MOD: We have been contacted by the marketing company representing Cadbury in this promotion, who have requested to have this "deal" removed, as using extract of the voucher is fraudulent, which we agree with. The barcode was only given to the participants of this Coles competition, which everyone can participate.

We have now removed the barcode. Please do not share it on OzBargain. For more details on this removal request, see this page.

I'm pretty sure beep n go uses your built infra red transmitter because I see the IR light flashing and phone vibrating when I use it a store.

    Wow nice find :)

Can confirm this works. My bro didn't believe me so we took a trip out to Coles just so he could see it himself

Might try this at Ingle Farm SA.
They've got two Coles in the same centre fairly close to each other (one used to be a BiLo [R.I.P])

    •

"They've got two Coles in the same centre fairly close to each other (one used to be a BiLo [R.I.P])"

Another place this applies, for any interested Victorians in or traveling to the area, is Northcote Plaza. There's an awesome/huge park 'attached' to that plaza too (it's seriously large), so the whole 'mission' is very kid/family friendly. If I had three young kids who would find the 'epic free chocolate mission' fun, and 1 cat, I'd go to Northcote Plaza with 16 printed vouchers, the three kids, and $12.80 in separate 80-cent lots… I'm sure you get the drift from here (the cat stays home, but DOES get bought a lot of 80-cent cans of cat-food that day). The cat-food you would've bought anyway/keeps forever, and the $32-'worth' (RRP) of different bars is free. Then we all go to the park, and laugh ourselves silly.

In what universe is a 30g chocolate bar a medium?

    •

      I think Flakes are 30g

      •

Yes they are. (Have one in the fridge.)

  •

nice saved :) load up on cherry ripes on the weekend :)

  •

can you use these with normal staff…for example just produce voucher and go to every member of staff? or would only self service work for this

    •

You could do that as long as they know what they are doing but if they start asking other staff members what this coupon is then likely they will recognise you at different counters which may look a little sus. But still worth a try! And probably worth to try at different times of the day. I wouldn't recommend trying to get more than a 1 to a few bars with each staff at a time otherwise you will really stand out!

      •

doesn't help i'm 6"4 i REALLY stand out anyway ….just get my wife to come and we'll grab a few from each coles in the area haha :)

  •

I used a printout today without any trouble. I was initially planning to just get a bar on special but there were some other Cadbury chocolates on special which I buy anyway so I got the benefit as an extra special discount.

    •

      Spend over $5? :)

      • +2 votes

I did actually. I guess I'll go and enter the relevant competition.

  •

Yep deal works..me and mrs used one each in seperate transactions. the girl just scanned them straight through. (no needing authority as previously mentioned)

Take the chocolate bar to the checkout cashier. Hand the voucher over.

Guy takes a look at the voucher, says "Um, I don't think this will work on the small bars, the big ones maybe."

Tries scanning the voucher in a perfunctory manner.

    beep

    Total $0.00

"Oh okay, um, see you later I guess"

  •

    Worked perfectly. Thanks OP

  •

A lady just asked me for a print out, luckily she still let me have it as I didn't have one. Had no issues the first 3 times

Cadburry doesn't like this and sending threats. https://www.topbargains.com.au/coles-free-medium-cadbury-cho...

    •

Lol, you'd think they'd at least not make sharing the image as simple as copying a url.

Remember when Cadbury sued over use of "their" colour purple?

      Edit: removed direct url link

Hopefully we people who enter the comp can still get free chocolate :)

    •

I think we're way beyond the comp now foodie… soz. :P

I ozbargained the crap out of this at least three times today! When I go across the street to grab I don't know what from woolies, might pop into the coles express

  •

    Nuked!

  •

Seriously, Cadbury should spend more effort like 7-11 and none of this would've happened.

  •

Got 2 bars today from 2 Coles stores. Having read all the posts today I feel like a rank amateur though.

    •

Yeah man, you got ripped. ;P

  •

It worked for me, however for some reason the self checkout could not read the barcode from my mobile (Nexus 4) and I had to enter it manually. I also bought ~$10 of other stuff too.
The staff member verified my purchase and looked at the coupon (that was on my mobile).

  • +1 vote

Just got two free bars. The self check out assistant didn't even ask to see my coupon. Could have gotten more but I felt bad making her come over to approve each one.

