Evolution 2 continues to reinforce our aim of introducing components, materials and production methods that are normally reserved for high end loudspeakers; and producing speakers that are not only affordable and practical, but have a great deal of value for money.

Most of the upgrades for the Evolution 2 series have been made internally, through the use of advance production techniques, better quality of materials and components. But it is the attention to detail that makes this series of speaker so desirable. Aesthetically, the speaker remains similar to the previous Evolution, smooth lines and a modern style allow the speakers to cater the tastes of today’s hi-fi enthusiast, and gives a performance with both film and music that is a rare find.

UV Stabilised Woven Kevlar Drivers: Bi-directionally woven and bonded with a special UV screen as part of our resin compound, the cone is light, strong and durable. The midrange voice coils are double wound to exceptionally tight tolerances. The result is a speaker with improved accuracy and better dynamic expression.

The 25mm Soft Dome Tweeter: The highest frequencies are handled by a soft dome driver. Our extensive research has proven these are a better choice than metallic based domes that typically add their own character to the treble. A feature of the tweeters, as with the mids, is wide dispersion and very low distortion, again typically less than 1% at 100dB in 1 metre. The unit features a high flux neodymium magnet structure, producing a typical efficiency of 93dB 1W@1m. This unit has a frequency response extending far beyond audible frequencies to around 45kHz.

Curved & Multi-braced MDF Cabinet: The enclosure of your speaker is finished to a high-quality furniture standard. Real wood veneers are selected and carefully pattern-matched by hand. Over a period of several days a high quality hard lacquer finish is achieved. This involves the application of several coatings of lacquers, each being cut and polished before the next coat is applied. Only through this time-consuming and skilled technique, can we achieve the deep and lustrous finish that is the characteristic hallmark of Wharfedale premium loudspeakers.

Instead of the usual cuboid shape, EVO loudspeaker cabinets feature a beautiful curvaceous design, with a special purpose - to reduce to negligible levels of internal cabinet standing waves and reflections. Skillful engineering in ’MDF’ (Medium Density Fibre Board), universally known to be one of the best enclosure materials, has resulted in an ideally shaped, very strong, internally multiple braced, low resonance structure. Parallel-sided tall boxes promote the creation of unwanted acoustic waveforms within the box by the reflection that goes up and down its length. The curved and braced interior of the EVO cabinet prevents this – resulting to a soundstage of unexampled clarity and precision with pinpoint imaging, even frequency distribution and inherently low coloration.

Oversized spike & terminals: Oversized spikes are included with all the floorstanding models to reduce to an absolute minimum the dissipation of energy through the floors. As well as being a nice aesthetic detail, these serve to improve dynamic attack and more generally improve detail in the bass region. We used heavy duty, gold-plated and screened terminals which can accept 4mm banana plugs or bare wire, if you prefer.

Are these the same ones? If so; only $799, not $1499

Please click the link you posted. Here, I'll do it for you…..

"NEW WHARFEDALE EVO Signature 10 BookShelf Speakers - Walnut Veneer RRP $1,499"

The model they have listed is the older "signature" series anyway.

So, we are STILL $300 cheaper than their discounted price.

Your normal selling price is more relevant. Still looks a good price for some excellent speakers

It's only RRP. It has no meaning.
For example I found it here it says recommended retail price of USD$460 http://www.audioreview.com/cat/speakers/bookshelf-speakers/w…

        I agree Kanasuke.

I do like that vendors are jumping in and adding bargains for the ozbargain community so I don't want this to sound ungrateful however it would probably be better to put in a "normally sells for" type price rather than an RRP and go saying it's $1000 off - sounds too much like a Harvey norman tv add to me :)

Anyway thanks for the bargains just some constructive feedback. I do feel people are sometimes a bit too harsh on here too so I've tried to deliver it in a constructive way.

        Cheers,
        Bogrolls.

in US, the speakers are way cheaper than AU, even worth to pay for postage from US in many cases.
so, to compare prices, AUD price is valid, unless you're moving to US.
this regional price differences are wide spread.

        • +2

Speakers are always half the price in the US. Factor in exchange rate, tax, and shipping to Australia.

I listened to these a few years ago and they are great speakers, but were out of my price range at the time.

Size-wise they are surprisingly deep, but front-vented so you can have them pretty much pushed up against a wall without issues. The piano rosewood veener is gorgeous.

I'd say it's definitely a bargain because I think you'd be hard pressed finding anything as good under $500 delivered.

      • yes, but harvey norman sell most things for RRP unless on sale.

  • The RRP price was 6 year old when they first released.

    10 bookshelf speakers for $499?

  • Rep, how does these compared with the Quad 12L ?

    • That's a tough one to answer. Speakers are very personal. What one person may like another might not. I personally prefer the Evo 210 myself.

      • Your normal price isn't so tough to find, is it? I can feel a revoke coming on.

      • Any chance that you can do the Quad 12L at the same $499?

      • You don't have the Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary edition?

  • Very tempting, they're a great looking speaker in the rosewood finish. A shame there aren't many reviews online though, I'm not really finding much info about how they sound.

  • Is this price cost of one speaker or a pair?

    • one pair. It says so in the title descriptions above.

Normal price (Google Cached 20th January) $699

    • Who are the retailers who sell this online? I Google…seems not many people carry this

Pity the OP wasn't as forthcoming. Good deal soured by the ludicrous use of RRP and his unwillingness to be upfront with punters. You might get away with it instore, you won't here.

      • You logged in today not to clarify or apologise but just to neg me? Pathetic. Won't ever get my business.

  • I sent a PM to the OP on Friday asking for further details about the finishes available, never got a reply. Speakers are now back to their original price, rather disappointing…
