Summer Cashback Promotion from HP
Terms and Conditions
Valid from 1st December 2014 to 28th February 2015.
Summer is the season of giving, so HP is giving you cash back when you purchase from a range of HP’s latest notebook PCs.

Among the eligible resellers, (Harvey Norman, Joyce Mayne, Domayne, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, The Good Guys and Officeworks retail stores and HP Online Store in Australia), only TGG sold it for $444, all the other resellers, except JB HiFi and OfficeWork, had the tablet at $499. JB HiFi and OfficeWork didn't have Pavilion X2 on their webpage so I couldn't check, even though I am certain that JB HiFi sells them. So it might be cheaper there. I will update accordingly, if JB HiFi or OfficeWork sells them at cheaper price.

TGG has HP Pavilion x2 10-J006TU as $444.00. After $50 cashback, the final price comes down to $394.
Shipping was $5.00, however, free pick up is available.

I credit aacheney for the information about HP Cashback, from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/178729.

Specs and information about the tablet were taken from Bing Lee and TGG.

A 10" windows laptop that's low res and lacks storage, I'm kind of lost on the appeal here. I mean, good price for this particular product, but when 64gb, high res Chinese win8 tablets are readily available around $200, you're not getting much for your money here.

True, Chinese tablets are better on the paper, but are they actually better in terms of user experience? You'd have to wait for a month to receive it, then there is chance of DOA. I looked into the Chinese tablet options but those were the major problems I had with them.

Pavilion X2 has a decent battery life, 11 hours is fairly long. Also, this thing has microSD support. It has dual speaker as well, many Chinese tablets have bad speakers. One of the biggest complaints I've seen with Chinese tablets from forums is that touch seems to not work sometimes or it's not as smooth as other tablets. I didn't experience anything like that at JB hi-fi. Pavilion X2 has active pen support. Also, if something happens, you can always send it back to TGG or get it serviced.

In short, I think you pretty much pay for the relatively hassle free experience as well as other things that simply are not on the paper like build quality etc. In terms of 10 inch Windows Tablet that is officially released in Australia, I think this thing is in between a budget option and more expensive options.

To be honest, Chinese tablets are really attractive option too, but I simply cannot compare it to tablets that are officially released in Australia. I tried to get one thinking, if it breaks, it breaks, but they were slightly too expensive for me to go in with that mind set.

    • can you recommend some 10" chinese tablets for $200? im quite interested

Z3745D ?? That won't even handle youtube without dropping frames, unless you use internet explorer, but even then it might stutter.
The single thread performance and graphical performance just isn't there for these atom processors. I can't even draw a blue selection box on a 1080p screen without dropping frames on a similar 2014 atom cpu..

    • Are you sure? I feel like mine handles itself fine, it's definitely not fast by any means but I haven't noticed lag on youtube clips and it can even handle light gaming.
But it isn't snappy like my desktop by all means…

If you stick with IE you'll get the intended performance, since Microsoft might have optimised it to run better on Atom processors.

If you want to use Firefox, try out the Atom -optimised fork of FF called Pale Moon (it also comes in a regular version as well, in both 32 and 64 bit variants)

  • I don't know the technical merits of these units, but Centrecom have something similar for $300

    • Well, first of all, it's 1GB RAM like most budget Windows tablet. If you want something like that, you can get similar on from Aldi cheaper. Credits to plapic from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182079.

Secondly, you pretty much pay for better build quality and other things like better screen quality (not talking about resolution but just quality of the screen), better speakers, better battery life etc.
