  • any mac versions? thx

    • FAQ listed in the OP lists system requirements.

Are we sure it is unlimited? Mine says 5.0GB of 5.0GB left.

    • after you enter the code, the 5.0gb of 5.0 code is greyed out

    • did you get this to work? mine appears the same, counting down from 5.0gb

Not that I'll probably need more than 5gb, but am I doing it wrong?

      • +1

Seems like a silly design choice, it makes you think it is a countdown of your allocated data.

        • Also ocmments from previous deals suggest that some people have had that text box state something along the lines of "Flatrate unlimited".

        • @RJK:

This isn't unlimited. I just got a prompt to buy more data.

        • @Juddy: And to think people had originally negged you for asking!

        • @RJK: Some people are a little to liberal with their use of the neg system.

        • out of curiosity, followed the link to top up anyways, takes me to page that advertised for unlimited at $4.95 instead of $69.95 for a year, clicked "buy" and takes me to another page for $69.95 followed by a second line/item in the cart with a discount of $69.95, so it became $0. Followed through with the checkout entering fake details, received a key for activation on the next screen.

applied the key in the VPN app, and instead of 0.0MB out of 5.0GB, it now says "You are a flat rate user! Thank you"

hope you may have the same luck :)

Coupon: OKCRIMBO2014 only enter this if you don't get a discount line item.
Currency: AUSTRALIA else it may end up not being $0 at checkout

I'm using this from the last freebie deal. Work pretty well, as good as or better than Cyberghost

      Works waaaaay better than HMA.

  • Same.
Gotta love free VPNs. Nice one

Chrome says its malware when I downloaded it.
Edit. My bad - clicked on wrong link at cnet … better get it direct

  • Why not just use Hola?

    • I could be wrong, but Hola only works through the web browser. So if you have other apps that you'd like to use over VPN you need an app like this one.

      • Good point. That's when I use VPNBook (always free open VPN) http://www.vpnbook.com/

But I only ever occasionally need to use a VPN outside of a browser.

  • Thanks OP.

Do these guys keep logs? How secure is the service?

    • I had a quick read through their Privacy Policy

"The OkayFreedom-Service saves neither the addresses nor contents that the user calls up, nor the IP addresses that OkayFreedom has allocated, nor their own IP address that they use on OkayFreedom"

      but they do use cookies

"The OkayFreedom website uses cookies to record location information in order to adjust the representation of websites to the user profile."

  • Why do you need to use Windows software for this? Can't you just change your DNS settings? Does anyone know?

    • +2

VPN is not the same as DNS redirect.

    • VPN is different to DNS. VPN is about encrypting traffic primarily for privacy reasons, but can get around geoblocking.

There are a number of different VPN protocols. Some of the VPN clients are built into Windows networking, so don't need a separate client. This guide explains it better than me:
      http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles-tutorials/firewalls_a…

OkayFreedom uses OpenVPN, and since it's not built into Windows then the client is needed to do the 'handshaking' with outside servers so that traffic to and from the computer can be encrypted.

    • DNS Servers replaces your dns servers.

      VPN replaces your network interface.

      • Huge BlSht, but nobody's perfect :)

  • My brother is going to China, does this allow him to access Google, Facebook, etc?

    • It should do, I used a Cisco VPN service to get Facebook etc through my university while i was there.

China has been blocking VPNs lately. They are blocking new VPN providers every week.

i just returned from china recently. the answer is no, it didn't work.

  • Many thanks for this, installed it on a friend's computer. Given you a +ve.

So far the automatic or "on demand" mode doesn't seem to work. It's meant to activate when when browsing to sites with geoblocking, or region blocking. So far testing with Hulu in this mode gets the standard 'Sorry, currently our video library can only be watched from within the United States', and going to Hulu with OkayFreedom set to "ON" leads to the message that we're connecting via an anomymous proxy. Perhaps there's DNS leakage? I'll have to look at IPLEAK.net later.

I had a few problems with it crashing, or giving errors when attempting to connect to the 'Fastest Server': it says that the installation has been damaged, and wants to run the setup again. It's a newly installed PC without any competing VPN software.

Friend only needs it for torrenting.

    • Originally tried with utorrent (2.2.1) with the net.bind_ip and net.outgoing_ip set to the VPN, but torrents ran regardless of the VPN being on or off.

Set him up with qBittorrent > Advanced > Interface > OkayFreedom VPN (by default called Local LAN Connection 2) - confirmed it only works with VPN set to 'ON'. Turning the VPN off immediately cuts off torrents. Seem to have to restart qBittorrent to get it started again though.

qBittorrent is great for letting you select a particular interface, but I can't offhand see how you'd use it for an SSTP VPN.

    • Just a warning: the browser plugin is actually some adware/toolbar crap for coupon codes.

      • I discovered the same. Uninstall the browser plugin, the app works fine without it.

  • Can this be used for Netflix?

  • I can access Netflix from my computer however cannot access via wifi. Any suggestions?

  • This deal "theoretically" the same as the WindowsDeals.com one, some days ago… So I'll post the same comment.

    HEY THERE!
Just be aware that you get a version of FoxyDeal, disguised as OkayFreedom extension on your browser.
While it says it's an extension to help you switch locations, etc, in fact it's just a bloody ADWARE!

I'm still considering if I'm going to uninstall the whole thing, or just disabling the extension will work for me. Can you trust a VPN that pushes you an ADWare (it's not like those apps that "silently" pushes you something that you didn't noticed during the installation, it's FoxyDeal, and it's embedded using OkayFreedom name on it).

    • everything will be done on OkayFreedom website? You download and get the code from that website. How could it be FoxyDeal? Could you explain a bit more?

Edit: don't worry about it! Just got it installed. I think if you serious about it just get everything un-install otherwise unable FoxyDeal. It works just fine without FoxyDeal

  • speed is good enough to stream YouTube via American sever so I think it should be able to handle HD on Netflix :)

Adware, suggests "coupons" that actually make hotels (in my case) more expensive. Probably spying on you as well.

  • this looks like a great deal to me, thanks OP. have started using as of this AM, and so far am happy with perf.

Can someone explain a bit more about how to locate this FoxyDeal crap? I can't find a component in appwiz.cpl, and have disabled the "OkayFreedom" Chrome extension. I dl/installed from TA's 2ndary link : https://file.steganos.com/software/downloader/okay8/okayfree…, rather than use CNets lame download helper garbage.

Few of my standard arsenal of mal/ad ware tools dont find anything related to Foxy/Okay.

With that big one eye on their website, they might be in bed with the five eyes.

Use this free and secure VPN service instead.
