  • I have also found this - http://www.palingslifestyle.com.au/speakers/bose-home-theatr… if you already have reciever or prefer any other reciever

  • +1

Seriously I dont see why people bother with Bose. In my opinion are overpriced and under-perform.

    http://home-audio.toptenreviews.com/home-theater-speakers/bo…

Much better sound-wise are B&W, Canton, Boston Acoustics etc. etc. Pair them up with a good amp and bobs your uncle for a similar system in terms of looks that outperforms.

  • why are the speakers so small

    • Because that way they can amke them more expensive

    • +2

Bose systems have moved some of the mid-range from the speakers to the subwoofer. They are pretty much the only system I know where you can disconnect the satellite speakers and can hear spoken dialogue through the subwoofer.

This allows them to have extremely small speakers. Despite this, most of the critics say that these systems have a poorly balanced mid-range and therefore don't produce a sound as good as most similarly priced alternatives.

With Bose you are paying for an "All in one home theatre system" that has speakers you can easily hide in the corners. The Bose Lifestyle systems go one side further by moving most of the AV receiver electronics into the subwoofer, so you don't have a massive AV receiver in your entertainment cabinet.

    The problem with bose

I don't want to start some kind of Bose war, but people need to be aware that the Acoustimass product does not produce an accurate reproduction of sound, and lacks relevant frequencies in the sound spectrum. I always found Acoustimass to sound "hollow", and the frequency response chart in the first link explains why. There is a big gap between the sub and the satellites.

It's subjective, but if you are going to spend a lot of money on sound, it is important to understand frequency response charts.

    • The thing with all Bose stuff is that they have a very different approach to sound. The sound is definitely not clean, crisp and accurate but it is colourful and has a timbre which many find appealing. It is not like a fine wine but more like a European table wine which is pleasurable and very easy to drink. I think this is why so many people like it and feel it sounds so good. I have good audiophile quality headphones and speakers but I have one pair of Bose for when I am working - The music is not as perfect but it does have a delightful simple to listen to quality that is perfect when I just need background tunes while I am working.

So I wish audiophiles would accept perfect audio quality is not for everyone. Just like a multi award winning Shiraz is not the best red wine for everyone … the best wine should be the one you most enjoy to drink, and Bose can be one of the most pleasurable and colourful listening choices with good sound impact.

If the Bose is a pleasurable, colourful, delightful, easy to drink fun wine (Lambrusco equivalent), but a bottle of it costs more than a bottle of Grange, then is it still a product worthy of recommendation?

  • Whatever you guys say it as a review, i have one of these, and friends love watching movies at my place, especially because of this system.

    • But you can accomplish the same at a lower cost. Or better at the same cost.
