2x 5L German Bitburger Beer at Dan Murphys for $27.90

1270

Dan Murphy's is selling single kegs of Bitburger beer for $24.90 but also selling a case of two kegs for $27.90. Doesn't take too much calculation to realise that for an extra $3 you end up with Bitburger at $2.79 a litre.
I actually quite like this beer but understand that it may not be to everyone's taste. For those that have previously bought this beer and liked it or willing to try it out, you're on a winner!
Only problem I see is that stock is dropping quickly, if you want some check the online stock for your local Dan Murphy's and click and collect to secure it.

I tried a case of this the other day and 3/4 of it is still sitting under my bed.
    I couldnt stomach it.

    Just not my drop

    • +12

Do you normally store your beer under the bed?

      • +20

yeah he has a goon bag for a pillow too

        ozbb lyfe

      • +6

how else can you access emergency warm beer you might need in the morning when you have an insanely bad hangover and only way to get rid of it is with more beer????….

      • +5

Back in the 70's in the Airforce, the guy in the room next door used to keep a six pack under his bed. About 7am I'd hear a psheeeeht as the first can was cracked … at room temp, every morning without fail.

        • +1

It's pretty sad being in the Airforce drove him to alcohol. Although, who is to say he didn't have a problem before then.

        • +2

          wasnt that normal back then?

          KB = kids beer

        • +12

It's pretty sad that drinking so much alcohol drove him to being in the airforce.

        • +4

@DrPayne1990: I just hope it wasn't my loud music of a nighttime, ELO, Kate Bush, Seals and Crofts etc that drove him to drink… :)

        • @mikzter: This made my day. Thank you sir.

        • +1

@mikzter: LOL the mental imagery of an Airforce man losing the plot after hearing "Ooh, it gets dark! it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot. I find the lot
          falls through without you
          I'm coming back, love
          Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream
          My only master!"

for the millionth time from the adjoining room.

        • @waterlogged turnip: Now come on, do you really think I would have inflicted that on the poor soul a million times !!!
I think I got to 365 though. Come to think of it was around about a year when I started hearing the morning rip top symphony!

  • +1

Pardon my ignorance but how do you tap this keg?

    • +4

It has a valve on top, no other tools are required.

    • +3

It has a tap on the front of the keg :)

    • +11

that line never works with the ladies… :(

      • +9

Maybe that's because you referred to them as a keg?

      • +21

A chick walked up to me at the pub, rubbed my beer gut and said:
        "VB or Tooheys ?"
        "There's a tap underneath" I said. "Have a taste"

        • this is the most aussie joke i have ever heard

  • +13

Works out to be $0.90 per 335mL bottle if you're wondering what 2x5L of beer is.

    • Thanks, it always pays to do this type of calculation to work out the bang for your buck (alcohol content can be important too)

    • +3

or 80c a POT! Eat that Carlton Draught from every corner pub north of Bell St.

  • +7

Great deal! Any idea on best before date?

EDIT Just called Dan's 1300 number. 6 left at Thomastown VIC store, all with BB date of February 2015.

    • +2

It will still be fine for months after BB date, but thanks for the info.

  • +1

It doesn't give me the discount on mine. It's basically twice the price of one for two.

Edit: Never mind, you've just got to change it from "case" to "keg" manually.

    • +3

I was just about to say, you must have keg selected.

  • I got some :D

  • +2

Price is coming $27.90 for 2 in Dan Murphy Cannington.

    Mixed reviews about this beer.

Sorry, new to this beer in keg. Only thing I am thinking, how will you drink cold beer, I mean can you fit it in Fridge and what if you can't finish whole keg, how long does it stay fine in Keg

    • +2

I think it's fine for a while. It's essentially a rudimental keg, so that air shouldn't be getting in when you pour beer. I'm not an expert on it though. Additionally, if you see TA's comment above the expiry is in Feb 2015.

And yeah, you have to chuck them in the fridge for ~5 hours before drinking.

    • +1

5L kegs aren't that big. You should be able to make room in the fridge for it.

Think about it. A 3L bottle of milk fits happily in most fridge doors :)

  • -4

$5.58 per litre really isnt that cheap. Imo better off with the boags $10 off woolies deli deal - last day to buy is today, last day to use is next tues, $4.28 per litre. Better beer, better price, former subject to opinion of course

    • +1

No that wouldn't be cheap. Lucky this is $2.79 per litre.

    • +1

If you buy a case you get 10L for $27.90, that's what the post is all about.

    • +6

      The maths is simple.

      2x5lt = 10lt
      24x375ml = 9lt
      24x355ml = 8.52lt
      24x330ml = 7.92lt

So unless you can get a slab less then below, it's cheaper
      375ml slab @ $25.11
      355ml slab @ $23.77
      330ml slab @ $22.10

      • +1

I go by alcohol content and have a spreadsheet for such occassions.

    • +8

sorry guys, my bad , misread the post, that is cheap… Wish i could neg my own post!

      • +1

I think you can 'unpublish' it, but then the handy maths from supabrudda would be lost. I think just wear it on the chin.

Or you could edit it as if it had never happened haha.

        • +1

He can't as it has already been replied to, so it's locked unless they report the comment and get it deleted, but then it deletes all the others as you mentioned.

