isn't the trolley hire always free?

    • Trolleys are only free if you are within the sterile area for International Arrivals.

Once you're "landside", forget about it.

This is free trolleys at kerbside arrivals, so you can unload your car onto a troley and wheel it the 10-100m to the check-in desk. That's what the free one is for in this case.

      • -2

@dreebles, trolley hire has been free for over a year. Sydney Airport no longer charges for trolley hire.

        • +1

Uhhh can someone tell that to the domestic airport side then? They most definitely charge for trolley hire there.

Most of the cards only get 2 entries per calendar year. Only these cards get unlimited access:
American Express Centurion, American Express Platinum, American Express Business Centurion and American Express Business Platinum Card Members

    • Maybe Its time to upgrade my amex gold to platinum?

  • +1

For all other eligible cards, you get 2 entries per year. I wonder if this is 2 entries for the account, or 2 entries per cardholder (on the same account)?

    • 2 entries per account. " All other eligible cards are entitled to two (2) entries into The American Express Lounge per calendar year (1st January to 31st December) for each American Express Card account"

Good find - perfect for stocking up on food before jumping on my Jetstar sale fare to Hawaii

    • or stocking up on mixers to go with your duty free.

    How bout additional card holders?

    • I believe if you have a card, you just need to flash it.
So additional card holders should just flash their cards

      • I've heard report they do swipe the card but additional card seems to swipe ok.

      • I can confirm additional card holders are allowed. SWMBO and I took 3 guests into the lounge (1 under my card, 2 under hers) last weekend. Went in a few minutes apart as I had to buy something at the shop. In both instance the agent entered our details into the system and we had to sign a docket so it's not just a matter of flashing the card.

  • Is this offer available to the cardholder + one guest or just the cardholder?

  • No expiry?

  • Westpac altitude black Woohoo ;)

I wonder if "American Express® Platinum Card" includes American Express Platinum Edge?

    • +4

It doesn't. Gotta be a full platinum Amex-issued card, or a Black/higher card issued by a Bank.

      • Yeah. I'm all sad now :(

      • Looks like the annual fee for eligible cards is $350-$4k! ouch

        • +1

I got the ANZ amex black fee free last year…and their is a fee free deal on atm for it

        • @MelbBargainChaser77: Can you kindly share the link? Thanks!

        • @muncan:
I can't see anything about the annual fee waiver when I click though on the frequent flyer deal, has this ended?

        • @powerhammer: Yeah that was back in the good ol' days…
          FF:

This offer is available when you apply and are approved for a new ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card account by 26 August 2014.

          Rewards:

Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card account by 27 October 2014

        • @muncan:So my $80 a year platinum reward card should get me entry into Amex lounge? Sweet. I will be going overseas in few weeks so will give it a try; will also try and see if wifey additional card is also eligible?

        • @lokesh7: Nope…

          (b) The cards listed below that are current and issued by licensed network partners are eligible to enter The American Express Lounge:

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black American Express Card,
ANZ Rewards Black American Express Card,

[Edit after your reply below]: whoops, sorry I thought we were still talking ANZ cards. Yep the AMEX issued Platinum is on the whitelist.

        • @muncan:but my card is direct amex issued

        • @muncan:
          thanks

Went in this Lounge just before New years. My fiance has an American Express Velocity Platinum Card, which gives two single passes per year to the lounge, which meant she used them both on our entry.

It's smallish, but a pretty nice lounge for what its worth (though we enjoyed the Singapore Silverkris lounge more), with some tap beers and barista-made coffee. A few breakfast options and snacks available when we went. Excellent service (especially from front desk, who rigorously check the access manifest and swipe the eligible amex cards). Alright views of the tarmac, too. The only drawback for us was the, uh, less than private toilets (just one sheet of frosted glass between cubicles and the catering end of the lounge), and the lack of a shower as well. On the whole - thumbs up!

    • just one sheet of frosted glass between cubicles and the catering end of the lounge

lolwut? That's ridiculous. Thanks for the info :)

    • Also: Don't forget to press the LOCK button when you use the facility otherwise the light stays green from the outside and embarrassment ensues with a push of a button.

    Also free trolley hire

    Yay ! Up yours Macquarie

    • +3

Hardly. These are operated by Smarte Carte, who are undoubtedly paying Mac Airports a lot of cash to be there.

