    Follow up, I just tried to purchase (have never done anything like this before) and it wouldn't let me. Gets an error at the final checkout phase.

  I believe this is a targeted promotion. I got a offered $10 credit if I purchased a $50 voucher, the promo banner with the special code appeared as I was viewing my cart.
  Yes you can use both the credit and the gift card in the same transaction.
