    Hi Bellpop ,

Thanks for posting this deal. I was about to book flights to Bangkok and have been keeping an eye on it. It was coming to about $1300 return for 2 people in March. Just paid $919 including checked baggage(baggage for just 1 person). Saved me about $300. For anyone interested, the dates are 12/3/15 departing Melbourne and 26/3/15 departing Bangkok.

Also check out living social escape deals for accommodation deals in Bangkok/Phuket. I may actually out up a separate post once I have booked accommodation.

    Thanks

    • It's cheaper to just turn up to a hotel once you get there, cut out the middle man.

      • I was looking at travel websites like ratestogo which have a 20% off code at the moment and comparing the prices to directly with the hotel websites. It was definitely more expensive to go directly with the hotel. Any reason you say its cheaper to turn up at the hotel? Thanks

        • It is an old theory that does not hold true for Bangkok. I often see backpackers struggling under their big packs walking door to door testing out the theory! Definitely do your research & book online if you know the area that you want to go to. If you find a hotel that you like, also go direct to their web site to compare. If they have a membership, join and log in. Sometimes their best price does not show up unless logged in. PM me if you need any personal advice.

  • Can someone confirm what the change fee would be if you wanted to leave a day earlier (assuming no fare difference) on previously purchased starter fare?

  • Do your research if youre thinking about phuket, not what i was expecting when i went there.

    • What were you expecting?
Depends where you stay I guess. It's a good starting point anyway to head to Phi Phi or somewhere less busy.

      • thai girls that aren't all whores
        metered cabs
no getting hassled by street dealers while eating dinner
        hordes of lame tourists
treated like shit by thai/asian people
        cheap shopping/cheap anything
        Proper/normal nightlife scene

I could rant on and on, if i went again id get a motorbike and just avoid all this shit

        • Sounds like you didn't do any research at all, or talk to anyone who's been there.
As a general rule, the further you move away from the biggest holiday island in the country with an international airport on it then the less likely you will come across all those things.

        • The central parts of Phuket and Pattaya are the worst areas of Thailand to visit.

        • Well, to the (conveniently anonymous) negative voter, please tell me which you consider to be the worst areas of Thailand.

  • I'm getting time off around August/ September from work. Would it be wise to book this early to Phuket, or am I best wait another few months for another special perhaps from air asia

    • +1

Murphys law tends to prevail with air bookings, no matter what you do.
When AirAsia has a sale, their best sale prices tend to be for 12 month in advance bookings. But they may do something unusual after their current situation settles down.
Their current prices for Gold Coast to Phuket look expensive to me, however there are big savings to be had if you book your Kul to Phuket return trip, and GC to Kul return trip separately. And pay by paypal to save on the booking fee.
For anyone who wants to neg. me, this JUST MY OPINION. If you have an alternative opinion, then let's hear it!

      • Thanks for the advice.

I'm confused now. So you're saying go from Gold Coast-Kul (couldn't find any cheap flights to malaysia) then Kul-Phuket? I should've mentioned i'm quite keen on going to bali, as well.

Brisbane to bali is 199. Bali to brisbane is $144. Tossing up on whether to book this early or not.

        • +1

Yes. 2 return bookings, 1. Gold Coast - KUL return. 2. Kul - Phuket return. Need minimum approx 3 hours to allow for delays & comfortable transit at Kuala Lumpur (Immigaration x 2 and collect/recheck in baggage). Very small risk of course.
You could fly to Bali, and then Bali to Phuket/Kuala Lumpur with Airasia. This is the beauty of one-way fares with discount carriers. Lots of options. Online research at AirAsia web site needed.
