    pay $895 - doesn't sound like a good deal to me :)

It is if you fly in fly out every week or fly multiple times a week.
Great for business men and women

      • +10

If you fly in and out every week then why would you need it? I'm sure it won't take long to reach gold or plat.

        • It takes a surprisingly long time to get to Gold (eligible for lounge) on short haul domestic in economy as most flights are 10 status credits and you need 850 credits so 85 flights or almost a year if flying return every week.
This gives you lounge access immediately and it simply goes on hold as soon as you get Gold status.

Should this fee be put in the title?

  • Might be an additional incentive for all those who still got their ANZ black card from their 50k QFF deal. No joining fee.

    • +2

Huh? Any reference to ANZ Black Card no joining fee?
I know they give you 2 qantas passes for free e.g. 2 entries, but you don't actually get qantas club.

I think dynamike was talking about normally paying only $400 per year if you are an ANZ Black cardholder:

Offers are only available to ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cardholders who are Australian residents and who purchase Qantas Club membership using their ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card. Offers are non-transferable and are not available in conjunction with any other offers or discounts. No discounts are available in respect of fees already paid. $455 saving in the first year is based upon a joining fee waiver and a discount to the standard one-year individual membership rate. The joining fee waiver is for a new one year individual Qantas Club memberships purchased using an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card by contacting the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre on 13 11 31.

Add the price into the title.
    Not a good deal.

  • Wow $895 a year. makes my $2000 Life membership of 15 years ago look good.

    • +20

Was that when Ozbargain was delivered via fax?

    • me too…..why fly Qantas, when you can goto the Qantas pub before your cheap Jetstar flight.

      • You don't accrue QFF points or status credits with Jetstar (unless you pay a surcharge).
You don't pay for check-in baggage with Qantas.
You don't pay for a meal with Qantas.

        • …and you don't pay for meals or drinks at the Qantas pub (which is my point). Stock up before hand & I take it onboard if I can't last 1-2hrs without food or drink.

oh & the company won't fork out for Qantas flights, so the $2k lifetime QC investment I made about 12yrs ago has paid off rather handsomely :-)

    • Includes joining fee of $385. It's $510/year.

As mentioned, there are legitimate corporate programs you can join to reduce that down significantly.

If you're flying weekly, as also mentioned, chances are you don't need it.

If you only fly Jetstar, keep in mind that the Qantas Clubs are open from first to last Qantas flights only. If your Jetstar flight happens to be within that window, of course you can use it. There are still quite a few Jetstar flights that operate outside these hours though, especially international.

CMIIW - you can purchase Qantas Club membership from Australia Frequent Flyer Community for a slightly cheaper price. I think it's around $ 600 as they have a corporate rate or something like that.

  • +2

Can get discounted Qantas Club membership via Australian Frequent Flyers community by purchasing Gold Membership on their website at $50, plus other discounts.

    • Could a friend refer you and you can sign up with the AFF deal and get the 50,000 points?

  • +1

ANZ black card holders can get it for $450 approx.

    • Does this deal work with the ANZ Black deal though? That's the question.

    • How did you get $450?
      $895 - 385 = $510
      ???

  • We get it through work for $240 per year

  • At the highest top up rate offered by Qantas ($557.50 for 20,000pts) the $895 fee would net you ~32,107pts. Note this offer only guarantees 40,000pts so mathematically it is only marginally better than a direct cash-to-points swap.

If people want free/cheap points then credit card bonuses are by far the most cost effective way. This deal would only be valuable for people who are not Gold Status yet but are anticipating alot of flights in the near future that would net them Gold Status in about a years time.

Remember, $895 will buy about 45 overpriced airport meals (assuming $20 each meal) which is the same or better quality than Qantas lounge food.

    • $20 meal at most airports would still be inedible

  • Um, so what is Qantas club? Is it just access to their lounge?

      • -2

Ok but I didn't want to click the link. If it's lounge access then you can usually buy your own lounge for under $895. Not the same thing, I know, but it helps to keep it in perspective.

        • +2

You also get free food, booze and other amenities (free magazines, news paper, internet), Plus ur own lounge aint at the airport.. LOL

Edit: if u fly 20 times a year than u could easily spend 20$ food and coffee and 10$ on amenities each time.. that $600+ and also have to sit around with the rif raf. Qantas club could then be beneficial for those ppl. Obviously if your bum that flies to Bali once a year its not gona suit you or your budget.

    • You also get increased baggage allowance

Unless you are already Silver or above, then you get the same or more

      http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/checked-baggage/glo…

e.g. 3 pieces of baggage vs 2 for economy (23kgs each) Nice for all those clothes you might have bought.

  • +2

Lol all these riff RAF comments. Its no quieter in the Qantas club than the normal terminal. QC membership went right down the toilet when they dropped priority baggage and check in 4 years ago

  • Just got off the phone with Qantas. You can not combine this deal with the ANZ offer because this is for an individual membership. For ANZ Black cardholders you can get a corporate membership for $420 total.
40000 QFF is worth about a $250 gift card. Effectively making this deal about $650
Also if you are an ANZ Black cardholder, sell your 2 complimentary visits for about $100 effectively making your corporate membership just over $300 :)

    • Sorry, what do you mean by "Effectively making this deal about $650"?
Where did you get $650 from please?

      • Well if you just wanted the Qantas club membership get this deal and buy a 250 gift card with the free points the give you. 895-250=$645.
However if you are an ANZ black member you are much better off to get the Qantas club membership using your credit card.

        • I see thanks for your explanation.