  •

    good deal

    •

Spend $5, get it legitimately :)

  •

Entered details via competition form with fake receipt num. Now waiting for their email coupon.
How long it takes for email? And can they accept the voucher if I just shiw it via mobile?

  •

The new coupon when you enter from now on says:

Coles staff, please check that customer ID matches the following name: xxx xxx. Refer to terms and conditions at the bottom of the page.

    •

They don't care anyway lol. They just approve it

    • +1 vote

      Re this:

"Coles staff, please check that customer ID matches the following name: xxx xxx."

The actual image that downloads to print, when you download it to print it as instructed, does not include this directive to 'Coles Staff'. I assume this is because it would be ridiculous/unworkable to have the self-checkout staff checking IDs, like gimps at a night-club or sommat'!… So don't worry. Proceed as usual, with the minimalist version of the printed voucher (consisting of just the bar-code/number, and the "$1 off Cadbury" slogan).

  •

Wait, is there a new coupon?

    • +1 vote

Same coupon barcode for me they just added in an Id check but doesn't matter I think

  • +5 votes

if you search for a place where it's like cash, but using something you would use to get icecream out of the tub, you will find the voucher still listed…

  •

Been using twice a day for the last few days. Loving the savings and the look on the staff members face when it's their first time and realize it's free

    •

One staff member response: "Wow dude how'd you do that?"

  •

I got told the following today:

    1) These are only available at Coles Express
    2) I had to buy the confectionary range, and that Cadbury Medium bars are not included
    3) I needed to print out the whole email in its entirety. No email, screenshots, or partial printouts are allowed

I gave up trying to argue with the elderly people at Coles, so moved on to another store where they allowed me to claim my free bars.

    • +1 vote

You probably already know but the text at the bottom of the voucher states:

Voucher valid for a single purchase from the CADBURY confectionery range via Coles or Coles Express outlets. Includes CADBURY Blocks, Sharepacks, Bitesize, Bars, Gifting or Pre-teens (Caramello, Freddo, Chomp, Curly Wurly). Excludes Cadbury Easter range. No refunds if product is less than $1. One voucher per QUALIFYING PURCHASE. Offer Valid from 4/2/2015 to 31/3/2015.

      Third point fair enough.

      •

Yup! All I wanted was one choc bar. But some stores make it too hard.

        • +1 vote

In my experience a certain type of people are terrible at honouring deals. They'll pull any excuse out of their backside to weasel out of a deal.

They don't seem to have a concept of customer service/goodwill and act like the difference is coming out of their pay-cheque.

        •

@Scrooge McDuck: totally agree. I don't understand why anyone would upset a customer over such a small item.

I had one keep mumbling "so not worth losing my job over" over and over again. Makes me wonder if there was any communication from Cadbury or even Coles head office

      •

        "Third point fair enough."

I think not. When you download the voucher via the email they send you, as they instruct you to do, i.e. so that you can print it and use it, it doesnae include your name or any of that crap about the staff-member checking that your ID matches the name; only the actual voucher/barcode/number is downloaded.

    •

Was also annoying when the checkout operator accepted the voucher, it added the 1c which Coles stupidly has in their system for vouchers but didn't automatically take off the $1. The operator then tells you the total, you stand there puzzled wondering what key you need to tell the operator to press to get the real, final total while the queue builds behind you.

Anyone know what key they need to press to finalise the transaction and factor in any coupons (for next time, so we customers can educate the staff)?

      • +1 vote

        Just proceed to payment afaik

      • +2 votes

Once they press "Payment" on the screen, it will deduct the $1 voucher.
        (I work at coles)

        •

Thanks. Presumably some don't know to do it -before- telling the customer the total for payment ;-(

  • +1 vote

Such a sad day.. Walked into Coles to get my free bar and the bars are no longer on special, so I just walked out empty handed :(

    •

You might be able to try a Freddo or caramello koala, they might just cost over a dollar. At my local coles, the caramellos are $1.05 so 5c isn't bad. They are 45g. Haven't tried it yet but should work, will report back if I have a chance to try.

YEAH!!!!! Thanks for the tip!! :) Im going to print the entire email with my full name this time just in case they check!

