    Like you repurposing idea manic.
Do these have a code (dip switch, or removable links) so multiple remote units can be controlled separately?

    • +4

You need to pair the two by pressing a button on receiver while transmitting.
So yes, there is a fixed code. You could even have one transmitter controlling multiple receivers.

      • +1

        Oh the power! Thanks.

Pity, 30%~60% Mark up over eastern state is pretty common here in WA.

    • +2

Why did someone neg you for that?

      • +5

Perhaps they work for IKEA WA :-)

  • +3

not available in melb stores :( i was looking at these lighting strips for under my bed, scared of the boogieman!

    • +2

Sorry but "You'll never escape the Babadook"

$20 at my local Ikea store (Logan)

    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/30232980/

    • Yes, that's the normal catalog price. But these may be reduced to clear at lower price - the basis of this deal.

  • +2

I presume that you should have an electrician's license to be able to have some DIY fun with these?

    • +18

Of course. Much too dangerous. Unless you live in NZ. Or just about anywhere outside Australia really. We Australians are too stupid to be trusted.

      • I thought as much

  • +1

At least you guys in WA are deemed worthy enough to have an Ikea… None down here in Tassie…

    • +32

That's more related to physics. IKEA stores are very big, it would sink the island.

      • Well if we trade you guys Senator Jacqui Lambie the island might be able to handle a Cost Co, Aldi and Ikea.. perhaps even a Masters.

    • +5

According to Ikea tax returns, they make no profit in Australia, so they would be crazy to invest in new stores.

      • +1

I'm sure their tax is dodged so they minimal or nothing and funnel all their profits back to Europe.
Like most major corporations do here…

      • Sure hope that was sarcasm. Not sure whether to link to the great AFR research about IKEA and their fancy tax dodge.

I'll go half way and provide the search results to those interested ;-p

What time we all heading to Ikea tomorrow?

    odd name:

AN.SLUT.A = "connect" in english, kinda appropriate

    • Now I wanna know the Swedish pronounciation, and then seeing the IKEA staff giggle at all the bogans mispronouncing it, or deliberately so.

    Hey!
Us "easterners" in SA also get royally screwed by Cebas..*
Hoping this deal also applies to us. Can anyone confirm?

OP do you mind adding (Adelaide?) to the title until it's confirmed or not?

*I actually found it was cheaper for me to pay excess luggage and a taxi to/from Melbourne's Richmond store (while I was on holiday in Melbourne) than to buy the same item when I got back to Adelaide Airport.

    • +1

It's the same franchise, so in theory we should have it in SA as well… but when you change the store to Adelaide, it's not there.

      • Im in Adelaide too but when checked the site here it still shows $49 :(

        • So does the Perth website.
          In store promo apparently

    • +2

Last I checked most things I was looking to buy were actually cheaper in SA eg:

      • FINNVARD trestle with shelf $100 in Melb, $55 in Adelaide

Varies per item though. I found if you replace the 'au' in the URL with 'aa' it switches the franchises.

    • +2

Same regular prices in Adelaide, but different sale prices. See:

      http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/store/adelaide/offers

      • +1

        Bugger.. Cheers.

  • +1

Big differences state vs state…. Compare to the prices in the US!!

I just came back from Perth! Rolles eyes*

  • Is this just switching mains or is the output voltage regulated to something smaller?

    • -1

Given the photo shows a type of low voltage socket found on led lights, the answer is probably not mains switching.

Page 12 of assembly manual (in deal link) shows wiring connection diagram. Mains is connected through switched cable to unit, then low voltage cable connects to cabinet led lights. Often the switching in these units is done on the low voltage, but may be mains as the box contains the transformer or similar.

      • Good tip to look at the manual. I would say it is actually switching mains, no voltage regulation is done in this box:
        1. The "intermediate connection cord", i.e. cable (coming out of this box) that connects to the light has the same plug as the cable going into this box (cable in has the clip on side, cable out does not have the clip).
        2. The same product can be used for halogen lights (Grundtal) which have their own transformer.

        • In that case, mains switching at 600W max.

        • The only regulation if for its internal power use. The 12V regulator is sold with the lights in a similar white plastic casing.

        • @manic:
So is the relay switching mains or low voltage output?

        • @brucefromaustralia:

I read it as switching mains as does [@luka]

        • @scubacoles:
That's why I was directing question to manic to confirm, as OP has examined relay and circuit.

