[FREE] Bitfountain.io Android Immersive Course [Usually $149]

1840
presale

Hi aspiring Android developers,

By some amazing luck, the coupon for a 40% discount on the bitfountain.io full immersive Android course actually turned out to be free

I'm not sure how long this will last so there is no expiry date.

EDIT:

For those that do not know how to claim the coupon, you have to click Enrol for 149, and at the payment screen you can redeem a coupon. No credit card details are required

Cheers

EDITEDIT:

Huge thanks to drmac for pointing out that the same code can also be used for

http://bitfountain.io/courses/ios-design

Happy developing!

EDITx3: It appears that bitfountain has removed the courses from the accounts registered. Unfortunate, but I also hope this encourages people to buy the course to support these people :)

  • Good find OP!

    Thanks.

  • Looks good to me! Thanks for the deal

  • It worked! Thanks OP! Been wanting to get into Android dev! :)

  • Awesome!!

The code also works for the iOS Design Course with Sketch (usually $149)

      Excellent find!

      Thanks for this as well!

I'll reference this in the post :)

  • +2

thanks for the deal. are bitfountain training courses legitimately educational vs. a lot of the udemy 'free' courses that get posted on reddit.

    • +1

many of the free udemy courses are really bad. Would not purchase from that website with the amount of junk being sold there.

    • +2

I'm only about 10% completed through the iOS7 course and lesson is structured logically with assignments (+ answers) in between. The lectures themselves are well done with the option of 1x, 1.5x, 2x playback for those used to faster talking speed from university lectures.

And if you mean legitimately educational as in does it actually teach you programming basics of what it advertises, then yes, I would be inclined to say it is :)

  • THank you so much for sharing this! I have been waiting for a sale on the android and sketch course, and this is even better! :)

    • Haha, I was too! I was actually prepared to buy it just earlier, but to find it free was a pleasant surprise :)

  • Didn't realise I had an account already. Must've gotten a free deal for the ios7 immersive course some time ago. Thanks OP. Now I can develop for both platforms!

  • EDIT: Delete

  • +1

Has anyone found a way to download the videos? A moderator mentioned doing as such in a comment on the setup lecture in the Android course, but I can't find any option in the playback menu, and googling has failed me.

EDIT: never mind, a bit of Chrome-fu solved it.

    • +4

      Can you guide us how?

      • You can use chrome plugin like:video downloader professional
        Link:
        https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-downloader-p...

      • +1

        You can either

        • Go to a page with a lecture video on it, right click on the background and "inspect element". Do a search (ctrl+F) in the code window that pops up for "wistia_3_source" and that should give you the link to the .mp4 file.

        Or

        • Use a video downloader plugin or something like internet download manager.
  • Thanks been wanting to learn how to program apps, do people know roughly how long the course takes to finish?

    • +1

Pretty sure I read in the FAQ's it takes 1-2 months to complete, depending on much time you invest into it.

      • Thanks quite long but hopefully worth it :)

  • +1

I never knew there were so many developers in our midst!

  • Just enrolled in the wrong course. Now I can't join another course with the same code. Any ideas?

    • Just click on the link again. I enrolled in both the iOS Design and the Android Immersive courses. Took a couple of attempts.

  • +1

Anyone know if it's worth spending the time learning this over something like Phonegap where you can create cross-device apps using just HTML/CSS/JS etc…?

    Great find btw! :)

    • +2

It really depends on what type of apps you want to build. For apps that are mostly referencing, displaying and passing data/content, then phoegap is an excellent solution (and a good starting point to getting apps built), however, for any apps that need to do anything that's a bit trickier, like deeper access to hardware (e.g. more access to camera output's), advanced networking and media management, then you're better off going native.

Also, from our experience Phonegap apps are sometimes just not as polished as what can be achieved natively.

Whilst very successful in what it does, Phonegap can suffer from trying to be 'everything for all platforms' and needing to compromise in order to provide uniform cross platform functionality.

This is mainly from our experience with phone gap vs native iOS development, however the same will be true for Android.

You could look at doing both?

      • Awesome, thanks for the reply. Yeah I can imagine Phonegap could add a bit of overhead to everything as a bit of a trade off. I guess, like you mentioned, it probably depends on the complexity of the app as to which way you'd go. But yeah I'm sure it's useful to checkout this series as well as it probably has some good tips on how to approach the backend, using java :).

    • When it comes to building cross-platform apps the only way to go is Xamarin. Frameworks like phonegap are just awful because of their heavy use of HTML and Javascript. However Xamarin is coded in C# and compiles down to the platforms native binary code. You can even easily access native Android and iOS API within C# to make platform specific features within the cross-platform environment. Xamarin can also be plughed into Visual Studio to get all the benefits of Microsofts IDE.

TL;DR - to make the best apps learn each independent platform's language and its associated API. And if you want to build them within the same project/environment then learn Xamarin and C# as well.

(Xamarin means you can also build iOS apps on windows, however you still need an OSX environment to test)

  • Very impressive Android Course. Very easy to follow and goes at a good pace. I have the iOS 7 immersive and that was good too!

