Fitbit Charge HR $169.15 @ Dick Smith Online or Instore

840

Dicksmith have 15 % off on many fitness products. I have been watching prices for the Fitbit Charge HR for a while and this seems to be the best price I have come across so far.

    • Ahh now I don't know whether to buy or not. I had heard that they recalled the 'Force' due to this issue. Didn't know it was also an issue with the Force

    • I doubt this is very common, they recalled the Force & came out much later with a revised series starting with the Charge. They then publicly explained in detail all the changes they'd made to make it far less common.

When you have very large no's of users (with Fitbit you most certainly do), you're bound to get a small % that'll still have "issues" & look like a large no. all up.

Most (if not all) wearables provoke allergic reactions (they all have the same allergenic composition), FAR smaller user-bases though, so media coverage isn't as high-profile/hyped.

will the 14% discount at 4:14pm apply on top of it?

  • +6

Try to use this 14% off code this afternoon - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182914

    • +3

Knowing DSE, they will probably increase the price before the discount.

      • +3

Would be $145 if it works. I think i'd be happy to buy at that price so will watch it

        • Boom-tish!

        • +2

          i got one @145.xx

      • Yes, the possibility of that exists because if you click on the home page the price is still $199.

  • I've been waiting for it to get to this price! Was super sad that I missed their induction sale. Thanks for the deal!

  • Small or large band, which one do most people get? I haven't had a chance to try these on, but I have a fairly normal wrist size I think, not noticeably small or large.

Will definitely wait and see if it stacks with 14% off.

    • I have a normal wrist size (I think) and I'm on the third largest notch. I think small is for VERY petite people and kids.

      • Ah, good point. I was thinking small would be the way to go for most people, but maybe a more accurate way is to think of them as child and adult size. Thanks.

        • +3

Bottom of this page there is a size guide.

          https://www.fitbit.com/au/chargehr

          Small is 5.5" to 6.5"
          Large is 6.3" to 7.6"

        • @bleachy_dude:
Just measured wrists and neither me nor my wife could fit the small one. Definitely kids only.

        • I'm a size 12 woman and bought a small today - it is comfortable on me on the 4th last notch. Glad I didn't go with the large.

Just price matched at office works without drama… $160.69

  • -4

    isn't it normally 149.95 anyway

    https://store-au.fitbit.com/index

    • +4

Charge and charge HR are different

  • -3

Can get this for $140 through work, but it's good price otherwise!

  • Is this comfortable to wear? Trying to decide between this and the charge

  • No deal on the plum / small one it seems - anyone know of a bargain on that type ? Cheers

    • +1

I wanted the plum one too. It's not even available on the Fitbit site yet though. I wonder if it would be possible to exchange it when the plum one comes in. Not sure how many days you have to exchange or if the plum one would be equivalent to the black one though.

      • Thanks. Had not checked that. Perhaps they are just too new. Also on back order with Dick. It would be a bit of a risk with the exchange though.

      That's target.com and not target.com.au, hence that's a USD price

      • Yeh it's the US site. My bad.

    • -3

That's incredible price! I might cancel my Dick Smith order and buy from Target then! PS I can confirm the pricing is for Australian Target.com.au site.

      • +2

it's the u.s site, the charge hr isnt even on target.com.au

        • -3

Oops! My bad. I was mobilewebsite earlier and got it mixed up.

  • Typical. Just bought the Garmin Vivofit for $96 at JB. DSE have it for $92.65. :P

Anyhoo, I was tossing up between the Charge and the Vivofit. Only thing that swayed me towards the Vivofit (beside the price and I don't need HR) was that I had read a few instances of the Charge screen cracking and getting scratched easily.

Other than that the Charge is, by all accounts, one of the best fitness trackers.

Also, the Garmin Vivofit 2 is out next month if anybody is not a hurry. An alarm and different clasp are the biggest changes between the original and number 2. I needed one ASAP which is why I bought the Vivofit.

  • Vivosmarts are also on special for $152.15
    http://search.dicksmith.com.au/search#w=Vivosmart

    • SHOWLOVE successful, also with click and collect. $130 for a vivosmart is excellent value.

Thought long and hard between this and Charge HR. In the end decided the ANT+ functionality was the winner.

    • I grabbed a Vivofit for the wife - with code it only came to $79.68.

      Yay for everyone :)

      • I purchased a Charge HR and Vivosmart, whichever the wife doesn't like (maybe both) gets returned.

  • +4

Confirmed stackable with 14% off. Just completed checkout and payment (1613hrs AEST).

  • +1

Just tried the SHOWLOVE coupon and worked fine. Good luck for the next 14 mins.

  • +4

Can confirm SHOWLOVE works - just got it for $145.47

    • +1

Same here. Although it was pretty slow to get the order confirmed, as expected.

    • Got the "Ready To Collect" SMS and email at 4.31, but it is a 28 minute drive away and they close at 5!!! Just missed the chance to pick up today, shoot!

  • SHOWLOVE just worked for me. Paid $145.47

  • Thanks, grabbed the ChargeHR. :)

  • Thanks, got the scale.

  • +2

Thanks, got through eventually. Terrible validation system with matching suburb and postcode error on checkout - worked when I bypassed with PayPal.

  • Jesus almost didn't make it, one of those deals where you buy first regret later.. lol

  • $151.44 delivered.

