatically turn the tv on, or if your on another input source i.e. DTV it will switch over to the chromecast automatically. even if you could plug it into a blu ray or a switch, i wouldnt want to risk potentially losing some features

  • http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/samsung-55-f… . Sammy would be very nice, if there was stock :(

This deal is better anyway, and Samsung isn't any better than Panasonic.

      • Online reviews do not rate the Pana 430 highly. It usually performs middle to low in the tests I have read. I was interested in buying this a while ago. Pana LEDs are riding on the coat tails of their former glory - Plasma.

        • This is what got me. In store it looks great. Online reviews say it's great. Choice review done late Dec 2014 it came in last. Below Hisense and TCL. I'm no brand snob but it looked better than the Hisense in store.

        • @krouton24: I am not loyal to any particular brand, but prefer well known brands. I was underwhelmed by the cheaper Pana in less stores. Although the 700A is OK but then you pay for it.

  • Curious to know how does these models compared with this: TH-L55ET60A???

    • Here is the specs for that one http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/tvs-projectors/led-lcd-…
the other 55" is on post

      • Thanks Trent! I checked that already. What i meant was is there any major difference on picture quality, panel, features etc…

Also, which one is a newer model? Seems not many retailers still have this TH-L55ET60A..

        • +1

Ok the 700a has 1200Hz backlight scanning, the other has 600hZ, The ET60A looks like it has a subwoofer inbuilt, the 700a has voice interaction Pro, the other has voice guidance, the 700a has IPS LED Superbright, the other doesn't, most other specs look the same. The ET60A Looks like an older version compared to the 700A. Hope that helps, the specs on their site are all over the place

  • Didn't like the picture on thus, preferred the Sony 60" W600B.not sure why, just impressions to a layman.

    • Reviews say so too. I can't find anything for the A430 specifically, but Panasonic's budget TVs are a bit rubbish in general, now that it stopped making plasmas.

      https://www.avforums.com/review/panasonic-a400-tx-50a400b-led-lcd-full-hd-tv-review.10559

I bought a Sony 50" W700B a few months ago. It was a cinch to calibrate and the picture quality is fantastic for an $800 TV. Sony's W6, W7 and W8 are the budget TVs to get.

      • The reviews here aren't too bad for the 60:
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2270173

        • It depends on the person I suppose. My dad for example, I could point out all the aspects of my Panasonic plasma that make the picture quality so good, but he still wouldn't be able to tell the difference when he went back to his DSE-brand LCD.

For someone like him, a name brand 60" for under $1000 is a bargain and I suppose that's all that matters.

My yamaha receiver will pass through my PS3 to my tv if I switch it off, and use the tv speakers (Panasonic plasma)

  • What's the best 60"-65" under 1.3k?
I guess trent86 will know haha

The Samsung 6400, Sony 8500, LG 6500 Are the best models IMO :) But you have just missed most of the specials on these models, although Good guys boxing day sale is on till Mon so check there

      • If you had to pick one of the three or rank them 1st to 3rd?

        • +3

Probably pick the Sony then the Samsung then LG
Also the Sony mentioned above is 850b not 8500 :)

      • They are all smart(dumb) tv's arent they ? Whats a good TV,that i can just turn on and watch ?

        • +1

Most are 50Hz bar the pana in this post, you could try LG 5610 OR Samsung H5000

  • +1

these TV deals are like the eneloop deals - one every day almost (Which is a good thing)

    • exactly… lucky i have only 4 bedrooms :)

  • Picture quality is really quite average, good price though!

  • Personally, I prefer to buy a Smart TV instead especially with Freeview Plus. It just gives more functionalities of a TV.

    • Can't vouch for other brands, but samsung bluray players add pretty much every smart functionality a tv comes with so if you want freeview, etc you can easily get it at a later date.

  • Can someone explain this? "200Hz Backlight Blinking"?? I looked at the detailed specs on the link above (Panasonic website) and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere regarding 100hz?

    • +2

Frequency of the backlight - not the picture. It is nothing to be interested in and won't make any difference. The lighting is so diffused by being behind the screen that it would be nigh on impossible to spot even quite low refresh rates and what you're reading is entirely marketing spew.

  • Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy costco membership and get this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177897