Cheers OP, just bought one for C&C.

        • +5

@Porthos: not the end of the world guys, happy to be fool for a day! Honest mistake so maybe the negs will stop at 3…

        • +1

          @pointless comment:
          LOL, 'pointless comment' indeed.
DW happens to the best of us :)

          Music Factory or Red Alert?

      • +2

"Wish i could neg my own post!"

As a special favour, I'll neg it for ya pc :)
I just assumed you were living up to your name.

      • -1

So I guess you lived up to your name? :)

  • +3

It doesn't taste like Australian beer if that's what you are asking but if you have had German beers in the past and liked them you should like this. If you have fruit and veggies in the fridge, turf them out and put the keg in, it's far more important and nutritious.
I'm not sure how long it will last in the fridge as it's never been very long in mine once opened. I would say you would still get maybe three days out of it. It will taste the same but will probably go flat like any beer would. Open it when you have a party !

    • 3 days? was that during FebFast or something?

      • I'm guessing :) longest mine has lasted is until the following day before it's gone.

        • yeah 5 litres doesnt last long if its a good beer like this

hell, i killed a heineken keg in a day when they were $20 a few years back

        • +1

@tonyjzx: That's a lot of beer in one day!

        • +3

          @yojabbajabba: It's mostly water. It's practically a health drink.

        • +1

          @waterlogged turnip:

yep in germany its merely a breakfast beer

  • +2

I enjoy this beer but this keg is a bugger to work with, the heineken kegs ($35 each) are easier to work with. Great deal though, probably still get a couple if I can

  • +1

This really isn't a bad drop, bang for your buck is very decent for a case. picked them up last time on special, BBQ plus two of these on the table makes your guest think the world of you.

    • +4

One for yourself and one for your singular guest? ;)

  • Great price for my favorite beer!

  • As a craft beer lover, I was surprised to find this actually tasted pretty good for a high selling (in Germany) lager. Definitely good value if you're in need of a keg or two at some stage!

Tap was fiddly to get working, btw.

  • Can you use Tap King for this Keg.

    • No - different system on the Tap King. This is a self contained keg with its own tap.

  • Will this last a few weeks after being tapped?

    • +1

      Not at my place.
Read comments above for a less stupid answer.

      • Is it possible to use these for homebrew? I use the coopers home brew setup and would love to have it in a keg.

        • +1

Not sure about these, but you can definitely use the Tap King ones. Sorry it doesn't help with this deal, but something to bear in mind!

        • Look at getting a second hand cornelius keg set up and say good bye to washing and capping bottles.

    • +1

Weeks ? I'll lookout for a special just for you, beer that comes in 50ml cans.

    • that's what she said…

      • -2

        "that's what she said…"

Ah there it is again, my pet hate; completely nonsensical/random use of the "that's what she said" line/gag. I'd love to know what you actually think the line refers to rastaman! Also, there's a hilarious episode of 'The Office' (US version) that you need to watch. In that episode, the main guy repeatedly demonstrates that he doesn't actually understand the joke, by dropping the line in situations where it makes no sense to do so, in a misguided attempt to appear 'cool'.

Which obviously has the opposite effect.

        • completely nonsensical/random use of the "that's what she said" line/gag

          That's often the point, dude.

It's meant to be ironic use of the line. The irony itself is then the joke.

My pet hate is people that take jokes literally :P

        • @waterlogged turnip: my pet hate is pet haters

        • "That's often the point, dude."

Nah, it ain't Waters… it's meant to be used when it's humorous to imagine "her" saying it with reference to some sexual act/situation/attribute etc.

If it is used in these situations, and/or any other time as well, i.e. at random, then it loses all meaning/humour-value.

Obviously jokes should not be taken literally, but there needs to be some potential thought/humour involved, otherwise it's not a joke; it's just a "script" (like "OMG", or "what evs" etc.).

          That's my point, dude.

EDIT: I've decided to run a special screening of "The Office" episode alluded to above, at my house, for all OzBargainers; because I realise that many find long-winded overly intelectualised explanations irksome. Said peeps may be more receptive to my point when it is illustrated via a humorous screen-production. Copious amounts of Bitburger will be served.

        • +1

          @GnarlyKnuckles: OzBargain meetup 2015!!!

  • not many left in stores

  • All gone in Highbury and Golden Grove SA :(

    • Dan Murphy's has been Ozbargained yet again !

  • I found stock in Kew, VIC 3101.

    • This will be great for my Australia Day party coming up. Not my local but not too far away. Better than paying $7 delivery.

    • +2

No stock at my locals: Forest Hill, Burvale, Ringwood, Chadstone, Glen Waverley, Camberwell.

      • +1

took the last ones @ forest hill and burvale :)

        • Damn you! Oh well. I'll head to Kew before work in Camberwell.

  • Just called and in SA apparently only Mt Gambier has any stock left

If there is only 1 left in stock, they tell you they can't do a better price but the online system changes it to 1 keg for $13.95 (so half price)

  • Comes down to $25.81 if you use one of the discounted Big W wish e-cards.

    • Even cheaper if you used your cc for the buy 3x$50 dan murphy gift card thing and get $50 back on your cc.

      33% off!

      • Was that an Amex deal? If yes, I should get an Amex.

        • +1

          Yep was amex.
