Dick Smith the person, or Dick Smith the store?

    • +4

I hate it with Dick pulls out at the last second, gets messy, lets hope he doesn't

      • +5

Aren't you being a bit hard on Dick ?

    • 'The Mini Series' (as previewed on Micallef's Mad as Hell)

  • 14 mins = =

  • +12

    starting at 4:14pm

If they were really smart they should have started it at 2:14pm ie.14:14

    • that could also be Feb 14 .. if we used the US date formatting.

      • even better if they did it last year '14

  • +18

Seriously who the hell are they selling to 14 minutes mid afternoon on bloody saturday with measly 14% off.

I'm inclined to neg this deal just on how stupid it sounds.

    Some lonely singleton

Or someone who'd sacrifice Valentine's day date for a bargain. (i.e. me)

  • +6

Bet you the internet traffic will grind the website to a halt and nobody can use it for the next 14min. Should be 14 hours

    • This!

You know their site will fall over within seconds of this deal going live.

Measly 14% or not. (Personally I don't think 14% is that measly but others seem to expect more!)

  • That's not too bad if there's not more exclusions than that. I've been keeping my eye on a specific TV (Samsung 60 inch). With the discount, it's $200 less than everywhere else. Not cheap enough for bargain status with all the other recent 60 inch TV deals from other brands, but since I wanted this specific one and rather sooner than later, I might go for it. Will be interesting to see if the price change tomorrow though (checked just now and still same price as per normal).

Also been considering a fitbit charge hr. Being new, it seem everyone is selling it for the $199 rrp, so even if $172 isn't a great discount, it's the cheapest I've seen.

Anyway, we'll see if additional exclusions are added and how much prices change. There probably won't be any huge bargains, but a storewide discount is always nice for getting decent prices on certain items.

Edit: although they could have done it for 14 hours instead, 14 minutes is a bit silly.

I am going to risk the wrath of the OzB community and neg this deal for being utterly ridiculous…even for Dick Smith standards.

    • I might agree with you if DS were flogging this here themselves…..

  • At least throw in free shipping…

DSE shows its love the usual way - mean AND conditional.
14 mins sale. may as well make it 14 seconds. 14 seconds = 14th of the second (14/02).
    No love from me.

  • No way will they be able to stick to these times. Often their codes starting at 5pm aren't actve until ~5:30pm.

It's only good if that exclusion list doesn't get any bigger.

  • At least games are not excluded - …

    • Perhaps, but most likely still more expensive

Only great PS4 deal I can see is pre-ordering The Order 1886, which would be around $51.56 (exclude delivery) after discount.

    promo code should be DICKLOVE

      definitely better than SHOWDICK

Despite stiff competition, I think DSE deserve the award for the most consistent negative customer sentiment generated through promotional offers. They should sack whoever is making these decisions, or alternately put them up as LNP candidates in the next Federal election.

    • Despite stiff

      i thought Dick was soft

      • Complaining about DSE is like choosing a Taco. Both hard and soft are available, but only hard are really tacos.

  • Can we put the item into basket now and checkout at 4:14pm?

    • DSE online doesn't work at the best of times. I'd order within the timeframe and try to get the discount later.

  • +1

Its probably limited to the first 14 people too

  • +2

14 hours would have made more cents

  • 14 mins of love from DSE on 14 Feb

He's been over exerting himself with too many sales so he can only last this long :)

      • LOL

  • Ok I could be wrong but I could swear the Canon 70D was cheaper when I looked this morning. I didn't keep track because it was still more than I was willing to pay and I've spent enough on cameras lately. It's now showing at $1,549. If they are putting up prices, whether it's legal or not, that makes it a complete waste of time looking.

  • Code is working.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

  • yep, confirmed, went through 2 mins early and no issues

  • Instant slowness at 4.14pm. I put in an order. It stuffed up after the submit order button. Saying "undefined" as error message then something about postcode. Did not go through to a confirmation page.

However I've gotten an email saying order submitted but payment being verified (paid by CC). Do you think this is a successful order?

    • I had trouble checking out with paypal for the first couple of tries, It would just be stuck after confirming payment.

I made sure to check my transactions to confirm whether the payment went through. After it went through, got the email confirmation so I'd think so.

  • bought LG G2 for $386, Thanks.

  • +1

Yep confirmed I just bought the Samsung UA60H6400 for $1375 down from $1599.

    Cheapest option I could find.

  • +2

Pathetic. I keep getting this error message at checkout: "Please select a matching suburb/city and postcode."

