  • That is a freaking good deal

  • I think Dell is a bit sneaky on this deal - they mark up the price on the base system to give you a greater discount.
If you go to the normal Dell page and build the exact same system (choose the 1720 already with $200 off) with 8% EPP discount code you'll get the final price of around $2700 There might be other discount code you can apply to make it cheaper but i couldn't find any.

Compare to the deal listed above for $2400, the real saving is 300/2700 = 11%

  • Just be aware that this 1720 is the OLD model.

Be sure to do side-by-side comparison of pricing and specs with the new (much improved) 1730.

Even with the 40% discount I reckon a similalry priced 1730 has higher specs, esp for gaming, which is really the reason you buy a 17" notebook anyway right… ? :)

    • hi

I think it is the current model. The 1730 would be the XPS M1730 model you are talking about right?
      cheers

  • Good point on the sneakiness of Dell Ash - I hadnt noticed that but I agree the deal is not as good as it first looks - however it's still not bad.

Also bear in mind if you bundle a 27" monitor with it (which I did) you are getting 40% of the already discounted price of the monitor - so thats not a bad effort.

  • I hope you have upgraded the secondary hard drive to 320GB as it is cheaper than 250GB :p.

edit: oops nevermind "The 2nd hard drive that you’ve chosen must be at the same capacity and RPM with the primary hard drive. Please ensure that the correct selection has been made."

  • I did take the 320gb because for about $45 net (less 40%) I thought it was worth it to get an extra 140gb.

BTW the 1720 is still the current model Inspiron in the USA - the 1721 is out, but thats got an AMD chip only and thats not something I would be buying given current performance of AMD mobile chips vs Intel

  • Bugger,

Seems its only valid for a high end 1720.

Went to buy a Dell today but extended warranty offer was removed, time to haggle a phone rep!

  • At the moment there is a deal with the colour laser where you get a free gps unit… do you think that'd apply with the 50% discount code? because if it does that's a pretty good deal.

  • Elmo

The GPS comes with the printer as I understand it - so you get the printer + GPS for $850
