Not much of a deal at $39 IMO.
    - The dumb charger should be free so you can bin it.
    - without the charger, its $39 for 12 batteries, when 8 are often $14.

Upshot if the image and blurb are right, the tropicals here are Gen 3, so made in Japan.

  • Charger is regularly $15 (two recent examples —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180684 and https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174414). So $31 for 8 x Eneloop AAs. How is this a deal again???

    • 12 AAs you mean?

$14.95 charger came with 4 batteries

      • 12 AAs you mean?

Nope. Unfortunately just the 8. As jmeister eluded to the $15 charger already came with 4 batteries.

  • Sanyo Eneloop with 4 X AAA, 8 X AA, and charger is $38 in Costco Auburn. Not sure about others. Not a bargain as such though includes the Japanese made batteries as opposed to the Chinese Panasonic Eneloops.

    • costco ones are made in Japan too.

Ever had a remote control (TV, DVD player etc) wrecked by a leaking battery? Eneloops (and NiMh batteries in general) don't leak when they go flat.

Also useful for wall clocks, torches, electric shavers, electric toothbrushes, cordless computer mice, etcetera.

The biggest use by far, is for kid's toys (if you have kids). Saves a bundle of money each year.

They are also good for cameras. I won't buy cameras with Lithium-ion batteries, because the batteries only last a few years, and many of them are not buyable a few years later. For example, I have a perfectly good 5MP Sony camera that you can no longer buy the battery for, so it's useless.

Great for camera flashes - in fact better performance than most non-rechargeable batteries. And much cheaper. Four Eneloop AAs are frequently cheaper than four Lithium AAs.

And if you put them in everything, getting rid of ALL non-rechargeable batteries, then you have a ready source of replacements at hand. Mouse battery just died? Borrow one from the TV remote control, or the torch, or whatever.

If you don't regularly go through AA & AAA batteries then you don't need Eneloops and you're not missing anything.

The biggest use is wireless controllers. 4 controllers = 8 batteries. Another 8 for the wii, plus a few more for all the TV and DVD remotes in the house.

      • Ok, thanks guys.

    • I put in two Eneloops in a pair of wireless headphones about a month ago and they have not needed recharging since. I use them every night for 4ish hours a time. I was using Energizers beforehand and they constantly needed charging.

So I'm now a big fan of Eneloops.

      Hope this helps.

Over months other brands that are not LSD, will need recharging even without use. Thats the benefit of LSD cells. They are lower capacity than others as a consequence.

I use them for all my photography gear: Speedlites, intervalometers, torches and other lighting.
Then, in all my keyboard and mouse while I'm doing post processing.
Then, a stack for just about everything you need batteries for around the house, remotes, wii controllers, and other general things. Keep an empty box and a charged box and just charge up the empties if you run low.
You can grab them very very cheap in sales, and you'll never have to buy batteries again!