    • Same!! i thought I was the only one. It was definitely matching. When I couldn't proceed, I tried going back and then what do you know - out of stock. Good work DSE.

      • I got the same error message. I've contacted Dick about it. I hope Dick stands up and delivers.

    • +1

Just went through but code expired. Super dodgy. See you never Dick Smith.

    • Same for me - especially useless when there is only one suburb in my postcode!
By the time I was through, 14 mins had past

And they send me the email advertising the sale at 4:23! What's the point Dick-heads? (managers at Dick Smith)

Had the Samsung UA55H7000 Tv placed in shopping cart and just clicked on the redeem code as soon as it hit 3:14, QLD time. I was going to get this through my insurance claim via Jb hifi which had it for $1598. Decided to get the cash instead and shop for my own price so with this deal I am $120 better off with click and collect. Enough for decent valentines dinner the wife for tonight.

    • +1

Excellent choice. I purchased that tv too

  • again got the the order confirmation page and again dick was screwing with me this time it kept telling me my suburb and postcode didn't match .. which is odd as it looked right and pre-filled from my last order .. 3 tries later and it goes to my cart saying nothing is in it … I look at my account order history and it shows as processing .. no emails though.

    • Exact same! postcode screwed, tried both chrome and IE no luck. Now using paypal payment but still stuck at the last step. What the hell is this?

  • I've finally got through in the last minute by ignoring that 'mismatch' popup and click the button when it's still clickable (you'll have roughly 2 seconds). Hopefully they'll honor my LG UHD TV order as it's what they've advertised and not price error at all.

  • Just saved an additional $23.68 with this code for the already discounted Fitbit Charge HR, I ain't even mad.

  • Purchased a chromecast for $42.14 as I missed out on the other deals.

    Website worked fine for me.

  • +2

Waste of time for me. Kept getting the postcode error. Order finally went through after the promo had ended and reverted to the original price. I think you have to pick the postcode from a drop down box (instead of manually entering it) but this box refused to load.

    • The exact same thing happened to me, so doggy. And then I checked how to cancel the order, their policy shows normally you cannot cancel an order which has been submitted:

Generally you cannot add or delete items to an order once it has been submitted.
You should however view your order status. If the order status is ‘Order being processed’ you can contact the Customer Service Centre on 1300 366 644 and they confirm whether there is still time to modify or cancel the order.
If you want to cancel your order but it has already been processed, you may still be able to return the product.

So I called their hotline, they are not working in the weekends. I have to email them at [email protected]. No reply yet, hope I won't end up by returning the item and paying for the postage.

      • Pathetic. Same problem here.

  • I think the suburb and postcode mismatch problem related to Chrome, I got this problem as well.
    Then switch to FireFox.
Ordered the Samsung TV and Dicksmith posted the transaction to my credit card straight away, I check my online credit card statement found that entry.

  • Ugh I had the postcode issue too.. but somehow an order went through even though the page never came up.. I kept trying and then a second order ended up going through at full price! They better refund this!

    • Has anyone's order during the sale actually been processed yet? I got a message saying I could pick up the order I paid full price for, but the one with the discount applied still says 'processing'.

  • chrome lol

  • Anyone knows if you can decide which day of delivery of the order?

    • Depend what type of delivery, think they sent via Startrak ie AustraliaPost. If you are not home, it can be pickup in Post Office.

      • Oh…I bought a TV.
What is the best way to know when (the time) the courier will arrive at my door steps?

Let say if they provide the tracking #, how do I know they are on their way to my house?

        • Don't know about DSE. Others would normally give you a call and tell you what date, then you are there 9-5. The better ones would tell you am or pm.

  • purchased the uniden uh720sx twin pack cb radios for $171, bargain! Thanks op

    • went to pickup, person gave me a pack that only had 1, we went to look for the actual product i bought and he scanned to double check. no apologies. lol, oh well.

      • +1

Similar thing happened to me. bought a kasser media player from DSE. Picked up at shop and staff quickly placed in the bag. Lucky I have a habit to check as I was walking out, the box was opened and inside was obviously used. I asked politely for another one, and staff said checked stock and there were a few. I do believe they know and try to get rid of the returned stock and sell me an old as new.

  • +1

    Got 1886 for $56 delivered…thanks op

  • 50% off everything's seems fair enough.

  • +1

Thanks for the sale Dick! The TV and Chromecast I bought on Saturday morning at JB Hi-Fi were also on sale at DSE. I took a screengrab of my cart with discount applied and my local JB Hi-Fi price matched it. I got the Samsung 48" UA48H5000 for $600 and a Google Chromecast for $40.
