1Gb ram for win 8.1 is pain

    • +3

Already on this price from last boxing day. Agree, for $299 I prefer 2GB RAM. DVD writer or sleeve bag is not something crucial since I never write anything to DVD anymore. I always put my tablet/laptop in a backpack. Give something useful rather than dump unsold items, such as 32GB/64GB flash drive/microSD, microHDMI cable, etc..

      • Would you like a laptop case fries with that?

        • food is always good! but maybe not junk food.
          How about a 200grams steak?

Less powerful than an n28xx processor?

    • Most benchmarks have them on par with each other (Atom Silvermont vs Celeron n28xx). Difference is mainly the Atom runs a slower clock, with 4 cores as opposed to the Celeron with faster clock, 2 cores.

      • Thanks. N28xx is already too slow for me. Waiting for n29xx at $2xx.

        x-rated post :)

All for only 299 lol are you getting into comedy?

1GB DDR3 with a 10 inch display. Such a waste…this would actually be a reasonably good device if it had more RAM.

Would the HP Stream 11 a better value than this? currently $267 at Dicksmith with $20 discount voucher.

    • +2

It doesn't have a touchscreen, and the keyboard does not detach. Would be apples and oranges comparison. It does have 2GB of RAM and a years subscription of Office though, making it a decent purchase for anyone looking for a productivity machine.

That said, reviews have pointed out the HP stream 11 keyboard and touchpad is fairly mediocre, but it is a device that sells for $199USD in the US. At $267 I'd say its a reasonable price. Wouldn't touch it at $299 though.

        and slower cpu

The markups on these devices is very slim. And we've thrown in the extras to sweeten the deal. Please abstain from unfair comments.

Old Atom processor, low ram, low res display, very low res camers both front and back
And price is still $299, not a bargain.
Reasonably priced Cherry Trail tablets will enter market soon

Spend some more (less than 100) and get Asus T100 with 64gb storage, higher res display, recent Atom processor, better cams

      • How is the CPU "Old"? Baytrail's only out in 2014
        http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3735G-Tablet-SoC.11…
Its pretty much the same CPU as it is in your recommended Asus T100 bar lower clock and memory restrictions to 1GB.

        • Asus T100 has been refreshed with Z3775 and it has got 2GB RAM, better battery life

Even HP Omni 10 from Hardly Normal had Z3770 processor, 2GB RAM and full HD display and sold for $284
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176772

Atom processors in this age of tablets do get "Old" quickly. Intel has been slow in releasing Broadwell family chips including Cherry Trail but they are getting there now.

IMO get rid of the cheap peripherals and 'extras' and make it $10 cheaper if you can, $10 on the list price is worth more to most than some screen cleaner and software that there are perfectly good free-ware equivalents for.

      • We are offering the Nextbook Tablet-PC for $259. All you have to do is call us at (03) 8311 7612, 10am-6pm weekdays and we'll place an order for you. The price excludes shipping.

It's an ok deal, I got Acer Aspire Switch 10 with 2Gb RAM and no extras for about $20 more.

  • +1

I think this is a reasonable review of the product, cheap but heavy. poor battery life and subpar performance

I just have a bad experience with centrecom 2 day ago. bought an wifi adapter in the afternoon. when go home at night, check the price online and found that it s only half price. come back centrecom next morning to ask if I can get the different but they say no and tell me the price just change after I bought. so I tell them want to return it, they said ok, but only give me store credit, im ok for that but they not allow me to buy the same item with new price. jbhifi and dicksmith or hn is much better on this.

    • damn, that's really bad practice of them!
which centrecom store did you go to?

      • It s centrecom sunshine, head office. Spend more than $3k there in the last two years. But may not anymore. Store policy is bad But i like the nice and lovely asian girl at the counter. :)