And i'm willing to bet that Amex are paying Smarte Carte. If you think Macquire is in any way losing out, you're well off the path (unfortunately).

  • For anyone that previously applied for the ANZ Qantas Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards cards back in the day (August/October 2014) to get the 50000 points, if you already have a credit limit of $15000, I believe you can simply ask to change over to the Black without having to incur an annual fee.

You will probably be able to get the lounge access pass. I plan to try it shortly.

    • let us know how you go. i think you will be hit with an annaul fee unless you make a new application.

      • Ok, called up to try. They said no because the difference in annual fee is too great (to go from ANZ Rewards to ANZ Rewards Black), but they were willing to go from ANZ Rewards to ANZ Rewards Platinum for me. Doesn't help me with the lounge thing, but I guess it's a higher earn rate which will be good.

Also keep in mind that if you haven't been credited with your bonus points yet, you might want to wait for them to come through before changing cards (otherwise your bonus 50000 points may not come through).

  • How do they give you "express Customs"? What do they do? Bribe the staff?

    • +1

Select American Express Card Members can access the Express Path lane – a fast track through outbound immigration and security screening. Simply present your eligible Card and valid boarding pass at the Express Path entry. Access with an eligible American Express Card can only be granted when an Express Path pass has not been issued by a participating airline*.

      • It was a total rort. We received invited from being in business class in an SIA flight. Basically, Express Path uses the counters for SmartGate rejects so those desks get used instead of sitting around doing nothing. They also put big groups through there. We got stuck behind a plane load of kiwi school kids, and it ended up being as slow as the regular lanes.

        • +1

think you were just unlucky to be behind a group of school kids.

    • +1

Amex, a tenant of Sydney Airport, negotiated some Express Path access benefits for some of its customers.

This is similar to existing Express Paths given to frequent flyers by their airlines.

    • +2

I thought it was bloody fantastic. There are times of the day when it's pretty unnecessary but if you are travelling at a peak time, it saves a fair whack of time.

My wife was Platinum on Qantas (I'm lowly Gold…) and they handed out passes for the Express line, and we were in a hurry to get to try the 1st class lounge so every minute counted!

I would say this is a pretty good perk

AMEX lounge can become new OzBargain meeting point lol

        • I'll definitely be there in a few weeks!

  • Is there anything similar in melbourne ie even with the 1-2 passes. How about KL. Will be there in few months.
    Thanks

Look at the Citi Bank Signature Rewards card, it includes lounge access for a number of international terminals but the only one in Australia, is in Melbourne :-)

  • +1

I wanna travel just to use this :)

My AMEX (which I got free on a deal here a couple years ago) is the best thing I've got from Ozbargain.

    • One of these eligible cards was ever free?

      They're all pretty premium cards.

      • If you get a mortgage with ANZ, you can get Black card for free as long as you join the breakfree package, which has an annual fee of $375.

      • Damn, you're right. I only have a gold. Cheers

Why do I feel obsessed over these lounge access deals? I am not a frequent flyer. I might travel internationally maybe once a year or once in two years. But this deal still got me excited (I only just got the Commbank diamond AMEX). And I always spend time looking at other such lounge related deals. I know it is totally irrational, but I still get some pleasure over knowing that I might be able to access this lounge even though I would probably never use it (I fly out of Brisbane). The closest answer I can come up with is that I don't actually value the lounge access as much as the sort of lifestyle it represents (high flying successful globe trotter). Does anyone else feel this way?

    • i get pleasure knowing i get access to the lounge (as I travel a 1-3 times a year) but I dont "feel obsessed" or "always spend time looking"…

and personally i definitely dont think these lounges represent anything that special… every man and his dog can get a credit card these days

but on another note… I do feel I am obsessed with OzBargain in general… (not lounge specific deals)

    • No different to people that live near a beach because they love the beach but never go…. but they know they "could" go to the beach if they wanted.

  • Aaaargh well I have a Japan trip coming up and thought "yes!", I can use my black card I got c/o Oz bargain to enter the free lounge before I get on my Jetstar deal to Japan I found through ozbargain!
*I was already planning on what I'm eating and drinking! except the jetstar deal I have to fly domestic to transit to the Gold Coast first :((

    • doh! I'm on the same type of flight as you. So the SYD to OOL is domestic then OOL to NRT (or wherever in JP) is international?

  • It has 3 of the Big 4 banks. Where is NAB?