    Thanks OP

  • Almost didn't make it, after getting back to DSE website from paypal it wanted me to review address and confirm order, but it wouldn't let me go through. Something with matching suburb with postcode, which didn't make sense as they were correct. I even tried the same postcode and suburb as the store I'm picking it up from is, but it still wouldn't work. Eventually I gave up and started over (this time not going through paypal) and it worked much better as I now didn't end up on that address confirmation page.

Anyway, bought for $145, good price.

  • Pre-ordered the Charge HR in PLUM for my missus and got the SHOWLOVE discount too. However I was unable to get the SURGE at 14% discount due to a cheat. It says no stock but as soon as the promo period ends, its back in stock. Whatever, I'm still happy. At least I got her a Valentine's gift.

    • Yeh I noticed that, was out of stock delivered ( I think it was in stock in the first few minutes) then online deliver and all stores said out of stock. As soon as promo ended it said in stock for delivery. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened to people on ozbargain. Ah well, decided to get the charge HR, might be better of. I guess the key difference between the two is the GPS, and apparently the GPS isn't that great: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/01/fitbit-surge-depth-review…

None the less, each to their own

      • Yes you're right. The GPS ain't great but I was hoping on future software product considering it being so new (with cycling mode at least). I can't seem to find a proper multi-sport watch with everything (HR, notifications, activity tracking+sleep, swim, cycling) and still look great for day to day wear. The Fenix 2 or 3 are great but require HR chest strap. I know the optical ones aren't that accurate but still…

The only reason I want the Surge is Fitbit's great activity tracking.

  • Confirmation order for pick up received half an hour ago which was quick.. but was in the toilet and now the shops are closed. #firstworldproblems

  • Your friggen kidding me, I missed out :(

  • Anyone know of any other discount codes?

  • +1

Got mine just in time and got a pickup email within 10mins, went to store and am setting it up now. :)

  • thought about it, but can't justify it for the price. Will wait till surge gets to this price

    • lol you'll be dead before then

  • Can u get the 5% back after buying one? I bought one this morning from Office works for $194. :(

    • +1

wife bought one last night for 194. saw this deal today and told her to take it back, then got it for 145 from dick smith..just make up an excuse, say its not comfortable and you have changed your mind.

you could then do a price match against dick smith and get it for 160 from officeworks

      • I'll go back tomorrow and say it doesn't fit or something. If it dropped by 5-10 dollars then I wouldn't mind but $194>$160 is a fair bit!

  • +1

Actually bought one at Move in Macquarie Centre for $154 before I saw this. Sticker price was $169 but at the counter the price changed. Just thought I'd list an alternative.

  • +2

Can someone who has got this for $145 from Dick Smith , post a receipt here please.

    • +1

Yeah pls post the receipt here so we can price beat at office works with it.

      • Cam anyone post the receipt

    • http://imgur.com/jl8K7yG Here you go. And yes, I was scammed into the extended warranty. It was a weak moment…

      • I called online and they can only offer the $160 price. The service representative I spoke to said that "Officeworks doesn't price match based on receipts."
Also the Elizabeth Street store (Melbourne) doesn't have any stock.

  • I purchased at exactly 4:14pm — had it already in my cart ready to go.. got it for $145!! Did click and collect just waiting for confirmation to pickup from store.

  • Can i ask why people want this thing? I run every weekday morning and have lost a lot of weight and feel heaps better for it, yet i do not wear one of these.
    i just run.

    • +1

family history of heart issues. Want to keep an eye on heart rate so i don't push it too hard when i'm at the gym

      • +1

If this is a serious concern for you I would not recommend the fitbit for heart rate tracking. DC Rainmaker has posted a review of the fitbit surge which uses the same heart rate technology and shows that it cannot properly track heart rate while exercising.

    • +1

The idea is to gather data on what activities they're doing. The goal might be to lose weight or just be more active, but with the data they can see how active or inactive they are and try to improve in weak areas. It can also help motivate people by setting targets and there is also a social element where you can compete with friends.

It's not a magic device that will get people running and losing weight, but it might encourage them to become more active over time.

My reason for getting one: I wanted the Jawbone Up 3, but there hasn't been any news on when it can be expected, so I'm getting this as a stop gap solution for sleep and heart rate tracking. My fitbit one sleep band keeps falling off and I know the heart rate tracking is useless for exercise so I'll still be using my Mio Alpha for that. My ideal setup would be the fitbit one for steps/elevation, jawbone up3 for sleep and resting heart rate and the mio only for the gym.

      Marketing.

They actually have a fairly dubious record as far as accuracy although naturally after buying one people are happy to follow the dubious readings they recieve.

It should be understood that I am no less susceptible to marketing when it comes to other devices of course but I just haven't bought into the hype around these types of devices so I notice the cautionary tales. Such is life …:p

  • Why are they taking so long to release the coloured ones?

TL;DR: your smartphone is just as effective at counting steps. Which isn't that accurate but at least you aren't buying another device.

  • On my way to Myer to use up some old vouchers looking at the fitbit hr any idea what I can use to price match please

  • Will it still be on sale tomorrow?

  • +1

I also priced matched at OW with no problems. I bought 2.

You have till tomorrow for price matching as the DSE sale for the charge HR is till tomorrow.

    $160.69

  • Just got a Small Black at Officeworks 15 mins ago - $168.15 after lowest price guarantee. It was the last one in the store hidden behind the Flexs.