      •

Competition entrants who go the original vouchers would still be able to use them (original vouchers) so shouldn't be an issue.

        •

Why not just use your phone?

        • +2 votes

@powerhammer: because you just know one of the predictable excuses for refusing the claim is: "you need to print it out."

        • +2 votes

@tdw: and also it makes it easier not having multiple staff play with your phone whilst trying to weasel out of a deal. A physical piece of paper is often worth "more" to the checkout operators

        •

@t25: and for more "cred", print it out on a colour laser printer if you can, lest you be accused of photocopying an emailed voucher lol

        •

          @t25:

"A physical piece of paper is often worth "more"…"

Wise words… a 'real' picture (on paper) can be worth 1000 words/characters on a 'transient display'… I guess the (admittedly somewhat outdated) logic is that it's pretty hard to 'hack' ink on a piece of paper.

    •

Does 99c bar + 1c from scanning in the voucher count as $1.00? As the min total is $1 before the voucher can be used.

      • +1 vote

I believe it deducts the 1c at payment.
Well it worked for me last time

      •

99c bar last time was fine so should be ok. Other wise get two (at least one will be free)

      • +4 votes

i've had a few checkout ops try to tell me my purchase had to be greater than an unspecified amount. i asked them where it says that and they couldn't answer. got my free choccy bar albeit grudgingly lol

        • +2 votes

thats a new one. telling customers there is a minimum spend. i wonder what would happen if you bought a chupa chop and returned it straightaway

        • +1 vote

Are you buying just one item in your transaction? If so, try not to get one bar/item and then ask for it free. Retailers won't like that for some reason ;-) If at one store, could be that a customer p1$$ed off a store manager so they might be try to manually enforce the $1 t&c

Buy with another item(s) you need or use self-serve. Psychology of trouble free bargain rules apply…

        • +1 vote

@t25: i also got: "you need to buy these items (shown on the voucher) to get $1" off. basically any weasel excuse lol

@daydream: yes. just the 1 bar. why buy anything else i don't need when i already did my main grocery shop before. it's just pandering to what the retailers want and hoping they'll show mercy when you claim your freebie lol.

most don't have a problem, some even thought it was quite amusing. i don't think it's got anything to do with store manager/customer politics — it's just down to that individual who looks down on anyone legitimately getting an item for free. and believe me, i've claimed enough freebies from various places to know That Look.

        • +1 vote

@tdw: how about the "this is only at Coles express" despite the big Coles logo on the voucher.

        •

@t25: lol not yet, but give 'em time ;)

        •

          @tdw:

I wouldn't buy anything I didn't need but I prefer to make it easy for myself rather than waste time with a debate at a checkout. Easy enough given the number of items people buy and number of times they go to a supermarket these days. Applying the same logic you suggested above re: printing and using colour. We know the psychology and how these things can play out ;-)

        •

@daydream: it's no guarantee that you'll be making it "easier" for yourself. it's all down to which checkout op you get.

and it's different with the printing, as i pay far, far less for a sheet of A4 b&w than it would for me to buy something i don't need at coles. not everyone has the same spending habits and i certainly spend enough money at coles as it is.

        •

          @t25:

"thats a new one. telling customers there is a minimum spend."

When using EFTPOS or a CC in small or remote businesses, throughout the last 30 years or so, many have specified a minimum spend of ten clams. Many still do, to this day. It is by no means 'a new one'.

If you're talking about cash transactions though, then I suppose the operative word is "SPEND"; i.e. they are suggesting that you have to spend something, if you want to walk out with something. They are suggesting that it would be silly if you were allowed to walk in with a huge box of voucher print-outs, and methodically clear their shelves of every Cadbury product priced at 99 cents, without actually SPENDING anything.

Of course I could be wrong, but I suspect that is along the lines of their thinking.

        •

@GnarlyKnuckles: this is coles we are talking about. from my experiences coles have made it a requirement to spend a minimum sum before being able to use a particular payment method, or to even leave the store.

        • +1 vote

@t25: Well Woolies certainly isn't like that. I've actually paid nothing and received cash change for combining a voucher and a 2 for $x deal at self checkout.

        •

@cooni: after reading what I posted. It should say, "have not made it a requirement…"

Oh yes, I remember those lemonade drinks from a few years ago…. Free drinks plus change.