  • Actually, not everything is more expensive here! The MARKUS leather office chair retails for $399 over east, but is normally $299 here. The fabric version is $149 ($100 off, clearance sale - but basically no stock left).

How do the dioder drawer lights trigger? Is it the drawer moving or a motion sensor?

    Thanks

    • I would say it is a remote button.

    • Looks like the battery drawer lights have an active-IR sensor pointing up. Also a timer, so it does not run flat if the drawer left open.
Much better than the ones operated by a physical switch.

      • So could I put them inside cabinets and the light would turn on when I open the door?

It would be fitted inside the cabinet not on the door. Thanks

        • You certainly could,
The light stays on for 15 seconds.

edit: I had a look, and they work very well as cabinet lights. You would mount on the "ceiling" of a cabinet, just inside the door.
Not as bright as the AC-powered cabinet lamps sold by Ikea, of course. You could use them in a wardrobe too. Wish I got more now :)

You could run a few of them from a 9V power supply, and not worry about batteries.

        • @manic: I just came back from ikea. They are $3 each and they won't work as cabinet lighting. They switch on when they detect the draw move rather than with a motion sensor

        • @daveaus:

Sorry, but I have one in front of me. At one end is a small blinking IR-LED and photosensor.
It comes on when I wave my hand over it.

Suitable for use in confined spaces, such as cabinets, bookshelves and closets,

          http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/40170482/

          Have corrected price, thanks :)

        • @manic: Thanks, looks like I was misinformed by the ikea lady. I wish I bought more as well :( Oh well.

  • I also just got back from Perth Ikea. They don't have the INREDA lighting there (despite their stock levels saying they do), it's sold out. More on the way but the girl didn't know when they were arriving.

Probably about 30 of the ANSLUTA remote power switches left, I picked up a couple. Lots (and lots) of the power cables for them, so no worries in that department.

  • Love the hack idea, more so since they sued and shut down (or just cease and desist, can't remember) a good website about all sorts of great IKEA items you can repurpose. Pretty clever ones.

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=IKEA+hacks

Can't find the site I'm thinking of, so maybe it was closed.

http://www.ikeahackers.net/ might be it but it didn't look all nice and modern, so maybe they updated the code.

    • That's the site, currently undergoing a reformatting.

Ikeahackers came to an agreement with Ikea in the end to basically continue what they were doing. This was a case of Ikea's Legal Department failing to communicate with their Marketing Department.

      • Hm interesting. Thanks for that, good to have that cleared up as I didn't really pay any attention to it but laugh when I heard about it.

  • Has anyone been today? Any Dioder left?

I really like these I just gotta find some cheap aaa batteries. I can't afford 6 eneloops per light!

    • Bunnings Varta 24-pack.

      • That is the cheapest I found as well, I wonder how long they will last.

        • No more dioder drawer lights left.

        • @daveaus:

Didn't happen to see if they have the INREDA lights back in yet by anychance ?

        • @DJ: I didn't look for them specifically but I couldn't see any under cabinet lights with clearance tags.

        • @daveaus:

Cheers, thanks :) Was it as busy as yesterday ?

        • @DJ: It was pretty bad. No seats in the lunch area at all.

  • Just got back from Ikea. No Dioder, piles of Ansluta left.

Note that Ansluta comes without cables. Power cable is $10 and cable that goes to whatever light you are using is another $7.

  • Manic, how did you take the power unit apart? I cannot see any tri-wing screws.

    • Any rubber feet that pop out revealing screws?

      • No, none at all.
Just a transparent sticker so nothing is hiding behind it either.

  • +3

My one come with white plastic plug on top of 4 screws. Just drill them off and use a small flat screw driver to undo 3 wing screws. A ziner plus a 7805 under 240v seems would not last very long… But still great deal for just 3 bucks.

    • Thanks. So the switching is done on the 240V, with 240V output to lights?

The 5V will be just for the remote receiver & relay circuit. I've had a similar circuit working for years. Mainly relies on zener lifespan.

      • +1

Yes the relay is switching 240v.

    • Ah… I am an idiot. Somehow I read "tri-wing" screws as 3 tri-wing screws. I saw the 4 plugs but I kept looking for something that resembled 3 screws :-)

      Thanks again

  • Back in stock! As of this afternoon, there were 8 Ansluta remote control power switches marked down to $3 at Perth Ikea! Moved a bit from their previous location but not far.
