  • 100W RMS

    Yeah dont expect much

    • Yes & no… my 6W per channel Tripath Amp is plenty powerful enough to fill a room with high quality audio at around 90db! Wattage is only one of the factors but you're right, these wont shake the earth :)

    • How did you work out it is 100W RMS?

      RMS wattage 15
Dolby / DTS: with Dolby Digital + DTS

Although that could be incorrect, but there is little information available.

These specs put output as 450W!

Official site official documentation. Yes it's in French but it's easy enough to find RMS :) (edit English on pages 3-4!)

        • Well it is a French company.

As I said, that other reference to 15W RMS may be incorrect - turns out it was per main channel. 105W RMS total.
          Surprised me!

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Yep, average car stereo puts out like 160w RMS, just off after market deck, so I can imagine this sounding like poo!

          @Spackbace:
But in a car you need extra volume with road noise, etc. And a reasonable head unit with speakers will usually cost how many times this deal?

And how much for a 5.1 DVD system with speakers & much higher output?

Target caters to users who want a good price, not best specs. I don't think many here will confuse it with a high spec product, with Target in the title!

I was surprised it has as much as 105W RMS! My old sound system is less powerful, but then it's output is in 2 channels, no sub-woofer ;-)

In a fairly small, quiet room, it should be adequate for many, given the budget price.

It's an older design, with connections for European scart, S-video, & RCA AV input from the days of VCRs!

That says who it's aimed at - people happy to use it with their older equipment. There is a segment of the market that has no great interest in latest technology, just what fits their existing system. But they would be rare here.

Not a great unit, but good value for some.

@brucefromaustralia: Agreed. I have an old Technically system that cost $2500 back in 1990. It's 200w RMS, and there's never been a point in my life where I wanted anything louder, even when I have had parties with 70 people.

For a system to watch TV to, let alone one that costs 50 bucks, not sure why people would complain. You don't tend to watch TV from outside the room. Goes double if you lived in a unit. The RMS talk reminds me of the camera megapixel talk. I have 4Mpixel cameras that take great shots, and print well.

  • How much were they originally?

  • I would buy one of these just to mute the awful Ch.9 cricket commentary via the centre speaker!

EDIT: This can't be done as AUX IN is only L+R RCA. Still going to have to get a proper Pro Logic system :P

    • I was wondering how you would do that with a DVD player.

These ancient designs with Scart & S-video connectors are usually mainly for output. The input was usually designed for a VCR! I've got a few older European units lying around here - free from freecycle, but those even lack HDMI & upscaling - pure analogue.

      Connections:
      USB
      SCART ( 21 PIN SCART ) - rear
      1 x SPDIF output ( RCA phono ) - rear
      HDMI output ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) - rear
      1 x component video output ( RCA phono x 3 ) - rear
      1 x S-Video output - rear
      1 x composite video/audio input
      1 x composite video/audio output

  • I just modded the Target $29 iCoustic Bluetooth iPhone Tower Dock Floorstanding Speaker - by wiring external speakers. Crap before. Now quite good.

Maybe I'll take a look at this deal. But - I don't use DVDs anymore.

  • Manual download

But, failed to open for me.

  • Anyone got theirs yet? any good?
