Only thing I can see in the fine print at the moment is "Fares are not available on all flights or days. Limited availability over public holiday weekends and school holidays. Melbourne (Tullamarine) - Hobart: 04 Aug - 02 Sep 2015. Only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays."

      • totally missed that small print underneath… mehhh too far ahead to book now for me i think

      • "Only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays."

Is a total killer for most people

This would be considered bait advertising by Jetstar.

      I don't care what Jetstar considers…. :)

However what part do YOU think is baiting?

Or must they make very fllght on every route $29 on every day?

BTW your limited info post could be considered baiting back.. LOL

      • Personally I think they should have an allocation of a $29 fare for everyday. Its not like you go to TA Tuesdays at the movies and they go, no that movie is $19.

If you think about what you said.

If they had $29 seats for sale everyday, then when do they stop. When these are sold out. Which they would be, and then people would complain that they are sold out. Complain it's bait advertising.

And if they made every seat $29 if they could make any profit, then the plane would be full.

Airlines match seats with supply and demand. Flights on slow demand days are sold cheaper. In this case for Hobart they are Tues and Wed, so the pensioners fly those days. leaving more seats on other days for those who want to fly then.

And $29 to Perth? Is that what you and gccmelb are saying.

My point to them, was about bait advertising and what they consider is bait advertising vs an airline shifting unsold seats on less popular days.

        • @RockyRaccoon:

I wouldn't agree its bait advertising if they have an allocation on every flight during the sales period prescribed. I'm aware how they all operate I use to be a travel agent (heinous job). Regardless, I wouldn't fly Jetstar, they are an overpriced tiger. Too many problems with them. They denied me boarding due to a damaged passport (2 damaged pages at the back) in October, flew Virgin the next day, they uplifted me. Flew back with Jetstar. Got $1100 compensation from JQ for all the mucking around.

As an ex travel agent maybe you would know how we would tell.

Just because I cant see a cheap flight for say $29 on a particular day because the flight might only have 5 seats left, it was a popular flight prior to the sale, doesn't mean they cant advertise some $29 fares on other days. If they couldn't then how would we find them.

They do advise that the fares are NOT available on every flight on every day. That's clear. If we don't like it then we fly Virgin etc.

As for bad experiences we all get them on every airline every now and again. At least you got compensation where others don't get that.

I and 20 others got bumped from a virgin flight from Lax to Sydney including a staff member with a baby. She got seat but the baby couldn't. And the decision was made by the pilot to take freight instead of passengers (we were all either staff or friends of staff.

Now that' the risk we took, but like your JQ experience it wasn't handled very well. Other times both airlines and others have gone out of their way to help and accommodate.

You're better off doing your own research (i.e. finding a Tiger flight +/- an hour of Jetstars) and getting them to price beat.

  • I hate that it lets me fly from Newcastle to Japan in a single booking but not to Townsville.