  • Awesome, been thinking about getting native, thanks!

  • Awesome find OP. Thank you.

  • How do you enroll to get code without providing credit card details.

  • Do you have to buy android studio 1.0 or is it included in the programme

  • what is the redeem code? I could not find it

  • Awesome find OP +1. Enrolled for the Android course. The same code doesn't work for iOS when tried it with my 2nd account. May be the iOS course offer is exhausted…

    • +1

Oops, sorry the code works working for iOS Design immersive course with 100% discount.

  • +4

I have had both courses removed from my account. The voucher now correctly takes 40% off the price when you try to check it out again.

    • Was just in the middle of doing a lecture and tried to proceed to the next one when discovered the same thing. This sucks…

    • Same here. Sad =(

  • Doesn't work anymore, it give $60 discount for Android course and for iOS nothing. They probably realized too many OZBargainers are registering :)

  • For me the ios design immersive comes down to 49 but isnt free. damn it looks like a good course. :(

  • +2

Hmmmmm the coupon giveth, and then site admins taketh away :(

Still I got a sneak peek at how good the course is (vs some others who shall remain unnamed) and they've potentially upset a few 100 new members if the number of clicks is to go by…

Instead of just yanking it away, perhaps an email saying 'we made a mistake, but we really want you to enjoy our lessons, you can have it for $60 using coupon code blah blah blah…' would have been nice and I'd probably have taken up the offer.

Shame the aussie dollar is dropping as the course works out to be a $108 and once you put it conversion rates will probably end up costing $120 (quite a stark difference to $0 before)

Fortunately there are other free android courses/videos/tutes out there for us to explore/look at.

  • Not working anymore. My course removed from my account. This deal is now should be change to $60 discount.

  • There's a post on their Facebook group that it was a bug in the underlying code due to an upgrade, and an email will be sent shortly to all affected users

  • +2

Bleh how annoying. Downloaded the first 2 chapters to use on the train. Dont suppose anyone is willing to share the remaining lessons?

Updates: It was a genuine error. Understandable.

    Hey, John from bitfountain here.

Yesterday while updating our platform, a bug was introduced that allowed some people to enroll in our paid courses for free using any coupon code.

You are getting this email because you were one of the users that enrolled. We removed you from the course. Although that may be infuriating, seem unfair, and/or confusing, let me explain the logic here: These courses take two people 4 months of full time work to create. We can't afford to give them away for free or else we won't be able to support ourselves for future course development. Hosting more students also means increased costs in bandwidth, as well as more time spent on our teachers' part supporting student questions. Without payment, we'd be drowning.

That said, we messed up. To reconcile, we are offering an additional $10 off the iOS and Android courses, so you'll get them cheaper than they've ever been sold ($79). Please use the code BUGCATCHERS or visit the links to purchase each course:

    Android Immersive

    iOS Immersive

    iOS Design Immersive

    The discount ends on Saturday.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this debacle!

    • +1

Got this in the email too. They removed all the enrolled courses using the code. That means you couldn't even use the code for one course, which kinda negates the whole offer.

Could have removed all except one if the original offer was true - must have drove a lot of traffic there.

      It's a $60 discount now.

    Too good to be true…

Not saying they are wrong. But if I'm to pay, I'll check options at the market.
The fact it was free, gave me an incentive to finally go check about something I should be doing for a long time, but since it's not the case anymore, I'll go back to my lazyness… :)

    • maybe time to get that procrastination book…

      • +2

        No….. Not yet

  • Hard to know whether it was a sneaky marketing campaign or a genuine error.

However the course looks pretty good and probably worth the fees and they've got to earn a living.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

  • Lol taken off the course, however it was bound to end up like my 300+ enrolled udemy courses…

Happy to share as a torrent?

      • Someone needs to start a torrent!

        • and that someone definitely should have an access to the contents i'd say.

    • Yeah, care to share? ;)

    Got a email:

I'd have thought it'd have cost them less to save face and let us do the course. How many of us would actually have done it; and what would it cost if we did?

How many will now pay since we can no longer do free, vs avoid them like the plague for screwing us around.

  • Should have downloaded the courses before they figure it out. Damn it

  • I think they should have let us have the course for free, in the hope that we would have done future courses and paid for them.

This is a bit lame really.

  • Revoked my vote.

  • What are legalities of this any legal eagel know ? thats like someone handing me a free sample at Wynard station and then just taking it off me because they stuff up !

  • +1

Now I'm getting spam from this turd and I can unsubscribe. Grrr.

  • +1

    It's a pity that it's gone.

Might as well try the Udacity course on Android, which is free to access. It only costs money if you want 1:1 help from instructors.

  • Already getting spam from them. No way to revoke the vote now :(

    • Press on the email preferences under the email and then tick not to receive emails from them in the forwarded website.

  • I've tried asking for some sort of additional discount, however it's a no-go (other than BUGCATCHERS). As for legality issues, even if you were to attend court, the legal fees will outweigh the value of the course (hearsay from a law student).
