i thought the bag was free for students ;)

      • same here….

        • You wish. That travel bag is $389.99 summit price. Very pricey for a bag. How it could be worth $649.98 at full price is beyond me.

        • @hollykryten:
It's not worth six fiddy, they make some pretty quality gear but virtually none of it represents any kind of value at RRP, same with Macpac and Mountain designs, great gear but if it's not on sale it's probably not worth it.

On that note Mountain Designs is doing up to 60% off, no loyalty thing.sale

        • @hollykryten:

It had want to pack itself at that price

Considering it was 60% of kathmandu gear 2 weeks ago, this is not a good deal. The 60% off crap happens every 3 months with this store and their dodgy price practices.

    • Kathmandu has lots of interesting stuff but I usually never buy unless it's at least 60% off.

Their 60% off RRP equals about what you'd expect to pay for the same quality elsewhere.

The high low pricing strategy is used by Kathmandu to create the perception their products are valuable and then to price in a discount periodically. It isn't working as well in this current economic environment and they may have to go down the route of pricing more reasonably in the first place

    • I hope so. There's a jacket I really like… but it's $700.

      lollll

    • The price strategy works well enough that Anaconda copied it.
A shame they hadn't patented the method - that would make for interesting reading :-)

So, are there any actual bargains? Nothing stands out to me.

  • As a former regular customer of this business I now find Kathmandu "regular prices" to be little more than a joke. Even with 40% off on many items you can do far better elsewhere on similar products. If you can't you're not trying hard enough. This is a clayton's deal.
