Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Visa $0 Annual Fee 1st Yr + up to 25,000 Bonus Velocity Points

230

I'm still an infrequent poster so hope this deal is posted correctly.

Found this much better deal lurking in the fine print for the more widely publicised 20,000 bonus points offer. It's a much easier spend requirement for a larger number of points and a longer balance transfer period too.

  • Earn up to 25,000 bonus Velocity Points

    • Get 5,000 bonus points for every $500 or more you spend each month within the first 5 months of card approval. Up to a total of 25,000 Velocity Points

  • 0% p.a. for 9 months on balance transfers

  • Earn Velocity Points on your everyday spend

    • If you fly with Virgin Australia, buy with the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card and you'll earn 1 Velocity Point per $1 spent up to $15,00 per month and then 1 Velocity Point for every $2 spent.

  • $0 annual fee for your first year

    • $0 annual fee in your first year. That's a saving of $129. This offer is only available if you apply from this page.

  • Fly together and save - Exclusive reduced flights offer when you and a friend travel together on Virgin Australia domestic Saver fares up to 4 times a year

  • Previous deal was only 20,000 points and it required you to spend $5000 in 3 months, so 25,000 points for spending $2500 in 5 months is much more achievable. The B1G1F(+taxes) domestic flights is good too.

    • What % of total price is taxes though?

Any time I've bought a ticket from an airline with points, I feel like I've been done dry.

      • It gets better, it's not valid for "sale" flights.

      • Yeah it's more like being able to get good sale fares whenever you want, rather than actual half price. I booked two return fares to PER-MEL for a total cost of $572 (or $143 per seat each way). Each flight included $65 in fees and taxes, so it worked out to 43% off, rather than the 50% of B1G1F.

It is only for full price fares, so if you're flexible about when you fly you obviously could get better prices with Tiger or Jetstar. I prefer to be able to choose the exact flights I want (as I often want to avoid red eye flights or taking additional annual leave in order to take advantage of a sale fare), and the peace of mind of not having to wait for a sale to get my flight booked, plus Virgin is my preferred carrier so it works out well for me.

  • 25,000 points is redeemable for about $100-150 of gift cards, so it's like getting the next year's fees of $125 in gift cards!

  • oh no looks like I just missed this one :(

    • How so? Have until end of March to apply.

      • Because just applied for another VA one ;)

  • Be aware that Virgin credit cards are issued by Citibank. Last time I already held a Virgin card, applied for a Citibank card, they automatically cancelled my Virgin card without notifying me. I lost the BOGOF flight privileges as a result. YMMV.

Not to derail, but is this worthy of posting: ANZ Frequent Flyer CC with 50k bonus points after making an eligible purchase. The only catch is a $95 annual fee but even taking this into account you will still be $250 ahead. http://promo.anz.com/credit-cards/frequent-flyer-cards/?cid=…

    • Are Virgin and Qantas points of roughly equal value?

      • Depends what you use them for. If you only want to convert to vouchers, then I think Qantas are more valuable. If, however, you want to use them for flights, then I think Velocity is more generous (especially in that their 'fees and taxes' required alongside your points spend is much lower).

    • I think I applied for this promo last time… which falls within the 6 month period.
