      Standard (but still cheap) price is $1400+ from MEL/BNE/SYD. Eg the best price flying United Mel->NYC at the moment is $1440, and mostly they are around $1600.

    Wouldn't it be cheaper to grab an LA flight, then commute locally across to NY?

      The cheapest flights LAX->NYC at the time are $297 USD return (about $361 AUD). So if you combine the $840 flights with those you get $1201. Unless by commute you mean drive…

      in 2013 when I went AUS - USA - EUROPE - USA - AUS, for the USA to Europe leg, I did NY to Dusseldorf return. Out of all the places in Europe i found Dusseldorf to be the cheapest to fly into.

        I presume that was Air Berlin. My parents did the same in 2013 (about 530 Euros return). Also you can fly open-jaw from Miami and NY for about the same price, so that opens up the US locations considerably.

      Not at the moment, but if I find some I will post them on OZBargain. Vietnam airlines has an advertised special to Frankfurt for around $1350, but I was not able to find any on the dates that I searched.

          With all these USA flight that are dirt cheap. It is seriously looking to be cheaper to fly via USA to europe. :O

          I suggested that $1350, is it was a return price was a good price.
          The best I can find at the moment ir roughtly $1100 one way
